Chapter 62: FIRST KISS

Finnegan

That burgundy dress was going to be a problem. My problem.

It had been a problem since she walked in with Eric Lewis’s hand at her back, so close to that ass. It didn’t help that she was everywhere, checking the catering team, visual team. I knew she was just doing her job.

Tell that to my hands, they were trembling to tear the dress off her body.

The crystals along her neckline caught and threw gold light every time she moved, making them dance across the top of her tits. Every single time the slit opened with each stride, flashing a long tanned gorgeous thigh, I got even fucking harder.

But now she wasn’t here. I hadn’t seen her in the hall in the last five minutes and Eric sat alone at their table.

Fuck. When was the Sanctuary opening again?

This was getting too damned messy. I was nowhere near finding Red, you would think she was a ghost. Aphrodite was amazing and I had no problem waiting two bloody weeks before I had to see her, if there wasn’t this simmering, foolish desire for my freaking assistant.

My phone vibrated against the table with a text from an unknown number. "Enjoy the gift."

I knew it was Carlton Gayle. The audacity of that jackass to try to threaten me. I had my security team on every spot, but I was sure Carlton knew that as well.

"...devastated. The woman lost her home, Dominic, and you put her in a car and sent her off just like that..." Mother had been speaking about Victoria for a while. I had zoned her out while searching for my assistant, desperate for some relief from the headache that pounded against my forehead.

I had a speech to give in twenty minutes, a headache was just what I needed. I still couldn’t figure out why Victoria would have burned down the house and the more it baffled me, the more it was just down right suspicious. Why go that far at all?

My Abigail...fuck, my assistant came out of the corridor, heels snapping against the floor as she crossed towards me quickly. Her face was pulled in that serious frown she had anytime she was deep in work.

She would scrunch her face up as purse those lips. Behind her was Alicia, I rose from the table.

"Excuse me, Mother,"

We met in the middle of the floor, our bodies, mine and hers nearly colliding. Those heaving breasts jiggled when she stopped abruptly before me, her jasmine scent quickly curling around me, unearthing images of her bent over my desk, moaning my name.

"Sir, there’s something you need to know. Can we talk in the corridor?"

I tipped my head in a nod, there was no need to draw attention. Once we got to the corridor out of the crowd’s eyes, Miss Kellerman’s turned to the head of public relations. "Tell him,"

"I’ve been meeting with Kyle Edmund," Miss Duke reported proudly, and I cocked a brow.

Kyle Edmund? The same idiot that had tried hacking into company secrets?

A questioning look grazed my face as I narrowed my eyes at her in confusion.

Her smug smile dimmed and she cleared her throat awkwardly. "I was able to get some things out of him tonight. He said something about Carlton Gayle planning some attack on your launch."

My brow dropped, snapping together in a frown. "And what did he tell you?"

"At table nine, there’s a journalist there called Walsh from a publication called Vantage Media. But Vantage media doesn’t actually exist. Carlton created the fake company six weeks ago. Kyle was in charge of it since he knows how Wolfe operates and can use that knowledge against us. He approached me a few weeks back and I let him think I didn’t know who he was-"

"Get to the point, Miss Duke."

"Walsh is going to stand up during your speech," Abigail cut in. "Accuse you of bypassing regulatory safety approvals on the VTD car publicly, cause a scene to draw most of the security team into the hall while his accomplices destroy the VTD car backstage while that happens."

Gayle, the absolute bastard. What sort of crude plan did that huge head of his cock up?

"Who’s the accomplice?"

"We don’t know yet."

"Then have Walsh thrown out!" I barked.

"Then we’ll never find the accomplice," My assistant quipped, tapping her forefinger over her lips. "How about this, sir?"

Those cornflower blue eyes blinked up at me while a coy smile played on her lips. "We wait. I’ll take some of the guards backstage and we’ll hide. The moment Walsh stands up during your speech, the accomplice will show up to destroy the car and we can get them red handed."

The hall glittered and hummed not so far from us while I considered what she said.

"Do it,"

Miss Duke gasped, her eyes widening in disbelief before she caught herself. My assistant however, had turned on her heels already moving back through the hall, talking into her earpiece.

"Now the moment you’ve all been waiting for,"

The MC’s voice filled the room. It was time. I clasped on the button on my suit jacket, rolled my shoulders back and strode into the hall. "The CEO of Wolfe Corporation, the number one automobile industry in the United States, please welcome to the stage, Finnegan Wolfe!"

Cheers erupted from the audience as I climbed the stage. My speech was fourteen minutes, I knew every word of it the way I knew every car I had ever built, from the inside out and then the outside in. Right towards the end of my speech, Walsh rose up.

"Mr Wolfe, there are reports suggesting the VTD’s regulatory safety approvals weren’t fully completed before tonight. Can you-"

"They were." I replied dryly, holding his eyes. "Anything else?"

Throw a fucking tantrum, I dare you.

His mouth opened, he glanced nervously at the curtains behind me where the car was, then wisely sat down. Whatever cue he was waiting for to throw his tantrum hadn’t come.

Which meant Miss Kellerman had handled it.

I turned back to the room. "My father told me once that the best thing a man can build is something that outlasts him. Tonight I’d like to show you Wolfe’s proudest creation yet,"

I tipped my head toward the stage manager. The curtains behind me dropped and a sleek golden car sat under a set of spotlights, drawing gasps from everyone across the room.

An applause built, thundering through the hall. The car under the lights was exactly as I had worked for it to be, better than I had wanted it to be.

My father would have taken it for a spin with me in the passenger seat, blasting some silly blues music. The memory warmed me and for a moment a thrill, a very exhilarating thrill filled my bones.

The launch was a success. Gayle could go stick his dick in a bag of salt.

I went backstage three minutes later. Miss Kellerman rushed over to me, a bright smile lighting up her face flinging her arms around me.

"It’s a success!"

My entire body stiffened, her soft curves pressed against every hard inch of me for those mere seconds. I drew in her jasmine scent greedily, like a drug I was rapidly getting addicted to.

"Oh shit, sorry," she squeaked, shooting away from me like I burned her.

She hadn’t done that when Eric had his fucking hand at the top of her ass. My lips twisted bitterly at the thought.

"I must have been overjoyed out of my senses," She laughed, a hearty musical note that had my legs moving, closing the gap between us. "We found the accomplice. The security team has him-"

"Abigail," I murmured, my hand reaching up to cup her jaw. The warning bells in my head rang so fucking loud, but they weren’t as loud as the little gasp that slipped from those soft red coated lips.

Damn it all to hell.

I dropped my mouth to hers and kissed her.
