The Rise Of A Shadowsmith
Chapter 244: Dark-knight Returns (3)
The night air hung heavy with tension as Shinon fought the burly figure shrouded in a dark cloak, wielding a polearm that seemed to pulse with an otherworldly energy.
The weapon seemed to have enchantments, which the man revealed after Shinon had given him a second chance. đđđŚâŻđ¸đŚđđđđˇâŻđ.đđđ
Shinon, his face and hands concealed, watched with a discerning gaze as the leader gripped the polearm with both hands.
A surge of power emanated from the weapon, causing the air to crackle with an unsettling energy. The shadows seemed to retreat in the face of the polearmâs mysterious might.
Shinonâs lips played a subtle smile as he recognised the weapon. In a low, amused chuckle, he thought, âSo theyâve brought out my creations against me. But they seemed to have modified it a bit.â
Sensing Shinonâs reaction, the leader scowled and powered up the polearm further. The weapon glowed with an intensity that bordered on blinding. Shadows danced along its length, twisting and writhing as if alive.
"Youâre doomed now!"
Shinon, his eyes narrowed, lifted a finger and gestured for the leader to come forward. The challenge was clear, and the alley seemed to shrink as the two figures locked eyes. Fueled by anger and arrogance, the leader charged at Shinon with the pulsating polearm raised high.
As the first strike descended, Shinon moved sideways in a flash with an agility that defied the limitations of the human form. He flowed like a liquid shadow, seamlessly evading the attack. The polearm whistled through the air, missing its mark by inches.
Shinonâs response was a swift counter, a strike aimed at the leaderâs midsection. But before the blade could find its mark, the leader, fueled by the mysterious power coursing through the polearm, deflected the blow with seemingly enhanced strength.
âHm... trading lifeforce for strength,â Shinon muttered. âBerserker enchantment... strange. I didnât know there were people beside me capable of doing it.â
"Stop daydreaming fucker!" the man yelled and charged at Shinon.
The alley became an arena of clashing forces. Each swing of the polearm was met with a calculated dodge or parry from Shinon. The leaderâs attacks, though powerful, lacked the finesse of the Shadowbearerâs movements.
Amidst the dance of blades, the leader grinned triumphantly. "This polearm is no ordinary weapon, Shadowbearer. It can shatter the strongest of defences. Even reinforced concrete yields before its might!"
Shinon rolled his eyes, a muted response escaping his lips. "Of course, it can."
As he said that, his mind replayed the memories of forging the weapon he now faced. It was a creation born from his own hands, and the Eclipse had turned it against its maker.
The leader, oblivious to Shinonâs inner musings, grew increasingly frustrated. "Still laughing, eh, Shadowbearer? This polearm will be your downfall!"
In response, Shinon smirked before gesturing for the leader to continue his assault. The dance of blades resumed, but now, something had changed. Shinon was no longer just evading the strikes; he was toying with his opponent.
With each swing of the polearm, Shinon moved effortlessly, like a phantom in the night. But instead of launching a direct counter, he chose a different tactic. His free hand struck out like a shadowy viper, smacking the leaderâs head every time Shinon elegantly sidestepped an attack.
Bewildered and enraged, the leader struggled to comprehend the humiliation.
"Stop playing games, Shadowbearer!" he roared, his strikes becoming more frantic.
Shinon, still shrouded in silence, continued toying with the man. The alley echoed with the rhythm of clashing steel and the occasional thud as Shinonâs hand met the leaderâs skull. Soon, the fight became a spectacle, and even the scared prisoner couldnât help but laugh at the sight.
With his face reddening with anger, the leader channelled more energy into the polearm. The weaponâs glow intensified, and the air crackled with a palpable tension. A noticeable force surrounded the polearm like the air around them was conspiring to magnify its destructive power.
As the leader unleashed a powerful overhead strike, the ground seemed to tremble. The polearm descended like a meteor, leaving a trail of ethereal darkness in its wake.
Shinon, however, remained unfazed. He slid to the side with a calculated move, allowing the polearm to crash into the pavement with a deafening impact.
The force of the blow sent shockwaves through the alley, but Shinon seized the opportunity. He closed the gap between himself and the leader, his blade ready for action.
A series of quick strikes followed, each exploiting the leaderâs vulnerabilities. The once-confident Eclipse figure found himself on the defensive, the pulsating polearm now a liability in the face of Shinonâs relentless assault.
During the onslaught, Shinon spoke for the first time, his voice a low murmur that carried a weight of ancient shadows. "You wield powers you do not understand. This weapon is beyond your capabilities, and its true potential even eludes you."
Battered and bewildered, the leader could only watch as Shinon executed a final, decisive manoeuvre. He disarmed the leader with a deft twist of the Nightshade Blade, sending the polearm clattering to the ground.
"W-Wait! We can talk-"
"Not interested."
With a swing of the sword, the defeated leader lay sprawled on the ground, and the pulsating polearm that once wielded shadows as a weapon now lay discarded, its glow dimming into nothingness.
In the quiet aftermath, a sudden gust of wind stirred the air, and the Escapist appeared in a swirl of dust. Dressed in his flamboyant attire, he bowed theatrically before Shinon, his cape billowing in the night breeze.
"Ah, the Shadowbearer, my favourite customer! I see youâve dealt with these ruffians in your usual dramatic fashion," the Escapist declared with a flourish.
Shinon arched an eyebrow at the Escapist, his expression unreadable. Undeterred by Shinonâs stoicism, the Escapist straightened up and rubbed his hands together.
"So, my shadowy friend, are the goods ready for transportation? You know, the usual escape plan. Ready to whisk away from this drama-filled episode?" he inquired with a mischievous glint in his eye.
Without uttering a word, Shinon gestured towards the group of people he had just saved. They stood huddled against the alley walls, their expressions transitioning from fear to gratitude. The Escapist followed Shinonâs gaze, and his eyes widened with realisation.
"Ah, excellent indeed!" the Escapist exclaimed, clapping his hands together. "A different kind of goods, it seems. Always keeping me on my toes, Shadowbearer. I like that!"
As the Escapist helped the rescued individuals and coordinated their departure to safety, Shinon stood in the fading shadows. During the activity, the Escapist discreetly slipped a sealed letter into Shinonâs hands.
"Something for you, sir," the Escapist said, his voice lowered to a conspiratorial whisper. "A letter from a friend, they said. Perhaps something interesting to spice up the night."
Shinon nodded in acknowledgement, his eyes never leaving the Escapistâs flamboyant figure. With a parting smile, the Escapist vanished as quickly as he had appeared, leaving Shinon alone with the letter in hand.
Taking a moment away from the rescue, Shinon found a secluded spot. He carefully tore open the seal of the letter, revealing its contents. The moon cast a gentle glow on the paper as Shinonâs eyes scanned the words inscribed within.
It was from Rico and Kira, his old allies from a time that Shinon barely remembered anymore. Shinonâs expression betrayed a hint of emotion for the first time in a while.
As he decided to read the letter, memories of shared battles and silent camaraderie flooded back. But the news was unlike what he had expected.
"They caught on sooner than I expected..." he mumbled. "I need to consult Miro about this."
