The Super Bodyguard of the Beautiful CEO
Chapter 1218 - 1233: Who Did It
Flowers bloom on two branches, each telling its own story. Back to Lin Mu: after he left the Fang Family, his mood wasn’t much better. Even though he’d just given that punk Tang Wu a good beating, there was still no clue at all. The car bomb case wasn’t Tang Wu’s doing, but aside from offending the Tang Family, who else would go after Lin Mu and Sophie?
To be fair, the people Lin Mu had really offended weren’t many, right? Especially here in Wancheng—no one really dared lay a hand on him. He thought it over again and again, and after a long while still couldn’t figure out who was behind this.
With the most likely suspect Tang Wu crossed off, there were only two suspicious parties left. One was the Iron Blood Corps, and the other was Uro Iji and the Jinye group. He’d already left the Iron Blood Corps to the old man to deal with, and they probably wouldn’t have the time or energy to come to Wancheng just to stir up trouble.
As for Uro Iji and Jinye, they didn’t seem too likely either. A few days had passed since the incident, but Huaxia was still investigating hard. If Uro Iji and Jinye showed up in Wancheng, they’d basically just be serving themselves up to be arrested!
Uro Iji and Jinye weren’t idiots; they definitely wouldn’t take such a huge risk. Even if they were going to come, they’d wait till things quieted down. Ruling out these two suspicious targets, Lin Mu really had no clue who did it. Was this what they called "a big tree attracts the wind," just his damn luck?
Right at that moment, Lin Mu’s phone rang again. It was Sophie calling.
"Hey, Feifei." Lin Mu greeted her.
"Got anything on your side yet?" Sophie asked.
"No, but I’m sure it wasn’t Tang Wu. Someone else is behind it." Lin Mu said.
"I’ve got a small lead here. Come over to Yunhai Mansion." Sophie said.
"Alright, I’ll be right there." Lin Mu replied.
Lin Mu drove straight to Yunhai Mansion and arrived at the front entrance in just over ten minutes. The place had already returned to its usual calm. Even though the explosion had caused quite a stir, Yunhai Mansion was the strongest player in Wancheng, and they were damn good at handling incidents. Plus, with Qi Manlin as bureau chief, they’d managed to dodge the media’s full-on pursuit and hype.
Lin Mu entered Yunhai Mansion, found Sophie working in her office, and then, under her lead, they went together to the monitoring room of Yunhai Mansion.
"Weren’t the surveillance systems damaged?" Lin Mu asked.
"The regular surveillance was damaged, but there’s a high-definition camera on the rooftop. Most people don’t even know it exists." Sophie said.
"Damn, that high-tech? It can still see clearly from over a hundred meters away?" Lin Mu asked.
"Of course, or why do you think I bothered to install it?" Sophie chuckled.
They went into the monitoring room, and Sophie had a few security guards pull up the footage. The camera was indeed powerful. As the guard slowly zoomed back, the picture was still clear, and they could lock onto the exact spot where the explosion had happened.
The guard set the footage to an hour before the blast, then slowly fast-forwarded. Soon, a human figure showed up in the building’s surveillance. The guy wore only a baseball cap, dressed in totally ordinary clothes, nothing disguised, so at a glance he wouldn’t attract any attention.
After walking a circle around the car, the man looked around, then crouched down under the car. Because the car blocked the view, it created a blind spot, so they couldn’t see clearly. But whether or not the picture was clear, the fact he appeared there at that time said enough.
"Looks like this dumbass is our guy." Lin Mu said as he watched the footage.
"You know him?" Sophie asked.
"I looked carefully. Never seen him before, don’t recognize him at all, not even a hint of familiarity." Lin Mu shook his head. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"I don’t know him either. We definitely haven’t messed with him. It’s really strange—who could he be?" Sophie asked.
"Most likely someone sent him. If we want to know who’s behind it, it’s easy—just find this guy." Lin Mu said.
"Wancheng is so big. Where do we even start?" Sophie said.
"Heh, that’s the easy part. I’m not your old little bodyguard anymore. Now, in this little patch of Wancheng, as long as someone’s in the game, I can get them to move. This idiot’s got to have a place to stay in Wancheng, right? Just have people run a sweep. I don’t believe we can’t dig him out." Lin Mu said confidently.
When it came to finding people, Lin Mu really was pretty confident now. Wancheng was big, but for crooks looking for a safe hideout, it was actually pretty hard. All the major hotels required ID registration, and with the Chief Police Officer pulling police records, those places were easy to check.
"Alright then, you have to find this man as soon as possible. He’s our only lead." Sophie said.
Lin Mu nodded. "I’ll get on it right away."
Lin Mu called Huo Yanggen and told him to mobilize the Heaven and Earth Society’s forces to search everywhere, plus the other major gang factions. Then he called Qi Manlin, explained the situation, and left the hotels and inns to the police. Just like that, an invisible net slowly spread over the city.
For the next stretch of time, Lin Mu just waited for news. This was also a real test—to see whether he really had full control over every inch of Wancheng.
The entire afternoon slipped by, but there was no word at all from either Qi Manlin or Huo Yanggen. Lin Mu was seriously annoyed. With so many people, including the cops and the underground world combined, they still couldn’t find one small fry?
Just as Lin Mu was stewing over it, his phone rang. He couldn’t help getting excited. A glance at the number—Qi Manlin. Did the Chief Police Officer finally have something? He quickly picked up.
"Hey, police beauty, got anything?" Lin Mu asked anxiously.
"No. We’ve been looking all afternoon. Big and small hotels, guesthouses—we checked them all. Nothing." The Chief Police Officer sounded pretty frustrated too.
Hearing that, Lin Mu was frustrated as well. Looked like if the police couldn’t find him, he’d have to count on Huo Yanggen.
"Alright, then stop for now. Go home and rest. It’s been a whole afternoon, you must be beat." Lin Mu could hear how exhausted she was. Honestly, he felt bad for her. Ever since Qi Manlin became bureau chief, she’d been taking everything on herself, big or small.
"Okay. When are you coming home?" Qi Manlin asked.
"I’ll wait a bit longer for news." Lin Mu said.
"Alright, I’m heading back. If you’re tired, come home early and rest too." Qi Manlin said.
"Mm, got it."
Lin Mu hung up, pulled out a cigarette, and lit it. Damn it, he really didn’t believe this. With the Heaven and Earth Society so powerful, plus Wancheng’s Underground Alliance, what, was this guy going to fly up to heaven or something?
Just then, Lin Mu’s phone rang again. This time it was Huo Yanggen.
"Got anything?" Lin Mu asked as soon as he picked up.
