...

"A demon?" The word came involuntarily from the mouths there.

"That's a story for children, isn't it?", many of them murmured, even the sorcerers, whispering to one another. They had never heard of such a creature actually existing.

They were only mentioned in stories to make them macabre.

"Is that true?", Coral turned to Triss curiously and asked.

Triss merely nodded. Although she had never seen such a demon, she believed in Madara — and everything that had happened — made sense through the existence of this creature.

Even the knights seemed somewhat disturbed by that, whispering to one another. Some appeared incredulous and mocked, perhaps thinking it could be a distraction, but no one had the courage to say it out loud in front of the kings.

'Look at them. They barely understand anything about the real world. None of them has lived like an isolated peasant in a village surrounded by monsters. They stay in their castles full of guards and sycophants, living off the wealth obtained from the people's taxes, and think they can understand anything about the world,' Ciri mocked telepathically. She despised these people.

She also did not understand the world as she thought she once did before the fall of Cintra, traveling, doing monster-hunting jobs, gave her more understanding of the world than living as the princess of Cintra.

Madara merely nodded, while observing the reaction of all the kings and queens. Most seemed incredulous, some making faces of fear.

He then began to speak again.

"In any case, this creature is not something as simple as something a witcher could hunt. You can even ask Geralt, who is behind me." Madara said.

"And what caused this creature to simply attack the human kingdoms, controlling... dragons?", Meve asked, curious. She did not seem to disbelieve the story, as she looked directly into Madara's eyes.

"She became enraged at a certain moment, when she was backed against the wall, and poured her powers directly into the Valley of Dragons, where she began to control a third of her creatures. She was in despair. Not even I imagined she could act in such a way," Madara said.

"Wait. You're saying that as if you provoked her. What exactly are you hiding from us?", the king of Kovir asked, while Madara was growing more irritated with this guy. His eyes turned cold toward the monarch.

"Can someone tell Emhyr's bootlicker that he can stop acting like a hysterical teenager?", Madara continued looking with a cold tone toward the Kovir bench.

"What did you say?", the man growled immediately, but his wife and the others from Kovir's council swallowed hard, looking at their king.

A man so intelligent for business, suddenly, was against the wall, crumbling, trying to blame Madara for something and, at the same time, turning him into a personal enemy. Could he really be so foolish as to try to make this guy his enemy when no one else in that room is supporting you?

Madara did not wait for anyone to speak and continued: "To tell the truth, this story of mine with this demon goes back a few years earlier. After we fled from Cintra, he appeared for the first time."

"I knew what he was from the beginning, which is why I was always stubborn. He appeared a second time in Redania, before we went to Skellige. He was watching me. And the third time he appeared was when our conflict began, it was after he tried to blackmail me. He wanted me to sign a contract with him, binding my soul to his, in search of the solution to a problem that I later resolved without his help. But he does not accept a simple 'no' as an answer. So, he intended to mark me anyway. After all, that demon wanted to have me as his personal soldier, as his dog. But I would never allow myself to be taken by such a creature," Madara said, with cold arrogance, pausing.

"In any case, I destroyed his body at the time, crushing him. I did not kill him, it required more than destroying his human body... He apparently hid in the Northern Mountains, near the dragons' own territory. I spent the last eight months trying to find a way to destroy him once and for all, since merely crushing his body would not work, if the true one was recovering elsewhere."

"When I found that way, I also undid one of the contracts he had with a man in Redania. That left him desperate and enraged. That was when all the chaos began."

"He controlled the dragons and unleashed them against the human world. That was when it all began that night..." he finished.

"And how did you deal with such a creature, Lord Madara?", Thorne asked from the side.

"The method I found to finish him worked. I managed to seal him. Although I did not destroy him completely, he will never be a problem again. Before that, I had to deal with the dragons, both in the human world and by going to their realm. I fought against dozens. If you want to know, I had never killed a dragon before, despite having already been in their realm and dealt with some, like the rumors that arose in Redania about dragons looking for me a year ago. ", Madara said.

"I do not want to provoke anything further, but you caused chaos in our kingdoms because of your battle against that creature. Everyone in my kingdom now hates dragons. Although they are rare creatures, they have become highly despised," King Henselt said.

"The dragons were only controlled. But, if you want a war against them, that is fine. I will not interfere on either side. If you provoke it and are massacred..." Madara mocked.

"That is provocation!", Henselt shot back.

"Provocation? The creature wanted me to become its soldier. Just imagine: a demon being my boss, giving me orders. Does that sound more appealing to you, King Henselt, than facing a few dragons? Your kingdom was not even attacked, I know there were casualties in Kovir, Kaedwen and Lyria, people died because of this. But, in the same way that you can blame me for provoking a demon that was trying to harm people important to me and control me, we can also blame the king of Kovir for the gold he gave to Nilfgaard, helping to kill thousands of northerners both in Cintra, Sodden and in the sea to the west... And he bears even more guilt than I do," Madara provoked, looking directly at the king of Kovir, who clenched his teeth at that moment.

"In truth, your actions killed far more people than mine. While a few hundred died because of the dragons, you must have caused at least tens of thousands of deaths..." Madara added.

