The Last Gentleman
Chapter 161: Monastery in the Mountains
A clean and tidy private ward.
This đŹontent is taken from fĐłeewebnovŃl.cođ˘.
The silver-haired youth leaned against the soft hospital bed, with pale pink moonflowers placed in a vase by the bed.
This consciousness ward, created by Moon Scar, belonged to his temporary resting area within Yi Chenâs body.
The night scene outside the window corresponded to real-time events occurring outside.
At that moment, the door opened.
A female doctor in an ultra-short wrap skirt, revealing her signature long legs, came over to change Moon Scarâs bandages, covering his right eye with a fresh gauze smeared with white pollen,
...
The doctorâs head attached to the IV pole also looked out the window, a deep red lip peeping through the black hair, curiously asking:
âIt seems the situation outside is quite dangerous, and theyâve unknowingly separated the three of them⌠Those three humans arenât lacking in the slightest on a mental level, the opponentâs tactics are very clever indeed.â
Moon Scar nodded, seemingly very interested in what was happening outside, and gave a simple evaluation.
âGradual illusion inducement, fully utilizing the complexity of ascending the mountain and the effects of the Grey Zone.
If the problem was not spotted at the initial climb, one would gradually get lost amid a sea of corpses, mountain paths, stones, and other such factors leading the way.
The enemy is quite thoughtful, and in terms of eye prowess, just as William had guessed, it might be an open-source existence, or at the least, someone who has peeked at and absorbed ancient knowledge, infinitely close to being an open-source entity.
To encounter such a challenging event right at the start? I intended to rest a bit before heading to the Old World, but it seems thereâs no chance now, and I may well be affected.â
Saying this, Moon Scar pulled the female doctor into his arms, who showed no resistance and even exhibited an excited blush on her face, hidden beneath her black hair.
âJoin me in watching Williamâs performance, and if there really is an open-source entity, Iâll go out and lend a hand⌠I donât mind warming up a bit before heading to the Old World.â

Holy Grail Mountain
Ludwig Reagan suggested that he take the lead in the team, using the clearing of eyes from the backs of corpses to regain his past combat sensations,
Halfway up, yet to reach the middle of the mountain, Reagan suddenly felt a sense of disharmony.
âWhy is there an inexplicable sense of pulling, as if being led by the nose.
Moreover, every four corpses, a Pathological Eye Cluster is certain to appear, too patterned⌠William, do your eyes see anything?â
âI havenât noticed anything abnormal, letâs keep climbing.â
Reagan, upon receiving the response, didnât lower his guard but became even more vigilant.
In his knowledge of William, the otherâs level of alertness was no less than his own. When he had asked such a question, even if William genuinely hadnât seen anything, he would have surely probed further into the details instead of dismissing it so curtly.
Without any outward sign, Reagan released a burst of Spiritual Shock towards the two teammates behind him.
Unexpectedly, the pressure did not touch anything⌠Turning around, he saw not a single figure behind him.
âHmm?!â
Reaganâs eyes instantly shifted, showing a Killing Intent that was never seen on an ordinary day, and the fat piled on his face seemed as if it was evaporating away. ášĂ˘ĹÇęĂđ˘
Zap! A strong electric current danced along his spine, coursing through his body, sparks flying even from his eyes, causing his hair to stand on end.
A circle of a special force field, encompassing both electromagnetic and Thought, spread out from his feet,
Hum!
The electricity expelled tore through the false visual scenery, revealing the real, complex, and full of detours, surreal mountain path.
Crack!
All the pebbles within a ten-meter radius were struck by the high-voltage electricity and burned until they smoked, turned belly-up, and a shriveled, blackened eyeball rolled out from within.
âFrom the moment we stepped onto this mountain, our thoughts began to be passively guided, unwittingly falling deeper within⌠We probably separated at the first fork in the road already.
With the complexity of this mountainâs structure, itâs nearly impossible to find the other two, and it will also waste a lot of energy.
Keep ascending⌠With their standards, theyâre bound to realize the issue, and we just need to meet at the summit in the end. If they die on the way due to inadequate strength, thatâs their own issue.â
Without any hesitation,
Reagan, with his hands in his pockets, followed the real mountain path upwards,
During this period, any object daring to get close would be electrocuted â even if one could withstand the shock and force their way closer, they would still encounter even more terrifying close-quarters combat.
âŚ
Jin, who was neither adept at Pupil Skills nor at Thought Perception within the squad, thought she would be trapped in the Vision Illusion indefinitely.
However, she was the earliest among the three to detect something was amiss.
On the fifth minute of the ascent along the mountain path,
out of sheer boredom, Jin used Instant Step before Reagan could make a move, reaching the restless Pathological corpse,
palm attached, and Red Lotus blossomed.
Crack! The corpse, along with the cluster of eyes on it, was blasted to bits â bones flew chaotically in every direction, nearly hitting Yi Chen in the head.
Having cleared the threat of the corpse, her teammates said nothing and continued upward, but Jin deliberately slowed down, waiting for Yi Chen to pass by her, then slap! A hand casually landed on his shoulder.
âWilliam, youâre a bit off today â if it were the usual you, even if you didnât physically stop me, you would at least comment on my recklessness,â she said.
âHmm, really?â
âIndeed, somethingâs not rightâŚâ
Red threads twisted between Jinâs arms, preparing to infuse Red Lotus Energy into Yi Chenâs body through the hand on his shoulder, but suddenly Jin thought of something, quickly retracting the energy back into her body.
A gentle voice came from beneath the mask: âJust kidding â letâs keep going.â
The madness within Jin prevented her from exposing the facade of the illusion before her; instead, she purposefully maintained the status quo, curious to see where the opponent wanted to lead her â preferably straight to the lair of Gathering Eye Disease.
Meanwhile,
a single red thread spread within Jinâs body, giving rise to a small Red Lotus at the top of her brain,
Should her physical body encounter any threat exceeding her limits, even if her other senses failed to convey information, this Red Lotus would activate in an instant,
exploding her skull, the intense stimulation and brain disruption pulling her back to reality.
At the same time,
the voice of Little Peyton arose in her mind, carrying out a Thought Communication between human and bird.
âCluck cluck, this William is a bit strange â doesnât seem like the charming guy I know! Maybe I should open all my eyes and observe closely, might catch a glimpse of whatâs real.â
âLetâs keep it this way â pretend everything is normal.â
âCluck cluck, all right!â
âŚ
[Yi Chenâs perspective]
He decided to trust his teammates, entering the mountainâs interior alone along a hidden wall.
The concentration of the Grey Zone inside was twice that of the outside, perhaps even approaching the discomfort of a medium Grey Zone.
The mountainâs interior was hollow and cylindrical,
all manner of bizarrely shaped rocks hung tumorous on the walls,
Yi Chen, using the Visual Enhancement provided by Little Grape, preemptively identified the regular rocks, rapidly scaling the wall with the aid of plant roots.
The vertical cylindrical passage was astoundingly high, Yi Chen felt his climbing speed wasnât slow, yet he spent well over an hour inside.
âCould it lead directly to the mountain peak?â
Upon reaching the top of the circular exit, there was no blue sky or white clouds to greet him⌠but rather a vast cave with a distinctly different ambience and inside, an ancient Monastery built within it.
As Yi Chen cautiously approached the Monasteryâs main gate,
the Stone Door actually opened outward, and a mysterious figure clad in yellow emerged,
wearing attire that was a cross between a Gentlemanâs Coat and a monkâs robe, both refined like a gentlemanâs and loose like a monkâs.
âHas an Organization found this place so quickly? Follow meâŚâ
âWatcher?â
