Chapter 193: Amnesiac Youth

"So you’re saying, Drake doesn’t remember you?" Thorne crossed his arms, leaning lazily against the mottled wall of the bamboo house.

He tilted his head slightly, casting a brief glance at Drake, who sat on the bamboo bed with his back to everyone. A dark glint flashed in his deep green pupils.

Julian’s expression was grave, his voice low. "It’s not just me he doesn’t remember. He doesn’t remember anyone."

Caden Albright’s brow furrowed slightly. His amber eyes rested on Drake for a moment before he turned to Lachlan. "Have you called for Eva?"

Lachlan nodded lightly, glancing at Drake with a hint of worry. "We already did."

Thorne glanced outside. The harsh sunlight fell across his grim brow, making his vertical, deep green pupils seem even colder.

He scoffed, his voice tight with suppressed anger as he seemed to grind his teeth. "Hah. This fish... He always pretends to be so harmless. Eva is carrying a hatchling, and yet he can’t even be bothered to care about her. He has no sense of priority!"

A momentary silence fell over the room.

The males fell into their own silent thoughts, the air thick with an obscure, gloomy mood.

But Julian, as if protesting his innocence too much, gave two soft coughs. His eyes darted about, and a faint blush crept up the tips of his ears, spreading an unnatural flush across his handsome face.

Thorne narrowed his vertical, deep green pupils, eyeing him with suspicion. Just as he was about to demand an explanation, he caught a glimpse of a familiar, slender figure in crimson out of the corner of his eye.

"Eva!" Thorne whipped his head around, but froze stiff when he saw the newborn in Danton’s arms.

He shot straight up, sucking in a sharp breath as if struck by lightning. "Eva gave birth last night?!" he exclaimed in shock.

The end of his sentence even quivered slightly.

His words sent shockwaves through the room.

Every male in the house snapped their gaze to Evangeline, and the air seemed to freeze.

Caden Albright’s eyes first fell on the center of Evangeline’s forehead, then shifted to the newborn in Danton’s arms.

He strode forward, and his long fingers gently parted the corner of the swaddling clothes. His amber eyes flickered as he got a clear look at the newborn’s face, and a smile touched his voice. "Hatched last night? Bunny will be thrilled to know."

Danton nodded, his expression softening completely as he lowered his gaze to the newborn in his arms.

This little one was a good eater and a deep sleeper; he hadn’t even woken up yet.

His little face was rosy and puffed, rising and falling with his breath. There was no sign that he had endured a great ordeal while in his mother’s womb.

Evangeline stepped slowly into the bamboo house, her narrow eyes passing over the others to land directly on Drake, who was on the bamboo bed.

He sat there quietly, his back straight, his pale, long fingers resting on his knees. His gaze was fixed outside the window as if watching the clouds drift by. The noise in the bamboo house didn’t affect him in the slightest; it was as if the others were nothing but air.

And Drake clearly had no desire to speak with them, having sealed himself off in a world of his own.

She retracted her gaze and looked at Julian, who was standing to the side. "He woke up yesterday. Why didn’t you call me?"

Julian’s body went rigid. His gilded pupils darted around, and he swallowed hard.

He took a deep breath, avoiding her eyes, and said in a heavy voice, "My brother doesn’t remember anyone, including me. And you. Is there a way you can make him remember again?"

Thorne cast a lazy glance at the newborn in the swaddling clothes, let out a soft huff through his nose, and casually turned his face away.

’I remember every grudge, new and old, against The Everwake,’ he thought. ’Don’t expect this little brat to get the same treatment as Bunny.’

’Besides, this one’s a male. How could he possibly compare to a sweet, soft little female?’

Hearing Julian’s words, Thorne sneered, a playful tone lacing the end of his words. "Make him remember? Weren’t all those old memories a form of torture for him? Since he’s forgotten, it might as well be a good thing."

As his words fell, his voice suddenly turned cold. "However, whether he’s truly forgotten or just pretending... that’s another matter entirely."

As he spoke, his dangerous gaze swept over Drake, filled with a cold, scrutinizing light.

’The cautionary tale of Loras is still fresh in my mind. I have to remain vigilant against these males who have suddenly returned. I can’t let what happened at the tribal trade meet be repeated. There’s no telling if Drake is just playing dumb, plotting to harm my female!’

Julian’s eyes turned icy, and his knuckles went white as he clenched his fists. Staring at Thorne, he demanded, "What are you trying to say?"

Thorne curled his lip and walked to Evangeline’s side. He wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her back a few steps.

His fingertips gently caressed the side of Evangeline’s waist, his voice laced with a casual danger. "You don’t know what I mean? For all we know, you two brothers harbor a grudge, but knowing revenge is hopeless, you resort to these petty little tricks instead."

To the side, Lachlan’s eyelashes trembled almost imperceptibly as he silently looked toward Drake and Julian.

Every word from Thorne’s mouth was a source of immense pain for him, because he had witnessed it all firsthand.

Even though Drake was injured and ended up like this while saving him, he couldn’t say a single word in their defense. If anything happened to Eva, even sacrificing his own life would not be enough to atone for it.

Danton’s arms, holding the newborn, tightened. His gaze, however, was fixed on Evangeline.

He didn’t speak, only gave Evangeline a worried glance.

He knew better than anyone that the Eva of today was not the cruel, ruthless female she once was—the one who took pleasure in tormenting males.

’She will definitely save Drake.’

The thought spread silently through Danton’s heart, carrying with it a sense of certainty, yet mixed with an indescribable complexity.

Caden Albright’s amber eyes shifted slightly, and he silently moved to stand on Evangeline’s other side.

He shot Thorne a sideways glance. ’That snake is usually cold and menacing, his gaze always filled with hostility. But on this matter, he’s right. Whether Drake’s amnesia is real or fake, we can’t gamble with our female’s safety.’

After all, the incident with Loras was still a thorn in everyone’s side. Who could guarantee that Drake’s amnesia wasn’t just another hidden deception?

Julian looked at everyone’s attitudes, suppressed fury churning in his eyes.

He turned his head to Evangeline, his voice hoarse and heavy. "You said you would save my brother. Is this how you save him? By making him forget everything? By turning him into a weakling who has erased his own past?"

Of course, he knew those memories were a torment to his brother, a source of agony. But no matter how painful, they were a brand etched into his very bones. To simply forget, to escape, to live another life—that wasn’t the way of The Goldeagle Clan.

Evangeline watched Drake quietly for a moment, then said, "All of you, leave first. I’m going to stay with him alone for a while."

Thorne’s pupils contracted into thin slits. A hostile aura flared around him, and his voice was filled with disapproval. "No!"

"Just for a little while," Evangeline said, looking up at Thorne, her enchanting voice full of gentleness.

Thorne’s Adam’s apple bobbed violently. He frowned at his female, a vein throbbing along his neck and down to his collarbone. After a long moment, he looked up at Julian and hissed through clenched teeth, "You, come out with us!"

’I can’t leave these two brothers in the same room with Eva,’ he thought. ’It’s too dangerous.’
