The Kingmaker System
Chapter 558 - 557. Dance In Shadows (5)
Ocean landed on the balcony of his room and opened the doors stepping inside. His hair were completely drenched and despite his coat being waterproof the water still slid from it.
He shook his head sensing a presence in his room and sighed.
"Master!" He heard a voice before a towel landed over his head.
"Goodness, I knew you might end up coming back drenched like this!" The concerned cry made Ocean chuckle.
"Why are you here so late, Your Highness Davian?" Ocean asked, "If anything, this should be done either by my wife or maid."
Davian rolled his eyes. He had been waiting to talk to Ocean since the ball ended but when he came to Ocean’s room he found it empty with the doors loosely closed.
It was a clear night outside so, Davian thought that maybe Ocean went out for a flight but with the sudden storm he had deducted that Ocean would be returning all dripping wet.
He had sat with the towel in case his hunch would be true and it had been. He rubbed Ocean’s long hair gently with the towel and then helped him out of his coat.
"What’s that box?" Davian asked as he noticed the box tucked under Ocean’s arm.
"Ah, this, it was a little gift for someone." Ocean said.
Davian looked curious, "Who? And what is it?"
Ocean chuckled before he handed the box to Davian, "Why don’t you check it out yourself?"
Davian stopped rubbing Ocean’s hair and took the box.
"Isn’t it a gift for someone? Why are you-" he opened the lid and nearly dropped the box in shock.
Ocean used telekinesis to keep the box from falling and laughed watching Davian’s reaction.
"Ma-Master! How could you scare me like that?!" Davian spoke gathering himself and Ocean placed the box down on a nearby table.
"Wh-Who was it for anyways?" He asked and Ocean hummed placing the towel over his shoulders.
"Golden Serpent." Ocean said removing the mana devices on him.
Davian was at a loss of words hearing this, "What?!"
"Well, she was pissing me off so I went to give her a warning." Ocean said and Davian walked over to face him.
"You really..." Davian spoke watching Ocean unbuttoning the jacket that he had worn underneath his long coat.
Davian chuckled, surprised.
"You’re quite incredible Master. Did you really go in front of her and show her this box and warned her to not mess with you?" Davian asked.
Ocean shrugged placing the towel and the jacket on the headrest of the armchair and stretched his arms above his head. He was standing in his black shirt with the black leather vest strapped to his abdomen clutching at his tiny waist and shapely, flat chest carrying the pockets for daggers on the either sides.
Davian watched the fine, muscled body of Ocean Ryujin before he sighed reaching out to unbuckle the black vest and Ocean looked at him.
"What are you doing since earlier, Your Highness?" Ocean asked.
"Helping you."
"I don’t remember hiring the heir of Montaire family as my personal attendant, Your Highness."
"Davian." Davian corrected as he finished unbuckling the two buckles that were over, one was over Ocean’s chest and other on the side.
"I know your name, Your Highness." Ocean said and Davian sighed.
"You do but you never use it, Master."
Ocean tilted his head slightly and then turned as Davian helped remove the black vest. He watched as Davian picked up the black jacket and the towel before walking towards the basket.
"You even address the Queen of Mordino by her nickname and don’t use any honorifics with her at times but you are always so formal with me." Davian said.
Ocean pulled his shirt from under the trousers letting it hang loose over his frame.
"So, you want me to be casual with you as well?" He asked and Davian turned around, his lashes lowered.
"At least call me by my name, I... feel like I’m an outsider even though I’m living in your house." Davian said.
Ocean sighed, "Did someone say something to you?"
Davian looked at him and said, "Even if no one says it, I can understand, Master. Apart from the people here nobody else is willing to be close to me. I thought I could at least be friends with Young Duke but even he gives me a cold shoulder... Maybe that’s because of Prince Eric but..."
Ocean stared at him for a moment before he walked up to him. Davian kept his eyes down as Ocean stood in front of him. Ocean knew that the people even on his side were wary of him for some reason. Maybe it was because he was of Frosthail and that territory was while a part of Sestia, it was like an off-limits zone which was considered dangerous. And anyone who was of that place was dangerous. Besides, Davian at first glance would come off as cold that’s why people probably had a hard time approaching him.
Ocean reached out placing his hand over Davian’s shoulder.
"Don’t worry, you still have your Reina, don’t you?" Davian looked up and saw Ocean smiling at him, he still had the black mask on his face.
Davian stared into the endless blue orbs and for some reason he couldn’t help but feel something strange. These eyes were so similar- no they were exactly like Reina’s. Davian recalled ever close detail about Reina, her face shape, her hair length, even how mesmerizing her eyes were. And Ocean possessed the same eyes. How?
Davian reached out and gently removed the black mask revealing Ocean’s breathtakingly handsome face. With his androgynous features, he was capable of wooing not only women but also men. And with his face now exposed, the smile looked even more enchanting.
