The Substitute Ex-Wife: Seeking a Divorce
Chapter 197: Thank You
"Well, Eric threatened Anita by saying he would release today’s video at the press conference," Owen said softly without looking up from the list in his hand.
"What video? What’s wrong with Eric? President, don’t worry. I’ll go downstairs and guard it now. I guarantee that not a single fly will fly in," Bruce said seriously to Owen.
"Then go," Owen said with a smile, thinking Bruce was joking.
"President, don’t laugh. I’m serious. I’ll go now." Bruce turned around and prepared to go downstairs.
"Enough. Isn’t Miranda coming soon? If you want to go downstairs, go pick her up."
"President, that’s not what I meant." Bruce immediately stopped and turned to Owen.
"I know. Go. Keep an eye on the situation downstairs while you’re at it. See if Eric comes," Owen said with a smile.
Bruce listened to Owen without saying anything and nodded before walking downstairs.
"Bruce, are you here to pick us up?" Miranda’s manager saw Bruce first and hurriedly said with a smile.
"What a coincidence," Miranda said with a smile when she saw Bruce.
Bruce went downstairs and was about to see if Eric was at the door when he bumped into Miranda and Miranda’s manager. He didn’t expect such a coincidence, so he quickly said, "The... the CEO asked me to see if you guys are here."
"Yes." Miranda nodded without saying anything and glanced at Bruce again.
"Miss Miranda, you can go up first. The CEO is upstairs. I’m not done here, so I won’t send you up," Bruce said while avoiding Miranda’s gaze. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"Go up first. I have something to tell Bruce," Miranda said as she turned to her manager.
"Okay, hurry up." With that, the manager left.
She had been conflicted since the day Owen came to the recording studio to look for her. She wanted to call Bruce, but she felt that it would seem insincere, so she delayed it until today.
"Bruce, thank you. I’m sorry for only telling you now." Although she thought that she would definitely meet Bruce at the company today, she did not expect to meet him downstairs. Miranda finally decided not to hesitate anymore and summoned her courage to speak to Bruce.
"Miss Miranda, you don’t have to thank me. I decided to do it of my own accord. It has nothing to do with you," Bruce said after thinking about Miranda’s words.
In fact, President Owen had told him about his visit to Miranda. He had been nervous and looking forward to it these past few days, but when he really heard Miranda thank him, he felt calm again.
"No, I’ve been thinking about it for days. No one has ever cared about me like this before. I really feel grateful towards you, but I don’t know how to express my gratitude. I hope you’re not angry that I thanked you so late," Miranda said to Bruce again.
"Miss Miranda, don’t say that. Why would I be angry? I’m afraid you’ll blame me for taking matters into my own hands." Bruce was happy to hear Miranda’s words, so he hurriedly grinned and said.
"No, Bruce. I wonder if you have time tonight. I want to treat you to a meal. Can I?" Miranda said with a smile while looking at Bruce, who was smiling foolishly.
"Dinner? Really? The two of us? I have time," Bruce said in disbelief.
"Yes, really. We’ll go after the press conference," Miranda said seriously with a nod.
"Okay, okay," Bruce agreed quickly.
"Then I’ll go up first and wait for you upstairs," Miranda said with another smile and turned to walk towards the elevator.
"Okay." Bruce felt dizzy from joy and nodded mechanically. Then he watched Miranda’s figure until he couldn’t see anything else before looking away.
After standing downstairs for a while and not seeing anyone suspicious, Bruce prepared to go up. When he walked to the reception desk, he saw that a man carrying a camera and wearing a hat seemed to be arguing with the receptionist.
So he turned around and walked towards the reception desk. "What’s wrong?" Looking at the receptionist, Bruce said.
When the receptionist saw that Bruce was here, he quickly said, "Special assistant, this person said that he was here to attend this afternoon’s press conference, but he forgot to bring his identification. According to the rules, we can’t let him in without an identification."
"Yes, I understand. I’ll handle it," Bruce said with a nod.
So the person wearing a hat and carrying a camera was Eric. He had already planned everything. He thought that the press conference would not be so strict with security, so he had casually disguised himself in preparation of releasing the video at the press conference.
However, he did not expect to be stopped by their receptionist. Now, they had even called this man, who was called "Special Assistant", over. So Eric turned around and wanted to leave.
