The Most Arbitrary Wizard
Chapter 55 - 39: Turning the Tide
Elvire asked in confusion, "What problem set?"
"Sean!" Yisha said excitedly. "Sean’s problem set!"
Elvire didn’t understand what this had to do with Sean, but before she could think any further, Sean’s familiar voice reached her ears.
"He cultivates Puppetry Art!"
"Puppetry Art?"
Elvire reacted instantly. So the person who boarded the plane and left Holkaydo right under their noses was Zajik’s double?
"I didn’t expect Miss Flame Crow to have outside help."
The moment Sean’s voice fell, one of the orderlies surrounding the three women suddenly looked up, a murderous smile on his face.
His face was identical to Zajik’s on the floor above.
He seized the moment—the sudden turn of events, everyone still stunned by the Truth Technique—and his figure drifted over like a phantom. From several meters away, he threw a vicious punch at Elvire.
"Look out!" Yisha and Elise cried out at the same time.
The latter’s feet sparked with electricity against the ground as she flashed in front of the young woman. A thundercloud of lightning gathered in her hands as she tried to block the punch for her.
But the fist twisted bizarrely, elongating like stretched dough. It curved around Elise, heading straight for Elvire.
The young woman hastily raised her Giant Sword to block, but she was still sent flying.
However, it wasn’t the fist that had struck her.
It was Sean’s body.
Sean seemed to have used some kind of Teleportation Spell, managing to appear in front of the young woman just before the fist landed.
"BANG!"
His defensive Ring of Truth shattered like a heavily struck mirror, and he crashed into Elvire’s arms. His entire body was covered in blood, a miserable sight, barely looking human anymore. It was clear at a glance that his injuries were severe.
But in reality...
These were all injuries left over from his fight with Quill.
By now, Sean had used Forbidden Meditation to push his body to its absolute limit. With Magic Power dozens of times that of a Tier Two, he had more than enough to withstand a single blow from Zajik’s Puppet.
A Puppet, after all, wasn’t the main body; it couldn’t exert the full power of a Tier Five.
As her brother-in-law, since he had the ability, he certainly wasn’t going to let his little sister-in-law get sneak-attacked.
But Elvire didn’t know any of this.
She only saw that Sean’s Defense Spell had shattered, that he was covered in wounds, that his normally clean face was now smeared with blood...
She lowered her head, her eyes trembling.
The truth was, Elvire had never completely trusted Sean. She had Elise send Yisha to "protect" him, and while it was true she didn’t want him to die, there was also an underlying intention to "monitor" him.
Because Sean had guessed their plan of action.
Although she was more willing to trust Sean than others since he was someone she had personally saved, that didn’t mean she didn’t have her own considerations. Living in such a dark era, so full of malice toward Wizards, she was still willing to offer a basic level of trust. But at the same time, she would maintain a basic level of vigilance.
Elvire had suspected Sean.
Even just now, when Elise said she wanted the mole to not even have a complete corpse left, an image of Sean had flashed through her mind.
She didn’t want Sean to be the mole, but if he was, she would kill him with her own hands—provided she survived the night.
Yet it was this very man she had suspected who now used his own frail body to shield her, intercepting an enemy blow that could have severely injured her.
Deep guilt and a flicker of a never-before-felt emotion intertwined, flooding her heart like a torrent.
And so, a pair of burning wings sprouted from her back.
An aura that made one shudder slowly spread from the young woman’s body.
The surrounding temperature began to climb rapidly, and scattered sparks of fire started to drift through the air.
Then, at a certain moment, without any warning, the orderlies who were rushing in to take advantage of the situation began to spontaneously combust, one after another, the flames growing more and more intense.
Elvire gently laid Sean down from her arms. She stood up and looked toward Zajik on the third floor, her eyes filled with endless killing intent and a blaze that seemed capable of incinerating everything.
Zajik immediately sensed that something was wrong and drove his Puppet to attack the young woman again.
This time, however, he did not get his wish.
With a mere flap of her wings, Elvire stirred up a monstrous Flame Wave, directly blasting the charging Puppet away. Its skin was burned black and carbonized. If the Puppet had been a real living being, that blow alone would have been enough to kill it beyond death.
Zajik’s expression changed drastically.
"Tier Six?!"
How could she suddenly advance to Tier Six??
Seeing the young woman flap her wings, about to fly toward him, Zajik lost all of his earlier composure and hurriedly ordered, "Stop her!!"
’Even a Tier Six still has to abide by the principle of limited Magic Power.’
’And an increase in Tier doesn’t mean physical strength increases accordingly. If she doesn’t defend, even a Tier Three Wizard could harm her. As long as they can hold her back, he’ll be free to either fight or flee as he pleases.’
Hearing his command, all the orderlies in the garden quickly converged on the main building.
Zajik’s idea was sound, but reality was not so kind.
Sean, who should have been grievously wounded—if not dead, then at least half-dead—after taking a blow from the Puppet, suddenly stood up as if reanimated.
His pupils had turned completely gold. As he raised his hands—
"HUMMM!"
Transparent, crystalline golden walls shot up from the ground, instantly covering the entire garden and forming a massive Maze of Truth. Countless functions and inequalities floated in the air, making the heads of the hundreds of orderlies on site buzz and throb with splitting pain. Some of those at lower Tiers couldn’t even withstand the impact of the knowledge and clutched their heads, rolling on the ground in agony.
Elise stared at the absurd scene before her, feeling it was all so unreal. In a daze, she felt as if she had returned to her university days, and Sean was that terrifying, all-controlling math professor everyone feared.
Yisha, at this point, was completely bewildered.
’She had just been joking back then, but did this man really just use Magic Power to create a test and stump his enemies to death?’
’Could Mysticism really be used like this?’
’Is this even rational??’
The now-deceased Quill probably never imagined it, but his deliberate act of telling Sean that Elvire was in danger was meant to make Sean impulsively rush to the rescue and throw his life away for nothing. That way, Quill wouldn’t have truly lost.
In Quill’s eyes, no matter how strong Sean was, he couldn’t possibly change tonight’s outcome.
Unfortunately, he had underestimated Sean, and he had underestimated the power of a Forbidden Spell.
Vice Director Zajik didn’t yet know that Sean had arrived so quickly because of Quill; otherwise, he might have been angry enough to spit blood. If Quill hadn’t run his mouth, even if Zajik had failed to kill Elvire tonight, he himself would have been fine. But because of Sean’s arrival, everything had changed.
Because Sean hadn’t come alone.
There was also Kate.
A light dawned on the horizon, dispelling the thick darkness of the night.
Kate was also unaware of Sean’s previous battle with Quill and assumed that Zajik was the one who had injured him. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
And so, an enraged roar echoed across the sky—
"Zajik, you dare scheme against my brother?! You must be tired of living!"
