Chapter 72: Chapter 53: They Say There’s a Genius

Elvire didn’t understand dreams either, but she could tell the recent attempt at Entering the Dream had failed. It didn’t matter, though. Sopea, despite his rotten temper and constant posturing, was a decent person and would certainly keep his word. If Koni couldn’t handle it, Sopea would personally step in. All that mattered was that Sean hadn’t *actually* done anything to Koni.

Elvire took a sip of hot water and said, "When Sopea comes looking for you, let me know. I’ll go with you."

People of high status shared a common trait: they often cared more about rumors than the truth. Just like with those great families, face was sometimes more important than life itself. Elvire trusted Koni not to make false accusations, but Sopea would definitely want to settle the score, since Sean had genuinely made Koni cry.

However, someone under her protection wasn’t to be trifled with. It wasn’t Sean’s fault, and she refused to believe Sopea would dare give Sean a hard time in her presence.

Sean blinked. "Is Miss Elvire protecting me?"

Elvire remained calm. "You called me your leader. Isn’t it a leader’s duty to protect her subordinates?"

"Makes sense." Sean nodded, then added, "In that case, I have something else to report to my leader."

"Speak," Elvire said.

"Actually, my body has pretty much recovered," Sean said, glancing at the Magic Potion on the nightstand.

He’d thought it over and ultimately decided not to continue feigning illness. He mainly felt such a petty trick wouldn’t fool the girl. While the feeling of being meticulously cared for by his ’little sister-in-law’ was wonderful, it would be incredibly awkward if she saw through his act.

Besides, the potion tasted awful—like expired yogurt laced with something bitter. It was a very strange flavor.

As it turned out, he was absolutely right.

The doctors here personally handed Elvire his daily status reports and detailed test data. In a way, Elvire knew even better than Sean himself how his body was recovering.

"I thought you were going to pretend for a few more days." Elvire scoffed. "This is the last recovery Magic Potion. After this, the potions will be switched to what you need."

"What I need?"

"Mhm."

Sean had so much potential, and Elvire didn’t want to waste it. Taking advantage of the fact that everyone was free on the Day of Abstinence, she had invited a very skilled Alchemist to check Sean’s physical condition and create a tailor-made Magic Potion regimen to fundamentally increase the speed of his Magic Power Cultivation.

This included not only the Demon Spirit Potion to aid Meditation, but also the Gold Forging Potion to strengthen his physical constitution. With the same Magic Power conversion efficiency, the "stronger" and "healthier" the cells, the more Energy they would produce.

In the early Era of Polymath, this method of using Magic Potions to raise one’s Tier was considered a crooked, unorthodox path, and was once scorned by traditional Wizards. It wasn’t until a war broke out later that they understood: Mysticism encompasses all things, and there is no distinction between the righteous and unorthodox paths. In the words of a novelist like Sean—Cultivation is inherently an act of defying heaven, so why distinguish between good and evil?

All that mattered was survival.

Many people died in that war, including many Grand Mages of Tier Seven or higher.

Every one of them had immense firepower, a single person could be an army. But at the same time, each of them was as fragile as a piece of paper; the mere aftershock of a Forbidden Spell could turn them to ash.

The vast majority of those who ultimately survived the war were the Church Court Wizards who had long consumed Magic Potions, their physical strength far exceeding that of ordinary people.

War is undoubtedly cruel. It often leads a civilization to decline, but occasionally, it can also awaken the world, forcing people to change their established perceptions and allowing civilization to advance.

After that war, the Church Court unified the continent, established the Empire, and enfeoffed those who had performed meritorious service with titles and lands. It carved out over ten kingdoms for the various Duke Families to govern themselves. Thus, the Era of Polymath entered its golden age, which lasted for several hundred years.

"And then?" Sean asked.

Elvire replied expressionlessly, "I forgot."

Sean: "..."

’Did you lose your dream, too?’

"We’ll talk about the rest later." Elvire didn’t tell Sean that she simply couldn’t remember, only saying, "I’m going back to get some rest. You should sleep early."

