the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart
Chapter 1174: Leah, You Were Always My Wife
Home? Which home? Leah leaned against the wall, a flicker of fire passing through her almond-shaped eyes, and asked word by word: "Three years ago, was it you who sent someone to distract Griffith Squire to Europe?"
"Yes." The man admitted without thinking, his voice dry and deep, "Back then, he misunderstood me greatly. I intended to send him away for a while and build a relationship with you."
"Why cultivate a relationship with me? Because I look like your ex-wife?" Leah pressed on, asked coldly.
Richard Shaw’s gaze deepened, instantly realizing she hadn’t remembered the past, and Griffith Squire had clearly deliberately kept it hidden from her.
The man stepped forward, his scorching palm tightly gripping her arm, his handsome and cold face leaned down, speaking word by word: "Leah, you don’t just look like my ex-wife, you are my wife. You were born in the Imperial City, we had an engagement since childhood, you married me when you were eighteen, but due to an accident, Griffith took you away. He stole you from me, did you know?"
The man clearly revealed the truth hidden for many years, his tea-colored eyes watching her, emotions unknown swirling beneath.
It was Griffith who stole her from him. If he had stayed in the cabin and not gone to the South Seas, who knows how many years they might have missed.
Leah was shaken by his words, her whole body trembling, incredulously saying, "Impossible."
How could she be Richard Shaw’s ex-wife, she had always lived with Griffith in the Golden Triangle.
"You lost your past memory, didn’t you? You can’t remember anything; Griffith lied to you, Leah, you are mine." The man spoke resolutely, his gaze deep, pressing a key into her hand and said in a low voice,
"There’s a room locked for years in the cabin, all your past is in that room. Once you see it, you’ll know everything."
Leah’s face turned pale, her mind flooded with information, it all seemed absurd, how could this be, but somehow, a voice inside her seemed to say, Richard Shaw was telling the truth, he had no reason to lie about this.
"You always liked being alone, and in the Imperial City, you didn’t have many friends, only interacted more with the Howard Family. Haven’t you met Hawk Howard? Whether it’s the Shaw Family or the Howard Family, or Griffith, if you ask them, they’ll tell you, you are my wife." Richard Shaw exhaled deeply, saying, "Casimir recognized you immediately, because he grew up looking at your photos, he knows what his mom looks like."
Leah’s face grew pale, pushing him away. She quickly tried calling Griffith, but she hung up as soon as it dialed out.
She clenched her phone, looking at the man’s cold and resolute eyes, furious, she said: "Why didn’t you say anything when you saw me before? These past years, you never mentioned it, were you deceiving me from the start?"
Richard Shaw’s complexion grew somber and pale, his body tense, he said in a low voice, "Besides not telling you your identity, I didn’t deceive you about anything else."
"Go out, I want to be alone quietly." Leah turned her eyes away, clenching her phone and pressing her fingertips against the wall, using all her strength to keep herself from breaking down.
Everyone around her knew her identity, knew her past, except her.
"You can ask me anything you want to know, I’ll come by later." Richard Shaw gave her a deep look, then turned and went out the door. Watching the cold wind raging outside, feeling a bit uneasy, he called Delphine Carter to check on Leah.
The man waited outside until Delphine brought Nicholas Carter and Benjamin Leclair back home, then he instructed Squeaky to head to the Military District. Griffith’s return was causing everything to shift in an unpredictable direction.
Richard Shaw didn’t know whether this move was right or wrong; ever since he decided to resume his position in the Military District, he intended to set things right.
Delphine brought the two little ones to play at the Howard Family’s house. Soon, Ignatius Leclair needed to take Benjamin back to the South Seas, so she tried to squeeze in time to be with Benjamin.
When she returned home, she saw Leah sitting on the sofa, her eyes a bit red. Recalling Richard Shaw’s call, she was startled and asked: "Leah, what happened?"
"Auntie, why are you unhappy? Benjamin gives you a lollipop, sweet sweet." Benjamin Leclair had changed into his little slippers, ran over with a thud, and generously offered his treasured possession.
Leah snapped back to reality, she looked at Delphine and the two adorable kids, stood up, patted Benjamin’s little head, took her lollipop, kissed her little cheek, and suddenly thought of Casimir Shaw. If Casimir truly was her child born ten months after conceiving him, hasn’t he been without his mother all these years?
Her heart clenched slightly, chaotic and messy.
"Richard Shaw called me. When I came back, I saw his car. Leah, what happened?" Delphine let the little ones play on their own, then looked out the window. Richard Shaw’s Hummer was indeed gone.
Leah reached out to hold her hand, not knowing where to start. She was still immersed in shock, unable to recover.
"Delphine, I might know my past now, but I have to wait until Griffith comes back to confirm." She thought carefully before saying.
"Does it have to do with the Shaw Family?" Delphine recalled the hints Ignatius had disclosed, considering someone like Richard Shaw, who would go such lengths for a late wife, and now suddenly pursued Leah closely, Delphine had vague suspicions, yet because it was such a serious matter, it wasn’t voiced openly.
Leah nodded.
"Leah, honestly, what happened in the past isn’t important, what matters is now and the future." She patted her hand, slightly smiling, saying, "Just follow your heart."
Leah’s eyes clouded for a moment, sighed softly, and said: "Delphine, it’s like when huge things come to you, they become small as dust."
She knew Richard Shaw told her about this wanting her to choose him over Griffith between the sibling bond they shared. That man claimed they shared a marital bond.
"I need to go out for a bit, I’ll be back by evening." Leah squinted slightly, needing to visit the cabin.
"Should I go with you? I can have Ignatius come to take care of the kids." Delphine felt uneasy.
Leah shook her head, saying: "No need, I’m just going to Richard Shaw’s cabin to find some things, I’ll be back soon."
Leah drove to the suburban outskirts cabin, pushed open the gate, and entered the house. The owner had been away for a while, and the fire in the hearth had burned out, though still warm; a cold draft blew in, bringing a chill.
Leah found the tightly locked room, used the key Richard Shaw had given her, opened the door, and went inside.
