The Kingmaker System
Chapter 530 - 529. Forging A Weapon (2)
Remi who was walking past the hall happened to glance out of the window with Kate on his side and spotted Davian and Sol walking towards the mansion. His eyes grew wide as he noticed that Davian was shirtless.
He looked at Kate and threw an instruction, "Hurry and get a blanket or coat!"
The maid nodded before she briskly walked away while Remi quickly rushed over to the main entrance where they would appear and gasped looking at Davian who seemed unfazed by walking half-naked in the chilly winter.
"Y-Your Highness! Why are you not wearing a shirt? It’s so cold!" Remi gasped.
"I’m fine, I’m not cold though." Davian smiled as he put Sol down.
Kate appeared with a blanket in her arms and handed it to Remi.
"How could you be so reckless, Your Highness! Master will be worried if you fall sick!" Remi sighed as he placed the blanket over Davian’s bare shoulders.
Davian simply chuckled but then his eyebrows twitched as he noticed a hostile energy. He looked up finding Kai and Roan coming down the stairs.
"Davian! What happened to your shirt? Why are you walking around like this in such cold?!" Kai shouted as he ran up to Davian.
Davian smiled as Kai reached them and Remi stepped back. Davian once again looked at Roan whose face had a blank expression but his eyes seemed strangely fierce as if the blades ready to impale. Davian wondered if the hostile energy he felt was it from him?
"I’m fine don’t worry." Davian said before looking at Roan who came and stood beside Remi.
"You shouldn’t roam around like this, Your Highness. There are guests in the mansion and it’s unsightly for the future Grand Duke to stroll in just trousers." He spoke sternly and Davian narrowed his eyes just slight bit before he smiled.
"All right, I understand. Who’s the guest though?" He asked.
"Archmage and his fiance are here." Kai answered and Davian frowned a little.
"So early?" Davian muttered before he looked down at Kai and Sol.
"Let’s have breakfast together then." He offered, "when will Master be free?"
"It might take some time, I’ll request Your Highness and Young Masters to have breakfast first." Roan said.
"All right," Sol spoke and Davian shrugged.
"Ah, then, I’ll quickly go and prepare the dining hall." Remi said and looked at Kate.
"Let’s go." He told Kate and they walked away.
Davian noticed as how Roan kept watching them until they were out of sight and then he looked back at Davian.
"Your Highness should go and change, you don’t want to catch a cold." He said and then turned to leave.
Davian looked at Kai gesturing at Roan, "What’s wrong with him?"
"He is behaving strangely," Kai affirmed and then added, "he and Archmage probably had a fight."
Davian nodded in understanding before he walked up to his room to change.
Back in Ocean’s office, Reina had done talking to Alys who now sat quietly on the couch while Reina waited for her to speak up.
The time ticked away and Reina stood up and walked up to her desk and started checking through the documents that needed checking that day. Alys lifted her head and looked at Reina who stood leaning against the side of the desk with the papers in her hands.
She had seen the same girl many times before and had learned as how weak and fragile she was. She wouldn’t even attend social events given the reason of her weak constitution. But here she was standing in the male clothes looking at the documents like it was just another day.
Just a while ago what Reina had told her head made her heart hammer away in terror but considering how she was so calm about it, Alys wondered if she was the only abnormal one to feel fear.
She had been running for her life as long as she remembered, the dangers were constantly at her back and wherever she found a respite the shadow of death would follow her. Sometimes she would just brush against it and sometimes those who were kind to her would fall prey to it. She had seen countless people die because of her and had taught herself that if she wanted to survive she needed to fight or run. Till four years ago, she had been using these two tactics to save herself but after being found by Ocean Ryujin and meeting Silas she felt as if she didn’t need to fight anymore.
She trusted them but she also feared that someday, the death might catch up and she might lose someone important to her again. She wouldn’t be able to beat it if anything happened to Silas, that’s why she has been rigidly insistent on never appearing before the public in her real form. But after what she learned from Reina now, it felt as if there was hope.
