The Lady's Butler: I Reincarnated To Serve The Villainess
Chapter 122: Fighting The Corrupted Spirit King
With two of his clones possessing the beasts, the fight got leagues easier, especially considering that they could use a form of [Shadow manipulation] and skills from the possessed beasts.
It took a while, but he managed to deal with all the other beasts, leaving only one,
The Spirit King.
It was calmly floating in the air, looking at Adrian and the two beasts beside him, with its single glowing eye.
The spirit king didn’t seem bothered by the fact that they had eliminated all the other corrupted beasts; after all, as a being meant to stand at the pinnacle of the world, the mere deaths of insects meant nothing to it.
"It’s just you and me," Adrian said before pausing and looking at his clones, "and these two."
"Let’s get this over with shall we," The moment those words left his mouth, his two clones, still possessing the bodies of the beasts, lunged towards the spirit king.
The Yeti was the first to get close to it, and it immediately lunged with both hands aimed at its target.
Instead of dodging, the spirit king’s eye just glowed and it lightly swung its hand as if swatting a fly.
A moment after its action, a heavy force slammed into the clone mid-air, launching it into the darkness, and the next thing Adrian felt was being dismissed.
Which hadn’t happened before, as even if their humanoid form was destroyed, he could still reform them.
The Spirit King’s tendrils extended and before the clone possessing the yeti-like beast could reach it, the tendrils pierced cleanly through it, causing it to stop in its tracks.
The next second, the clone suddenly dissolved off the Frosthorn behemoth’s corpse, letting it fall over.
Adrian let out a sigh, he had hoped the clones would at least pose a bit of a threat to the spirit king, turns out, they were less than fodder to it.
Though, he wasn’t too surprised at that outcome, after all, the clones were barely forty percent of his strength.
He was just expecting a bit too much.
Adrian was snapped out of his thoughts when the Spirit King suddenly lifted its arm towards him.
He immediately switched places with his shadow, and just in time, because the next second, the ground where he stood suddenly caved and a large crater was instantly formed.
The Spirit King didn’t seem the least bit bothered by the fact that Adrian managed to dodge its attack.
Instead, it simply swatted its hand again, and the same heavy force slammed into the clone that was approaching it mid-air, launching it to the side.
Unfortunately, that created a big enough distraction for a large shadow spike to be launched at its back.
But before the spike could reach it, they were suddenly stopped in their tracks by an invisible force, and the next second, they crumbled.
Adrian let out a sigh, seeing that his attacks were only a minor inconvenience to the spirit king.
Since there were no spirits in here, he expected it to at least be a bit weaker.
Unfortunately for him, Noctis was determined to get all the corruption out of his mana, so the cat fed all of it into the Spirit King, making it as strong as it was whilst fighting the Prince and Saintess.
He was suddenly forced to move again when one of the creature’s eyes on its body locked on him.
Adrian moved just in time to barely avoid getting crushed by the force that created a crater where he was previously standing.
But the moment he reappeared, his eyes widened as a certain force suddenly slammed into his side.
The attack lifted him off his feet, launching him in the opposite direction, but the spirit king wasn’t done yet, because a moment after its attack, it followed up with multiple tendrils aiming to skewer him.
Fortunately, just before they could reach him, Adrian used [Shadow Swap] and disappeared, letting the tendrils impale a clone as he teleported to safety.
The impaled clone suddenly melted into a pool of shadows the moment the tendrils reached it, crawling up them.
Adrian spat out what felt like a mouthful of blood as he reappeared a distance away before wiping his lips and looking towards the spirit king and muttering, "Finally got you."
The neat thing about [Shadow Possession] was the fact that his clones didn’t need to take over the beast’s entire body, hence,
The tendrils coated by the clone suddenly twitched before they turned and aimed directly for the Spirit King’s eye.
A moment after, they launched towards it in blinding speeds only to be stopped merely inches away from their target by the monster’s hand.
The creature looked almost disappointed by the attack, but Adrian on the other hand, just grinned and said, "Bullseye."
The next second, the tendril suddenly extended and cleanly pierced through the Spirit King’s glowing eye.
"There we go," he said with a chuckle as the monster reeled back, trying to pull the tendrils from the eye, but they held firmly.
Not letting this chance pass, Adrian crouched down, gathering mana on both his feet before releasing it all in one go, launching himself in the air.
A large spear made of shadows and with all the strength he could muster, he hurled it at the struggling spirit king.
Spotting the incoming danger with the eyes riddled all around its body, it tried lifting its other hand to stop the spear, whilst the other still held on to the possessed tendril.
Unfortunately, damage to its main eye affected the others, causing them to see the spear in a position it was not.
By the time the spirit king managed to fold his hand around the spear, it had already pierced straight through its chest.
Adrian landed on the floor and watched as the spear extended within the Spirit King’s body, in search of its core.
A moment later, the monster froze mid-air, stopping its struggle, as if a puppet that had its strings cut,
It fell towards the ground before disappearing into what seemed to be dark smoke.
Adrian finally let out a sigh and sat on the ground, grabbing his left arm which the force had slammed into earlier.
He had deliberately let his clone let out enough mana to alert the spirit king to where he’d reappeared next, hence the reason why that attack landed on him.
But it was a deliberate plan, since, given the Spirit King’s personality from the manhwa, it wouldn’t try to crush him in one go, and that was what cost it.
"It’s not a flashy win as the prince and Saintess did, but I’ll take it," With that, he stood back up and looked up.
"Are we done?" He asked, knowing that the damned cat was watching.
«Yes,» Noctis responded, «congratulations on successfully breaking through.»