’I should have left as soon as I dropped off the Magic Potion. It’s all Sean’s fault for being so talkative. Now I’m going to lose a lot of my beauty sleep.’

Sean felt completely wronged. Elvire had done most of the talking while he just listened, yet somehow, he was the one who got blamed.

Elvire didn’t care about any of that.

In her mind, she had never been one to enjoy chatting with people. She didn’t have the patience, especially not with men. But it was different with Sean. She couldn’t help but talk more with this guy. Was that her fault?

Of course not.

It was obviously Sean’s fault.

’Given how this guy likes to hide things, I have every reason to suspect he’s Cultivating some kind of Charm Art. Why else would a simple gesture like pouring me a cup of hot water feel so heartwarming...?’

’This guy is full of tricks.’

’I’ll have to be extra careful around Sean from now on!’

"I’m leaving."

Elvire didn’t stay any longer; she was truly sleepy.

Sean watched the young woman leave, took out the Magic Potion from the paper bag to look at it, then put it back. He smiled, shook his head, and lay back on the bed to play with his phone.

’Normally, I’d be exhausted after a bizarre lucid dream like that. But for some reason, I’m not the least bit sleepy, even after lying here for ages. Maybe I’m all slept out from sleeping for three straight days?’

’Good thing I’m not the only night owl.’

Just as Sean was feeling utterly bored, Charles sent him a text message: "How’s the Magic Potion working?"

Sean texted back, "Haven’t drunk it yet."

’Koni didn’t see a thing when she entered my dream, but I ended up seeing her entire life story. I can’t be the one to drink the Forgetfulness Potion, can I?’ 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

Charles was surprised by Sean’s instant reply: "You’re not asleep yet?"

Sean casually replied: "Too excited."

Charles: "What a coincidence. I’m excited too."

Sean: "Are you on drugs?"

Charles: "?"

"You’re the one on drugs."

’This guy always knows just what to say, doesn’t he?’

His thumb flew across the phone keyboard as he texted Sean: "Guess where I am right now?"

"The airport!"

"/Grin, I’m on my way to that address you sent me yesterday."

Sean: "?"

"What are you coming over here for?"

’Charles knows about Alola Town, too?’

’Or could it be...?’

"/Wary, you’re not thinking of bringing me another razor blade, are you?"

Charles: "/Eyeroll, don’t flatter yourself, you hack."

"I know where you are."

It wasn’t the first time he’d seen the address Sean gave him. He had several clients over there.

Charles himself had been to Alola Town before, for the same reason as this time: to watch his teacher perform Alchemy in person and take the opportunity to ask for guidance on some problems and questions he had encountered recently.

But this time, there was another reason.

Charles said smugly, "Do you know who my teacher is? The renowned Witch!"

"In the entire Void Technique Space, you can count the number of Alchemists worthy of being compared to my teacher on one hand."

Wizards can’t live without Magic Potions. From Tier One all the way to Tier Ten, Magic Potions are indispensable for Cultivating Magic Power. Therefore, an outstanding Alchemist often has a powerful network of connections far exceeding other Wizards of the same Tier. As long as you want someone to craft Magic Potions for you, you have to show them respect.

This time, his teacher, the Witch, had used the power of her network to introduce him to a few big shots during this Alchemy session. He’d heard that among them was a super genius who went from Tier One to Tier Two in just one week—a speed he wouldn’t even dare to dream of.

"It just so happens you’re over there too. We’ll probably go for a meal when we’re finished."

Charles said, "I’ll see what I can do. Maybe I can get my teacher to agree to me bringing someone along, so you can come and show your face."

No matter the era or the social circle, knowing the right people and playing the social game is always important, and Wizards are no exception.

The people who can get into Alola Town are all trustworthy. Getting to know more influential people can only help your future; it can’t hurt.

"No need to thank me. What are friends for?"

Charles said with his nose in the air, "Remember to keep the first two days of the Day of Abstinence free. Whatever you do, don’t be late."
