The Last Vampire God
Chapter 14: The Capital Of Ariel [2]
I walk past her towards the guild since the information could be helpful right about now anyway. She also used it as our excuse to get into the capital so I can imagine they’d be making sure that’s what we are doing.
Upon reaching the door I push it open to see an open room with people scattered throughout, all wearing various gear.
But ahead of them all is a counter where a woman stands behind, waiting for whoever needs the assistance. Eyes linger on me in this place; almost like people have a clue of what I am.
"What exactly do you think you can get from here?" Lia asks quietly.
Genuinely I don’t know what information I’m truly looking for since I don’t know anything or anyone. Hmm, but maybe it is possible to see if they hold information about any potential artifacts that the king might want.
This place is good for quests after all. That could be the answer to everything since we’d just set out for the artifact.
Obviously I’d keep it, not that they’d expect that or anything since everyone is give a chance to do quests. At least that is how I am assuming it works since guilds have always been in known for quest work.
"Hopefully something about an artifact that we can use," I answer while keeping my voice down.
"I don’t think they’d trust some random outsiders with a quest like that yet," Lia says while scratching her head.
"We won’t know until we try," I reply calmly.
It takes a moment but I make my way up to the counter where a woman with long blonde hair stands before me. She is also wearing a nice white dress with a red bow towards the top of her chest.
"New faces, hehe. I don’t usually see a lot of new people," She says with some excitement.
"Why’s that?" I question with curiosity in my voice.
"Usually people don’t come in here much, just the usual adventurers," She answers while still keeping a smile on her face.
"I see. Well, do you happen to have any quests for artifacts?" I ask while keeping a serious tone.
Her green eyes light up for a moment as she stares back at me.
"Artifacts aren’t typically a quest we give new people since ranks are also a consideration and I don’t think you two are part of any guild," She answers while looking back and forth at the two of us.
Hate to admit it, but Lia is definitely right about them not trusting new people with such a thing. I don’t want to think about the pain of signing up here so it might be best to continue exploring the capital itself.
I’d rather not waste too much time in one place since we don’t know if anyone is tracking me.
Thud.
A man sits down a cup next to me, slowly observing me while he looks towards the woman.
"I’m sure they can be trusted," He assures her.
"How would you even know that Zerif?" She questions with a curious look on her face now.
"I can just tell by how they are dressed. We don’t get strong people like this very often so you should give them one," He responds while looking towards me now.
Dark blue eyes, long black hair, wearing a trench coat with some sort of silver plated armor underneath, he is well equipped. The man also doesn’t look much older than me either.
"Fine. I suppose it won’t be an issue to give them this, but it’ll be on you if anything goes wrong," The woman says before handing a paper over to me.
I calmly take the paper from her and begin to look it over.
An artifact known for helping awaken dormant aspects of power lies within a cavern north of the Yami Forest. It’ll stick out greatly from the path as goblins also wander around the entrance.
I’ll have to look at the map with Lia once we leave this guild building since I don’t know a damn thing about some Yami Forest. I’m sure she’ll know better than me with where to begin.
With this we have a place to go when we are done exploring the capital at the very least but until then there’s more to check out.
I also don’t trust the guy who just vouched for us like this when we don’t know him in the slightest. He also didn’t ask for any sort of verification to make sure we are adventurers to begin with.
Wouldn’t it have been smarter to ask for a badge or medal or something that indicates we are from a guild.
"Dante we got what we need so let’s get going," Lia suggests.
I snap out of it and look back towards the door.
"Thanks for having faith in us," I say before walking away from the counter.
There’s no heartbeat coming from that man...
"No problem," He replies softly.
We don’t waste any time lingering around there and make our way out of the building to the busy streets once again. People are all around chatting and wandering through the streets like everything is good.
It bothers me for some reason... That these people don’t have to live in fear of being hunted like we did.
Shake. Shake.
"Sorry. I’m just wondering where to go next since there’s a lot to see here," I say while shifting my gaze to Lia.
"We can always pay a visit to the noble side of the capital since it would be smart to see what the king is like," Lia mentions with a soft tone.
"Then that’s exactly where we’ll head for the time being," I say while beginning to look for the path.
Finding the royal family would probably benefit me later on if I play it smart. They could become allies later on, even if I don’t want humans like them.
I hate humans but sadly they have quite a bit of numbers on me for now.