His eyes then slid over to the earstud that was on Ocean’s right earlobe, it had four stones on it, blue sapphire, ruby, diamond and a yellow sapphire. He recalled that Ocean had told him that the earstud and earcuff that he wore at times were for disguise. But, if Ocean looked like how he did in front of him then why need the earstud?
Davian reached out to touch the earstud and in a swift movement Ocean grabbed his wrist. Davian could barely touch the mana stone and he looked at Ocean. Ocean’s eyebrows were lifted now with the smile still there.
"What are you trying to do, Your Highness?" Davian frowned a bit and Ocean chuckled.
"Sorry, what are you trying to do, Davian?" He corrected himself and Davian glanced at the earstud again.
"Master," he started, "You always answer all my questions, right?"
Ocean nodded and Davian then looked back at his eyes, "Then, can you honestly tell me what this earstud does?"
Ocean’s eyebrows twitched, "I told you, they’re for disguise."
"Only for the female disguise?" He asked and Ocean pursed his lips.
Davian noticed his hesitation and then glanced back at the earstud. Sol had prompted him again and again about this earstud and even though he had an answer for it, he still couldn’t shake off the feeling that there was more to this earstud than what met the eye.
"Master, won’t you tell me?" Davian asked.
Ocean closed his eyes for a moment and then reached out touching his earstud, the red ruby glowed slightly before Ocean’s body was enveloped in a warm glow and instead of an androgynous blue haired beauty there now stood a tall, more muscular black haired and red eyed man.
"I’m Ace D’Arc." Even the voice had changed to a rather heavier and huskier tone.
The glow from the ruby faded and the yellow sapphire started glowing and the form in front of Davian was of a young teenager boy with light caramel skin, blonde hair and perky greenish blue eyes.
"This is Lynx." He said pointing to himself, voice light and slightly highpitched.
And glow of Ocean’s body faded again before he reverted his form and this time he changed into a young man with long teal green hair, long pointed ears and a face that would make any living being swoon. His ocean green eyes fixed on Davian.
"I don’t have a name yet, since it’s a newly installed disguise of an elf." The voice was masculine but so smooth and deep that it would enchant anyone.
Davian’s jaw dropped and Ocean reverted back to his male form. Ocean’s finger still lingered on the earstud as if contemplating something.
"That’s really incredible, Master! I didn’t know you were handling three disguises at once." Davian’s eyes sparkled with excitement and Ocean smiled averting his eyes.
"Well, it’s not that incredible but... There’s one more identity that I have." Ocean spoke in a low voice.
"What is it?" Davian asked leaning closer.
Ocean turned his eyes meeting with the excitedly violet orbs. Ocean had decided to just do whatever he wanted in his personal life while keeping the future consequences aside but for some reason he was scared now. What if Davian’s love faltered when he realised that he was being lied to all the while?
"It’s... a secret." Ocean smiled making Davian pout.
"Why? You just showed me all your other disguises, just show me the other one as well!" He insisted and Ocean sighed.
He then glanced at Davian before he thought of something and said, "You have seen my wings, haven’t you?"
Davian blinked, caught off guard and then nodded, "Yes,"
Ocean smiled, "Well, they have been upgraded now. Would you like to see them?"
Davian’s eyes twinkled and it seemed as if he had reverted to his child’s self again.
"Yes! Yes!"
Ocean chuckled, successfully distracting Davian from the disguise topic and stepped back before he unfurled his wings.
All the three pairs of pure golden white wings flared behind Ocean plunging the room into blinding brightness. Davian covered his eyes slightly watching the three pair of wings now.
"W-Weren’t there only two pairs of wings? Now it’s three!" Davian gasped.
"Upgraded," Ocean simply said and Davian walked closer.
He stared at the wings that looked not like anything made by a man, they looked like real angel’s wings. Davian hesitantly reached out and touched the soft feathers, a small smile gracing his features.
"They’re even more beautiful." He murmured.
"I know," Ocean said.
"Can I get a pair too?" Davian asked and Ocean chuckled.
"Sorry but you can’t, it’s something that only I possess."
"But, it was created at the Mage’s Tower, right? If I ask for them, won’t you craft a pair of wings for me?" Davian asked.
Ocean sighed, "This one... is a one time innovation that’s why it’s impossible to regenerate the ones exactly like this. But I’ll try to make another pair and when I do, I’ll give them to you."
Davian beamed, "Really? Thank you, Master."
Ocean chuckled lightly and then glanced at the clock that showed that it was really late.
"You should head back now, it’s quite late. I have an audience with His Majesty tomorrow so, I’ll also have to catch some sleep." Ocean said.
Davian hummed, "All right, good night, Master."
"Good night... Davian." 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Davian smiled before he left the room and Ocean stood in his spot watching the door closed and hearing the footsteps recede.
He couldn’t possibly tell Davian about his real identity just yet.
