The Nameless Extra: I Proofread This World - Chapter 98: The Deepmarch Dungeon (3)
When the carriage finally came to a stop, Ruvian opened the door of the carriage and stepped out onto the cold ground.
The first thing he felt was the wind, which rushed over the open valley with a crisp chill that carried the dying breath of winter.
Although the end of January was near, and the worst of the cold had begun to retreat, the air still had a sharp edge to it, which caressed the edges of his fabric.
With a soft breath, Ruvian took a moment to look around.
’Seems like... they really went all out for this expedition.’
Tall banners with the emblem of Velthia Academy had been erected across the area, their dark fabric whipping back and forth with the wind in the clearing.
Several other carriages arrived in the area, parking beside theirs before scholars disembarked, with staff members beginning to direct them to their appropriate places.
Nearby, two people were lugging a heavy crate between them, and another group was setting up a large canvas tent that billowed slightly before coming to rest.
As Ruvian took a few steps away from the carriage, two academy staff approached him from the side. Both staff members were wearing dark blue coats, which meant they were the coordinators of the expeditions.
One of them made a slight nod.
"You’re with the dungeon expedition electives, correct?"
"Yes."
"Good. All scholars should go to the assembly area in the middle zone before entering the dungeon. Your instructors will direct the order of entry and go over safety procedures there."
The man pointed to the central section of the site, in which the large tables and gathering scholars could already be seen.
"Immediately go there with your team."
Ruvian followed the direction of his hand and nodded in acknowledgment.
"Understood."
Behind him, Silvena descended first, placing her feet softly on the ground before she stretched her arms, waking up her body.
"Ughh~ my back hurts from that ride. The seats are ridiculously stiff. They seriously need to redesign those."
Rosalin followed a moment later, comfortably descending from the carriage while adjusting the strap of her equipment belt.
"I see what you mean, though it did not feel that uncomfortable to me. The journey was quite pleasant." Rosalin said with an aloof smile.
Then, Ruvian also shifted his gaze toward Silvena for a brief moment.
"Huh? That is surprising," he said mildly. "You appeared to be enjoying the ride more than anyone else."
Silvena frowned. "What does that mean?"
"You slept through half of it," he replied evenly.
"Rather peacefully, if I might add."
Rosalin let out a small laugh behind her hand.
Silvena’s frown slowly curved into a sly smile as she crossed her arms.
"Oh? I see," she said lightly. "Then you must have been enjoying yourself quite a bit... watching me sleep, no?"
"No. Not at all."
"And never will."
Ignoring her entirely, Ruvian walked forward.
"Geez... how cold~"
Silvena slightly shook her head before following him from behind.
Without further delay, the three of them began walking toward the middle zone where groups of scholars were already forming beneath the fluttering banners.
*****
"Scholars, line up according to your team numbers." Instructor Veliana walked slowly along the line of scholars.
Once everyone had settled, she stopped near the center and spoke again.
"Before we begin, a few precautions."
"This is still a dungeon, even if the outer layers have been cleared and monitored by the academy. If any of you encounter a situation you cannot handle, your first priority is to retreat and signal your guide.
Do not chase those creatures too far into unfamiliar sections, and do not separate from your team under any circumstance."
"If someone is injured, withdraw immediately and inform the guide. There is no merit in reckless bravery during a training expedition."
"I will assume that all of you have already studied the Lesser Voidspawn that inhabit the first layers of this dungeon, as well as the basic layout of the entrance routes. Because of that, I will not repeat those details here."
Veliana glanced toward the valley where the dungeon gate stood, then returned her gaze to the scholars.
"Unfortunately, we are already a little behind schedule," she continued evenly. "So we will not waste any more time."
"I will call your team numbers. When your number is called, proceed directly to the dungeon gate. Your assigned guide will be waiting there."
"Team number 1. Please, move ahead!"
Not long after, their team number was finally called. Ruvian and the others left the line and started walking toward the dungeon gate.
"By the way, just for confirmation," Ruvian said as they walked. "You already gave the necklace to Calyra, right? And made sure she will wear it the whole time during the expedition?"
Silvena walked beside him along the narrow path that led down toward the dungeon gate.
"Yes. Once I mentioned that you insisted on it, she did not question it further."
A small hint of amusement slipped into her voice.
"And she did not even ask why either~ So, you don’t have to worry about that."
’I see... so she starts to trust me more now. That’s certainly a good sign. If so, then I don’t need to worry too much about it. She should understand why I gave her the necklace. She is smart, after all.’
Rosalin walked at a steady pace behind them, close enough to hear their conversation. At the mention of Calyra’s name, one of her ears gave a small twitch.
She did not interrupt them, nor did she show any outward curiosity. Instead, she simply continued walking beside them in silence.
When Ruvian’s team approaches the dungeon gate, they see several guides waiting under the huge canvas.
Then, one of them steps forward.
Both Ruvian and Silvena immediately recognized her.
Her long platinum hair seemed to shine in the pale light of the clearing, and her thin scar that crossed her left eye seemed to give her gaze a somewhat harder edge.
She carried only one sword at her hip, though it wasn’t the sword that caught his attention. But it was her confident bearing and her domineering presence.
’Silvena’s strongest Golden Cipher... with her leading the way, I suppose there’s little reason to worry throughout the expedition.’
Out of curiosity, Ruvian activated his [Character Sheet] skill.

Upon seeing her ridiculous stats, it was clear that she was indeed very strong. Hell, she could likely defeat a Lesser Voidspawn without even trying.
A single smooth draw of her sword would be enough.
For someone like her, facing a Lesser Voidspawn alone would be little different from a trained fighter dealing with a small wild animal.
’...And obviously, she can even kill me in a blink of an eye if she wanted to.’
Ruvian lightly joked.
’What the hell am I thinking?’
Ruvian shook those thoughts away.
But on serious note, seeing her current stats up close reminded Ruvian of a detail from the novel. In the original story, Calyra had only reached Seraphine’s level at the age of 21.
Now that he was part of this world himself, however, Ruvian had no intention of waiting that long. Calyra’s development was something he planned to accelerate.
Not just Calyra, but the rest of other named characters, too.
"My name is Seraphine. I will be guiding your team for this expedition, so please remain close once we enter the dungeon."
With a brief nod exchanged between them, she turned without another word and started toward the dungeon.
"Follow me."
