The Innkeeper
Chapter 2227: Humiliation
Lex had spent a lot of time learning and reading over the years. As it happened, one of the longest running novels he’d read was called Ultimate King Emperor: All the Gods call me Daddy. Now, the book wasn’t exactly peak literature, however Lex had to admit that it was quite educational in some ways.
He wasn’t talking about the main character’s army of harem monster girls from all races which he used to conquer the universe. No, the thing Lex had learned from that novel was the art of face slapping.
The Havi put down the paper and looked at the devil. Nothing about him had changed. His posture was the same, lazy posture he had adopted from the beginning, and his expressions were casual as well. Yet the air in the room had become still! There was a hint of tension in the air, which was highly unusual because the Havi did not fear the devil at all.
"You know, I myself have a bit of talent when it comes to guessing people’s True Names as well," the devil said as he started to stand up, looking the bird in the eyes. "Would you like me to guess yours?"
The Havi felt amused. Did this devil really think it could intimidate her?
"Fine, I’m curious. Can you really guess my True Name?" she asked.
Lex looked at the Havi. In truth, he did not even know her casual name let alone her True Name, but that hardly mattered anymore. He had conversed with her in good faith, but she had attempted to take advantage of him, and that was not acceptable.
"Let me see," said Lex as he pulled out a thin, white piece of paper of his own. "It says here that your old True Name doesn’t matter, because after today you’re going to have a new one."
Lex threw the paper towards the Havi who caught it mid air and read the word. It read simply: DEAD!
Naraka sang as she cut through the air, having her shape changed so that it wouldn’t be recognisable. Naraka now looked like a massive, doublehanded sword with a larger than average tip. Of course, Lex still swung his sword with a single arm.
The attack came too quickly, but the Havi wasn’t in the least bit worried. Did the devil really think that she was a pushover? Just because she-
The Havi’s eyes constricted in fear as she heard the song of death and decay. She flapped her wings and flew back rapidly, but no matter how far she flew, or how fast she flew, distance was meaningless in a place with no space.
The absurd strength of Lex’s arm forced the law of Anchor to manifest within Naraka, filling it with the strength of an exploding star! His sword intent, bathing Naraka’s body in a condensed white light, was so intense that it forced the law of Pulse to cover its edge.
As if that was not enough, Lex stopped restraining his Dao Body, which meant that his sheer bloodlust mimicked the most complex display of Hollow he had ever witnessed - the previous use of the Butter Knife! 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
With three of the Ruling Laws packed into one sword slash, Lex was not playing around when he attacked. Havi or not, Elder or not, no one took advantage of Lex and got away without suffering the consequences.
The distance between them was greater than the distance between the moon and the Earth, and yet when Naraka descended the Havi wailed in pain as her thick, green blood splashed out into the air.
A deep gash covered Havi’s chest, cutting through skin and bone, revealing her inner organs. Yet that was not the end of the attack, for the energies from all three laws wreaked havoc within her body, threatening to destroy her whole!
She fell from the air and into the devil’s shadow. She looked up to find that their surroundings had changed, and that she was inside a forest of dead trees, the ground covered in thick, white mist. In the night sky hung two red moons, bleeding a trail of blood from the sky to the earth, almost as if they were two eyes shedding tears of blood as they looked down at her.
Standing in front of those two moons, blocking their ominous red light, was the devil, casting a long shadow that covered her.
She had not been ready for this. The devil was far stronger than she had imagined, and far more lethal than he had any right to be. But she was no push over. This would not be enough to take her down. She merely needed to-
"A Celestial Apex you may be in front of the whole universe, standing tall and proud" the devil spoke as he stepped towards her through the dead forest. "But in front of me, all you can do is kneel."
Shame. It had been so, so long since this particular Havi felt the sensation of shame. But as she was looked down upon by a Heaven Immortal devil, and she was genuinely in a position of kneeling, she was filled with shame. Naturally, that shame quickly transitioned into anger.
Although Lex had taken the lead in this fight, and had even inflicted tremendous damage, she was not without skill of her own. Not a single Celestial Apex was weak!
"A day of pride,
A week of sin,
A year of grievance,
A thousand years of despair!
Abide by agony!" she chanted, her words seemingly influencing the laws and shifting the dream.
Lex felt himself being targeted by powerful laws, as inescapable webs tied themselves around him, slowly transmitting some kind of condition onto him. He felt that if he didn’t disrupt the situation, he may really have to live through what that Havi described!
Lex used his Karmic Bead and forcefully cut off the karma the Havi inflicted on him by attacking him, dissipating the attack and its effects.
But by then, the Havi had recovered. The dream had changed, and she had regained some control. It did not matter. In fact, the greater the challenge, the more fun this would be. Naraka was singing in joy as it cut through an Elder, as if the blood of Elders was the greatest tonic in the universe!
Lex was not even using all his means yet. This fight was a good way of testing his strength, and so he tested.
Unlike all his previous fights, this was not an exchange of moves of spirit energies. Instead, it completely devolved into manipulating laws and targeting each other like that. The realm trembled, the currents of energies raged, the laws swirled as anarchy spread through their clashes.
The ripples of their fight traveled far and wide, affecting countless dreams, within the Dream realm and without, creating legends and rumors as it did. A wicked bird, an evil devil, both agents of malevolence, crossed blade and claw in a bout for dominance.
Reality and dream intermingled as the reverberations of their clashes rewrote their surroundings in the Dream realm, merging countless smaller dreams into one, massive one. Thousands of weaker immortals feared and lamented as they were caught up in something they could not even understand.
The fight had only just begun, but Lex truly had no interest in wasting time with this. Instead, he would punish the Havi with something far worse than death. He would cause her to live in disgrace!
A loud wail tore through the skies and an evil laugh echoed across the lands.
"A mere bird dares to target me - how could you ever seek out the solace of eternal escape? Live in agony, and know that forever more, when my legends are uttered, your only name besides my defeated foe will be: chicken wings!"
For a race that valued names so much, Lex figured giving her an embarrassing name would be the worst thing ever. Afterwards, he disappeared, cutting off his karma and leaving no trail for Chicken Wings to track!
Countless immortals had personally witnessed the fight and heard the words, and even more beings across the universe had dreamt of it! Suddenly, the legend of the devil rose to prominence, and along with it, the tale of the legendary Havi - also now known as Chicken Wings!
Lex secretly nodded to himself. If he lived in the universe of Ultimate King Emperor: All the Gods call me Daddy, the main character would be proud of Lex’s latest attempts at face slapping.
Since he had already escaped, he did not hear the fury filled howl that nearly killed some weaker immortals! The only reason she didn’t immediately begin a slaughter was because she had been too rampant with her power, and the Dream realm suppressed her by throwing her into a distant dream, allowing the poor immortals to escape.
Lex, on the other hand, found that his rumor started to spread so quickly that he began finding more and more workers and guests. His rescue efforts were going great!
