The People's God: Sacrificing Trillions to Ascend
Chapter 745 - Do You Think I’m Pretty?
In the city lord's mansion, the Guan Nan brothers were drinking with Han Wu. They had never expected to meet again in Wushuang City. Fate worked in mysterious ways indeed.
They were making merry when a servant from the Hu family suddenly barged in. “Sir, bad news! The Profound Netherworld Cult has found us. They’re only giving us fifteen minutes to get you to the Hu family estate before they kill us all!”
The Guan brothers jumped to their feet.
“That damned Profound Netherworld Cult!” Guan Nan sneered. “How dare they try to bully us!”
With that, he turned to bid goodbye to Han Wu. “Benefactor. I suppose this is the end for today. If I live through this, let’s drink together again.”
Han Wu frowned. “Never thought the Profound Netherworld Cult would chase you all the way to Wushuang City. They’re truly relentless.”
When he first arrived in the Divine Weapon Civilization, an old man calling himself the old ghost of black mountain had been on his way to kill Guan Nan, when he encountered Han Wu and died by his hands instead.
This was where Han Wu had obtained the Black Mountain Scripture. Much time had passed since then, yet the Profound Netherworld Cult was still hunting the Guan family.
Guan Nan was Han Wu’s friend. There was no way he could let him meet his end just like that. “Since I’m also here, let me go with you. I might be able to help.”
Guan Nan was touched. He had found out that Han Wu had killed the Wushuang City’s city lord, their team leader, and the allied forces of the noble families, so he knew Han Wu was stupidly powerful.
“Thank you, benefactor.”
With that, they rushed back to the Hu family estate. Corpses littered the ground. Guan Nan’s father-in-law was pinned to the floor while the rest were being forced to their feet.
None of them looked to be in good condition, but at least they were still alive. Guan Nan sighed in slight relief before glancing at the guards in red and the palanquin behind them.
“I am Guan Nan, the patriarch of the Guan family,” he declared. “Come at me. Don’t harm the Hu family.”
The Scarlet Ghost Matriarch chuckled. “It seems you’re a real man. The Profound Netherworld Cult wants something simple. As long as you can give it to us, we won’t trouble you any longer. If not, we’ll send both your families to hell.”
Rage swelled within Guan Nan. His family had done nothing wrong, but the Profound Netherworld Cult continued to hunt them for their family treasure.
“The treasure of the Guan family will never fall into the hands of evil beings like you,” he shouted defiantly.
“Then say goodbye to your father-in-law and his family. Kill.”
Her guards brandished their Divine Weapons, preparing to start their massacre, when Han Wu’s Small Locust Blades intervened, countering their blows and knocking them back from the Hu family.
“Such an interesting Divine Weapon...” the Scarlet Ghost Matriarch said, audibly intrigued. “It’s both strong and weak.”
Han Wu ignored her as he and his friends positioned themselves in front of the Hu family. “Guan Nan, go ahead. I will protect them.”
“Thank you, benefactor!” Guan Nan said, smiling in relief.
If not for Han Wu, his family would’ve been long dead. Guan Nan then summoned his Divine Weapon, a massive reclining moon blade with a dragon engraving. The pressure emanating from it indicated that it was a powerful Divine Weapon. As he attacked the palanquin, green energy converged around the blade.
A giant replica of the Divine Weapon made from pure energy appeared and swung downward. “Heaven-Earth Severance!”
This was the secret technique of the Guan family; the strongest move up his sleeve to kill all manner of evil beings. This single slash could dissipate monsters and ghosts alike.
The powerful energy blade cleaved the palanquin into pieces, revealing the Scarlet Ghost Matriarch. She gripped the edge of the blade, holding back a blow that deterred all manner of evil beings with just a single hand. The energy blade sizzled against her flesh, but even then, it failed to sever her.
Squeezing down, she crushed the energy blade. The backlash hit Guan Nan hard, causing him to fly backward with a spray of blood from his lips.
“Heaven-Earth Severance is indeed a powerful secret technique,” the Scarlet Ghost Matriarch commented, unfazed. “No wonder the cult leader wants it.”
Despite her unaffected appearance, she was secretly hiding her palm from sight. The large gash on her palm was growing increasingly severe, her flesh festering with every passing second. This was the power of Heaven-Earth Severance.
Unfortunately, Guan Nan was several times weaker than the Scarlet Ghost Matriarch, and his strike wasn’t enough to stop her.
In no hurry to kill Guan Nan, she bowed to Han Wu and the rest.
“If I’m not mistaken, you’re the young hero who killed the city lord, right? I am the Yin Emissary of the Profound Netherworld Cult and am known as the Scarlet Ghost Matriarch. I hope you won’t interfere with the matters of the Profound Netherworld Cult. I’m willing to let you and the people you’re protecting go. I only want Guan Nan. How does that sound?” she proposed.
Han Wu smiled. “I don’t think so. He’s my friend. You barge into my friend’s home and want to take him away. Do you really think I’ll do nothing?”
“Are you not afraid of offending the Profound Netherworld Cult?” she asked with an eerie chuckle.
“The Profound Netherworld Cult? I’ve already offended you guys when I killed the old man calling himself the old ghost of the black mountain.”
She let out a startled bark of laughter. “That old ghost is only a minor member of our sect. His death doesn’t concern us. I hope you won’t interfere with this matter and ruin your future.”
“If I don’t?” Han Wu asked, summoning 20,000 of his Small Locust Blades. He then used Triplicate and Seven Killings to multiply them into 3 million blades.
This was him holding back. If not, there would be enough Small Locust Blades to blot out the sky entirely.
The Scarlet Ghost Matriarch sensed the pressure emanating from the blades but showed no fear. Instead, she pulled her shawl open to reveal her black-green face covered in maggots.
“Do you think I’m pretty?” she suddenly asked.
Her ghastly appearance and unexpected question caused even Han Wu, who had seen a lot of crazy scenes, to feel disgusted. That was when he abruptly realized that his surroundings had changed.
He was sitting on a bed in a room filled with decorations. This was the night of his marriage. They were about to consummate their union.
Did I get hit by her illusion? Han Wu wondered with a grimace.
A voice broke him out of his musings. “Husband, am I pretty?”
Frowning, Han Wu turned his head to see Qin Shuang in a red wedding gown. She was lifting the red shawl that veiled her face, a radiant smile on her face that washed away all other thoughts in Han Wu’s mind.
“Of course you are.”
