The Plant Master Becomes A Mute Sub-Beast: Farming And Laying Eggs
Chapter 126: The Blind Mouse
After the group from the two tribes of Veridia and Solace had been working for a day, the group from the Eldoria and Pyre tribes also arrived.
They brought no goods, and furthermore, their guide already knew the way, so a journey that took Asher’s group a month and a half only took them about ten days.
Right from the moment he stepped foot into the tribe, the little orange mouse constantly clinging to Weston’s shoulder trembled and burrowed straight into his chest, snuggling deep inside the layer of clothing. The little boy’s teeth chattered against each other, making Weston unavoidably worried:
"What’s wrong?"
"Brother... Brother Weston... Strong... this tribe is too strong!"
The little mouse sensed many powerful presences that made his soul tremble. There were also two extremely terrifying streams of energy, making him not dare to show his face outside.
Weston slightly tightened the hand hugging the little mouse, his heart unavoidably surging with waves. He naturally knew Crimson was very strong, because more than half of Asher’s group he met before were warrior beastmen, and furthermore, even Sub-Beasts like Sorin were extremely strong.
It’s just that he didn’t expect that number was nothing compared to here. How terrifying must a presence be to scare the mouse cub to this extent?
After being taken to the dormitory, Weston further affirmed Crimson’s status. He had previously gone to exchange salt at Hollow, knowing what the scale of an Intermediate-level tribe was like, but he could confirm that Hollow fell far short of Crimson in terms of financial resources and capabilities.
At the very least, he had never seen any tribe use fired earth to build houses!
And then, after Weston received his personal items, his admiration for Crimson reached its peak.
What hired labor; they should just join directly!
However, just as Asher had said, wanting to join Crimson was not an easy matter.
The information and reactions of Weston’s group were quickly presented upwards. Sane looked at the little orange mouse’s information and said with interest:
"Innate Divine Energy? Just like the little Ice-element Sub-Beast that newly arrived at the tribe last time?"
"Yes, Chief." Morrow nodded and said: "According to my observations, this child’s Divine Energy is quite similar to Ian’s. The difference is that this child was born unable to open his eyes."
Kaelen had just returned from visiting their two children; hearing this, he asked: "Is it that he has no eyes, or does he have eyes but cannot open them?"
"That child cannot open his eyes, Priest. His eyelids seem to be stuck together, completely unable to be opened."
Kaelen was a bit curious, but they had just arrived at the tribe and were still in their 24-hour quarantine period, so he couldn’t go see him right away. After arranging some tasks and handing them over to Morrow to do, Sane told him to step down first, then turned to ask Kaelen:
"How are the babies?"
"The speed at which they are absorbing energy from the magic cores is decreasing; perhaps they have gathered enough energy. At the latest, in four days, our children will break their shells." Kaelen said, then pulled out the "Warrior Beastman Training Method" manual recovered from Cipher’s hands, pointing at the array hidden within it, and said:
"I can understand the rules of this array, but I still cannot decipher it. Can you see if you can interpret it? If the array can be broken and the erroneous inherited parts corrected, our tribe’s warriors will be able to advance."
Except for those two freaks, Sane and Zale, almost everyone else was stuck at level two and level three. Those who studied according to Kaelen’s new method aside, those who studied according to the old method truly advanced with great difficulty.
However, Kaelen had to admit one thing: the training method the Temple gave to Obsidian was indeed not ordinary; the beastmen who had studied this old method were much stronger than those who studied according to the new method.
The two leaned close to each other, discussing in low voices.
Time passed like that for about two days. Finally, on the morning of the third day, Kaelen had the chance to meet that blind mouse in Kai’s preschool class.
Early this morning, Sane had run over to Obsidian to dispatch people to build a road connecting to Eldoria. Coal was a good thing; they needed to build the road as soon as possible. At the very least, before winter arrived, the tribe had to mine a sufficient amount of coal for winter use.
Although the peat mining source over here was still plentiful, the peat bog was only so big; once it was fully mined, it would be gone. Having another, better source of burning material, why wouldn’t they exploit it.
Besides that, the issue of salt was also very important. The salt mine in the tribe could sustain them for at least ten years, but if the tribe’s population increased in the future, the number of exploitable years would definitely decrease. Kaelen began to set his sights on the sea, but the term ’sea’ was truly very foreign to the people on the Beastman Continent.
They had never heard of the sea, let alone seen it. The more he investigated, the more stuck he became; Kaelen decided to temporarily set aside his work and take a stroll around the tribe.
It wasn’t that Kaelen actively went to see the little mouse; he was just taking a tour around the school, and simply happened to be clung onto by this brat.
The little mouse liked Kaelen very much, partly because of the gentle energy radiating from him, and partly because when Kaelen approached, this congenitally blind boy ’saw’ light for the first time.
The little boy didn’t know who this older brother was, only knowing that the older brother was very warm, and his entire body emitted a soft, pure, and clean golden light. The little mouse cub couldn’t hold back and crawled out of the crib, clinging to Kaelen’s leg.
Kaelen felt something incredibly soft touching his leg; looking down, he saw a tiny orange mouse clinging to his leg. The little boy had pale orange fur, and a small, chubby body, somewhat resembling a hamster, but slightly larger than a normal hamster.