It was dangerous but there was a hope that after this she could live a happy and safe life with Silas. The kind of content life that she had only dreamt of.
She just couldn’t gather enough courage but considering that Reina/Ocean had promised her that she would protect her and Silas at all costs, Alys was tempted to trust it. She did trust Ocean but when it came to life and death, she couldn’t help but falter.
She watched Reina scribbling away, unbothered by the danger looking on the horizon and then sighed. If this little girl could do so much and even destroy the Esmertia family’s pillars within a short amount of time then, there was a hope that she might also fulfill the promise that she made.
But she was still a little scared.
"Re-Reina?" Alys called and Reina hummed not looking up from the papers.
"Is it really necessary for me to go with you?" She asked hesitantly.
"Yes, I need to have his confidence and don’t worry. If anything happens, I’ll prioritize your safety and send you away safely to Mage’s Tower." Reina said before she picked up the Ryujin family seal and stamped it over the document.
Alys watched her for a moment before she sighed, "But what if someone notices that it’s me?"
"Trust your fiance’s craftsmanship, Aunt Alys. My uncle’s devices break only under extreme circumstances." Reina spoke with a smile.
Alys sighed as she realised that device was the reason why the whole kingdom was being fooled so well. She had also used it once during Kai’s birthday party and despite her been too scared and paranoid that someone might notice her, she remained unnoticed.
Besides, apart from the fear, Alys wondered if she would remember some of the memories of her parents if she went with Ocean.
Her fingers subconsciously clutched the fabric of her dress and her heart started beating hastily. She couldn’t remember much about them but she had always known that they loved her dearly. If she could recall that love then, maybe it was a risk worth taking.
"... Fine, I’ll go." Alys said and Reina looked at her.
"Really?" Reina asked and Alys nodded.
She still looked a little hesitant but she was willing to take this risk.
Reina changed her form back to Ocean’s making Alys stare at him.
Ocean flashed her a charming smile.
"Also, I hope you’ll keep it a secret, Aunt. Only family and a few close aides here know of me being Reina. Nobody else knows so, try not to slip it before anyone." Ocean said and Alys blinked.
"Ah, yes." She said.
"Thank you," Ocean beamed.
When Ocean and Alys reached the dining hall, they found Davian, Sol and Kai already there.
The maids and Remi who were in the hall bowed to Ocean.
"Oh, Master, good morning." Davian greeted him with a smile.
"Good morning, Master." Kai beamed.
"Morning," Sol spoke while stuffing his face not even bothering to look up at Ocean.
Ocean smiled watching them, "Good morning,"
"Where’s Silas?" Alys mumbled.
"Archmage is probably sleeping, that’s what Mr Roan told us." Kai answered and Ocean hummed before he pulled a chair for Alys and then sat down himself.
"That’s good, he looked pretty tired," Ocean mumbled and Remi served his breakfast.
"Besides, I thought I saw Your Highness and Sol going in the forest this morning. What were two doing?" Ocean asked as he started eating.
"Sol is giving me some tips on growing stronger." Davian answered and Ocean paused before looking at Sol who looked unbotbered.
"Hm... And what did he teach you?"
"He’s been teaching me about the nature of mana and how I could use it better as a sharpened sword instead of a torch." Davian spoke.
Ocean cocked a brow hearing that. Was this really just spoken by the man who is considered to be the Beast of the Battlefield?
If he was just learning the basic nature of his aura then how on earth was he so formidable in the battlefield? Just what was Sol teaching him?
Ocean used Mana Eyes on Davian and instantly noticed hid aura that seemed more like blazing violet inferno instead of how the mana flow that Ocean had been used to seeing.
He only hoped that Sol knew what he was doing and for Davian to understand and follow the instructions properly or else it would be a headache to clean up the mess that would be left behind.
Anyways, he was looking forward to Davian’s upgrade. He would need a strong knight soon anyways. It would be better if there was a weapon at hand.
