Chapter 259: A MONSTER’S LOVE

"Careful, Kingsley. I’ve still got enough leverage to bury you and Jean, with a single phone call."

Logan’s jaw tightened, but his voice dropped to a cold, dangerous murmur. "Then you’d better make it fast. Because the moment I find proof of what you’ve done to Jean and to me, I won’t stop until you’re ruined. Not just in the press... but everywhere. Every deal. Every contact. Every friend you think you have."

Tyler swirled the amber liquid in his glass, pretending to be unimpressed. But his grip had tightened just enough to betray him. "You think you scare me?"

Logan leaned in, close enough for Tyler to see the promise in his eyes. "I’m not here to scare you, Dominic. I’m here to let you know you’ve crossed the last line you’ll ever cross."

For a beat, neither man moved.

Then Logan straightened, turned, and about to walk out without another word... leaving Tyler staring after him, his fake confidence cracking just enough to let the unease seep in.

But then...

Logan’s steps halted mid-stride.

Tyler’s voice slithered through the air like poison. "So... you know about that night, huh?"

Logan’s back stiffened. His hands curled into fists so tight his knuckles whitened.

Jean’s tear-filled eyes flashed in his mind, her voice trembling as she pushed him away in the early days. The walls she’d built. The way she’d recoil from certain touches.

He turned slowly, the fury in his gaze burning hotter than anything Tyler had ever seen. "I will end your life, Tyler Dominic."

Tyler only smirked, lounging back as if savoring the reaction.

"You can’t, Logan. Jean tried." His tone was almost mocking, but there was a twisted pride in his words. "She went to police but they were already paid by my father. Her family was given enough to keep quiet. She even went to the hospital to collect DNA from the baby growing inside her... just to prove I did that to her."

The world tilted for Logan. His heartbeat thundered in his ears.

Tyler chuckled darkly, shaking his head. "I loved her. And yet all she ever did was go against me. I would have kept the baby... I really had. It was our sign of love but she chose to use my baby against me. So... my family and her family trapped her and forced her into miscarriage."

Logan felt his chest cave in. His soul left him for a breathless second as the truth sank in like a blade.

Jean’s fear of hospitals. Her refusal to talk about the past. Her pain that he could never quite reach... Now he knew why.

His voice came out raw, shaking with rage. "You monster... You call this love?"

Tyler’s smirk widened, feeding off the devastation he’d caused. That was the final spark.

Logan’s control shattered. He lunged across the room, the sound of chair toppling over drowned out by the explosive impact as his hands locked around Tyler’s collar.

Glass shattered.

Tyler’s drink hit the floor.

The penthouse filled with the sound of their struggle... grunts, the crash of furniture, the thud of fists finding their mark.

Logan wasn’t just fighting. He was purging. Every ounce of rage, every image of Jean’s tears, every scream she’d never let out in front of him... he was giving it all back to Tyler, with interest.

Tyler’s head snapped back with the force of Logan’s punch, a split second before the front door burst open.

"Freeze! Hands where I can see them!"

The bark of authority sliced through the haze of rage, but Logan barely processed it. Two uniformed officers surged into the room, followed by a man in plain clothes holding up a badge.

Logan’s grip tightened on Tyler’s collar, but the cold press of a gun barrel against his temple made him still.

"Kingsley," the detective’s voice was flat, "step away. Now."

Tyler, still pinned to the sofa, coughed and smiled through split lips. "See? I told you he’s violent."

Hands yanked Logan back. He didn’t resist until two officers had his arms twisted behind him, steel cuffs biting into his wrists.

"You planned this," Logan hissed, eyes locked on Tyler’s. "You knew I’d come."

Tyler wiped the blood from his mouth, smirk curling like smoke. "I didn’t have to know. I just had to make sure the right people were watching."

"Let’s go," the detective ordered.

Logan was shoved toward the elevator, his mind a storm of fury and realization. The fight hadn’t been the mistake... walking into Tyler’s den had been. And now, instead of ending him, Logan was exactly where Tyler wanted him... in police custody.

As the doors closed, Tyler called out, voice echoing into the hall. "Tell Jean I said hello."

Jean was pacing again when her phone buzzed. This time, it wasn’t a cryptic photo. It was a call.

She answered instantly. "Logan?"

But the voice on the other end wasn’t his. "This is Detective Harlan with the NYPD. Are you Jean Adams?"

Her pulse stumbled. "Yes."

"You need to come to the Twelfth Precinct. Logan Kingsley’s been taken into custody."

The words felt foreign, like they’d been said in a language she shouldn’t understand.

Custody.

Logan.

Police.

She swallowed hard. "Why? What happened?"

"I think it would be better if you heard it here." The line clicked dead.

Jean stared at the phone until the silence became deafening. From the kitchen doorway, Hannah’s voice broke through. "What is it?"

Jean looked up, her throat tight. "It’s Logan. He’s been arrested."

"What!" Hannah didn’t even hesitate. "I’m coming with you."

Jean glanced toward the hallway where Henry was keeping watch, his hand resting on the concealed holster at his side. Emma lay sleeping in the next room. The safe house felt like it had shrunk around them.

"I can’t leave you here alone..." Jean began.

Henry stepped forward, his tone firm. "You go. Hannah stays with you. Emma and I will hold down the fort here. No one’s getting through that door."

Jean hesitated only a heartbeat before nodding. She grabbed her coat, Hannah already sliding her phone into her bag.

The winter air bit at their cheeks as they climbed into the waiting car. Hannah’s hand found Jean’s and gave it a squeeze, silent but steady. Jean stared out the window, the city lights blurring as the car sped toward the precinct.

Logan, what did you walk into?