"You also contributed to the destruction of Cintra!", Ciri spoke this time, at Madara's side, staring at the king of Kovir with hatred. "We will never forget that."

Madara observed the reaction of the kings. Those who had expected to create an alliance against him no longer seemed as enthusiastic as at the beginning. He saw that Tissaia was about to speak, but he raised his hand for her to stop.

"Before we continue, I want to make one thing very clear. I know the true purpose of this meeting. You want to try to restrain me, to control me, to dissolve the Akatsuki, to limit my powers. But I will say something: that will not be possible. I will never allow myself to bow my head to any of you. And, as I said before, if you want a conflict, very well. If you want to strike from the shadows, I will find a way to discover who did it. And I will not be merciful. It does not matter what kind of king or noble you are. If you hurt someone I cherish, I will show no mercy even to your family and everything you possess..." Madara said.

His eyes began to change. The Sharingan opened, spinning until it reached the third tomoe, as he stared at each of the kings.

"He cannot use those eyes! He can control us with that!", the king of Kovir said immediately, expecting Tissaia to do something. There was a rule that Madara should not use the Sharingan there, even so, he used it.

"Do not worry. I am not here to control you. But, if you see me using these eyes next time... I can say that I will not be very lenient," Madara spoke calmly, before closing the Sharingan.

He cast no genjutsu and did nothing. He merely stared at each of the kings, who shrank under his gaze. No one seemed arrogant anymore; many immediately looked away.

"Just look him in the eyes, you fool, and you can stop screaming," Dijkstra said, from the Redanian podium.

Madara could see the concern in everyone's eyes. They wanted to limit his power, as if placing a collar on a dog. These fools truly thought they could handle him. Madara merely shook his head.

"HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" Then someone began to laugh loudly.

Madara looked toward the podium of Lyria and Rivia, where Queen Meve was openly laughing.

"Well, you are certainly the only one who can threaten all the kings of the North as if it were nothing. You have guts, boy. I still keep my word: as long as you do not harm my kingdom, I will have nothing against you. In fact, we should thank you for not letting Nilfgaard pass through Sodden. That would have been a much greater problem for all of us," she said.

Madara nodded, then looked at Tissaia, who realized that no one else seemed willing to speak, although the king of Kovir was visibly frustrated at his bench.

"Well, I believe the matter regarding the reason for the dragons' attack has been explained. But I wonder, my kings and queens: do you intend to do anything about it?", Tissaia asked, wanting to close the matter.

"Perhaps we should take revenge on those dragons. I will send a force to the Northern Mountains," the king of Kovir declared.

"I agree with you," the king of Kaedwen also said after a long time in silence, as he had barely spoken. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"If you allow me to speak...", Madara raised his voice. "I think this matter should die here. A war against the dragons will bring nothing good to you. And, believe me, the dragons have the power to destroy entire kingdoms."

"How many dragons are we talking about, more or less?", the king of Redania asked, concerned.

"Before the conflict, there were at least two thousand dragons in the valley. Now there are around one thousand four hundred left. Most may be wounded or incapacitated after that night, but there are still dragons."

Murmurs spread through the hall.

"Two hundred of them would already be more than enough to wipe out an entire kingdom in a few minutes... Any kingdom of the North would be lost," Madara completed.

"But we cannot leave things as they are!", said the king of Verden.

"Your kingdom was not attacked, King of Verden... You live in the south, yet you want the Northern kingdoms to attack the mountains?", Tissaia questioned.

The man shrank when confronted.

"Fools..." Madara snorted. Even among themselves they tried to turn against one another, seeking to harm their neighbor.

"In any case, leave the dragons aside. The Valley of Dragons is far beyond human reach. It would take months for anyone to travel there, due to the mountain routes, not to mention the monsters and creatures that inhabit the path. Imagine marching with an army and facing dragons in their own territory...? They are rarely seen and barely interact with the human world precisely because it is extremely difficult to reach them."

Madara looked at them all once more.

"You truly do not want to provoke a war against those who stand at the top of the food chain among all creatures."

"You speak as if they could rule the entire continent," the king of Caingorn spoke up for the first time, snorting.

"You say that because you have never seen a dragon," Madara replied coldly. "They are dozens of meters long. They would make you look like an ant. As I said, two hundred of them are more than enough to destroy a kingdom in the blink of an eye. But just a dozen could already decimate armies, although it would take longer than with hundreds. They have never cared about the world below the mountains. That is why it is wise not to provoke them." Madara made that clear.

The kings seemed thoughtful at those words.

None of them spoke again. They merely agreed silently. If that man was saying this, why not reflect and take his words seriously?

Tissaia could not help but sigh. At the beginning, Madara had become a threat to the Northern kingdoms, back when Cintra fell and they finally spoke of a boy with strength and 'magical' abilities, special ones. Now, ironically, he was someone who needed to protect the continent from the foolishness of these kings and queens before they did something truly stupid.

'What a contrast,' she thought. At first, she saw him as an imminent danger. Now, she was more inclined to align with him than to oppose him.