It seemed the boy was preparing to climb up his body. Kaelen subconsciously smiled, bent down to actively pick the boy up, and said with a smile:
"Oh, whose baby is this? Planning to skip school?"
Being picked up, the little orange mouse twitched his ears and said shyly: "My name is Ryder. Brother, I like you very much."
Kaelen raised an eyebrow: "This seems to be the first time we’ve met; we haven’t even talked to each other yet, and you already say you like me. You’re quite crafty, little brat~"
Ryder raised his two paws to rub his own ears, a hint of pink appearing on his white-furred cheeks: "I really do like you, big brother. You are very warm; I like you the most!"
Just yesterday he liked Brother Weston the most, and today he had already changed his tune; if his Brother Weston heard this, he would definitely be heartbroken for several days. Of course, Weston was currently busy raising silkworms way over in Obsidian, so he definitely wouldn’t know that the brat he had cherished since birth had completely forgotten him in the blink of an eye.
Seeing the mouse cub being so adorable, Kaelen couldn’t resist saying to Kai: "I’ll take him for a stroll around the tribe, and bring him back later."
Kai naturally did not object. Kaelen carried the little mouse away, telling Ryder about what was in the places they passed as they walked. Knowing Ryder couldn’t see, he described things in great detail. With the little mouse’s companionship, Kaelen felt a bit of relief in his heart.
At noon, he made an exception to go to the kitchen to make delicious dried meat shreds for the little mouse. The little mouse loved this chewy, sweet-and-sour dried meat shred dish very much, constantly hugging the dried meat shreds and chewing with his cheeks puffed out. Kaelen found it incredibly adorable, unable to resist using two fingers to pinch that puffed-out cheek.
Having his mouth pinched into a duckbill shape, Ryder blanked out for a moment, then continued smacking his lips as he chewed.
Kaelen was amused, suddenly understanding the feeling when Sane, feeling an itch in his hands, poked his dimple. He lifted Ryder onto his palm and asked the boy:
"Now I have to go to where my children are; do you want to go with me?"
"Yes, I want to go see the younger brothers."
Kaelen carried Ryder along to the advancement area.
The moment they stepped into the array, approaching the two eggs, Ryder excitedly swayed his head:
"Younger brother, younger brother, there are two younger brothers. So strong, so warm! I like the younger brothers!"
Kaelen was a bit surprised, not expecting the boy to be able to know exactly that there were two children in this place. He pondered the boy’s words for a bit and suddenly understood. It seemed this boy’s ability was sensing the energy on a person’s body, right?
Energy generated can be good or bad; when a person is happy and sociable, the emitted energy will always be positive. Meanwhile, those with gloomy moods or malicious intents will emit somewhat gloomy, cold energy. This child would rely on that to judge whether an approaching person was a good person or a bad person.
If this ability were placed alongside Ian’s, then it would truly be a crime-sweeping radar; it would accurately hit wherever it swept.
"Let’s go, it’s naptime now. I’ll take you back to the preschool, okay?"
Ryder immediately hugged Kaelen’s thumb, pouting: "I don’t want to go back; I want to stay with you, Brother Kaelen!"
Kaelen was also very fond of Ryder, so he decided to keep the brat by his side. He told a guard beastman to run and notify Kai, while he himself carried Ryder back to his large tent.
Sane’s aura still lingered in the tent; the mouse cub couldn’t hold back and turned its head to burrow into Kaelen’s chest, his ears trembling slightly. Kaelen asked curiously: "What’s wrong?"
The aura on Kaelen’s body perfectly covered up Sane’s terrifying aura; Ryder snuggled deeper into his chest, muttering: "The energy is too strong, I am a bit scared."
Kaelen blinked, suddenly understanding, and smiled as he said: "Ah, that is my mate’s, who is also the Chief of Crimson. Don’t be scared, he is a good person." After speaking, Kaelen himself laughed first. He actually went and told a mouse that the snake in the cave was a good snake; this was truly fearing the mouse wouldn’t curse him out.
Ryder naturally wouldn’t curse Kaelen out. The boy was merely frightened by the terrifying pressure coming from the aura in the air, rather than out of fear of a predator. Kaelen carried Ryder to the small bed and placed the boy on it. On the inner side of the bed was a bamboo basket, which was the nest Edward often lay in before going missing. Kaelen brought the basket here, also hoping that one day when he woke up, he would see Edward lying obediently in the nest.
Placed near the nest, Ryder’s small nose flared slightly, his whiskers twitching as if sniffing something in the air. Lying down next to him, Kaelen saw the boy’s actions but didn’t think much of it, only assuming the boy was sensitive to the unfamiliar environment. He reached out to pull Ryder close to him, stroking the mouse cub’s body, and said softly: "Go to sleep."
Ryder lay still on the soft mattress, letting Kaelen stroke him. The stroking speed gradually slowed down, then stopped completely. Kaelen’s breathing was even; it seemed he had fallen into a deep sleep.
Ryder pricked up his ears slightly to listen. After making sure Kaelen was fast asleep, the boy stealthily crawled out of Kaelen’s embrace, then inched bit by bit to the side of Edward’s nest.
The boy’s nose twitched slightly, constantly sniffing. Next, the boy stood up on his hind legs, his front paws grabbing the edge of the basket, sluggishly crawled inside, and lay snugly within it.
