Chapter 77: Annoying Count

Adrian’s blood went completely cold.

A single knight was hard enough to handle. A Hero that could mass produce them with a touch was a terrifying tactical advantage.

"Is it possible to infiltrate this city?" Adrian asked. "Can we check the place where the Hero summoned you?"

"We were the only fighting force left inside." The knight nodded. "The main army was camping outside but you got most of them already. You can easily go in and do whatever you want."

Adrian looked at his troops. "We are going inside."

Before he started walking, Claire stepped forward and pulled the spear out of his shoulder.

Adrian winced and grabbed a thick roll of cloth before giving it to Claire. She folded it into multiple layers and packed it extremely tight against both sides of the piercing wound. She tied it well and it still hurt, but it was manageable.

They marched straight to the enemy town with the captured knights leading the way.

The streets were completely empty, and soon, the knights pointed to a massive mansion near the center square. At first glance, it looked totally normal.

Adrian walked inside and the entire mansion was empty for some weird reason. The knights led them down a hidden stone staircase, bringing them to a massive underground cavern.

A glowing magical altar sat in the center of the room and multiple wooden shelves lined the walls, packed with summoning scrolls and magical books.

Adrian had a bad feeling so he decided that it was not a good choice to stay here for long.

He placed his hand on the first bookshelf and the entire shelf vanished.

He walked up to the heavy stone altar and sent the massive structure straight into his dimensional storage. He literally emptied the whole underground room.

"Retreat." Adrian ordered.

They marched back toward the Vaneira border camp. The return journey took three long weeks, which was two weeks less than what it took to get to the enemy camp.

By the time they saw the allied tents, Adrian’s wound was slightly healed, but he still went straight to Celeste’s tent.

She peeled the bandages off and took a close look at it.

"The wound has dried up..." Celeste said grimly. "But your bone is shattered and you are literally missing a chunk of flesh. There is a hole in your shoulder."

She brewed a basic potion for him. "This will help for now, but you’ll need something better."

"Will the green potion help?" Adrian asked.

"Not really." Celeste shook her head. "But it is mostly used to repair and strengthen tissues and bones. If you are missing a huge chunk of flesh and bone, that is not a good way to heal yourself."

She wrote down a short list of ingredients.

"Bring me these." Celeste said. "I plan on making you a high-grade healing potion. After drinking that, you will need to eat a lot of quality food."

Adrian nodded and put his shirt back on before walking to the main command tent.

General Vekar was studying a map.

"I have one hundred enemy soldiers." Adrian announced. "I am keeping them for myself."

Vekar nodded. "Fine. That is your spoil of war."

"I found out why they wanted an all-out war." Adrian leaned against the table. "Avarice kingdom has managed to summon a Hero."

Vekar froze as he stared at Adrian.

A Hero was a legend. It was a myth that was never confirmed to be true.

"Are you messing around?" Vekar narrowed his eyes.

"The Hero has the ability to turn any person into a knight." Adrian pointed outside. "Those one hundred knights I captured? They were turned into knights by the Hero."

Vekar was literally in shock. At first, he could just ignore the rumor, but now, there was proof right in front of his eyes.

The general leaned against the table. He brought his hand to his face and let out an exaggerated sigh.

"This is news that needs to be sent to the Emperor as soon as possible." Vekar muttered.

"I just took on a really dangerous mission." Adrian said, not caring about the general’s problems. "I got attacked by five hundred knights. I only managed to survive because we were in the forest and they were using spears. It was literally a stroke of luck."

Adrian crossed his arms.

"I would like to get your permission to go back to my territory and recover." Adrian listed his excuses. "My soldiers are injured and they are not in the right mental state. On top of that, I brought you all of this important information. Do you not think I need a break?"

Vekar sighed. "It does make sense."

Adrian had indeed succeeded in two extremely important missions with a small force.

"Fine." Vekar nodded. "I can send you back."

Count Frankenstein suddenly walked into the tent.

"Who gave you the permission to send him back?" The Count sneered before glaring at Vekar.

"You are just a general." The Count spat. "The one who has the power to give those orders is the Marchioness herself. Shut the fuck up."

"I am a noble." The Count continued. "You are nothing but a general."

The two of them started arguing loudly. Adrian just stood there, wanting nothing more but to get out of the room.

The Count suddenly turned to look at Adrian.

"You know what?" The Count smirked. "This general does not have the right to send you back. Based on the level of power our titles give, I have the highest rank in this army right now."

The Count pointed a fat finger at him.

"I order you to fucking stay." The Count demanded. "You do not have the luxury to go back. It is your duty to serve."

Adrian stared at the smug noble.

"You know what? Fine." Adrian said calmly.

He did not say anything else and walked right out of the tent.

He had zero plans of staying. He had a way to get the Count to stick his fat finger up his own ass.
