This Is Not a Bug but a Game Feature
Chapter 398 - 252: What Is a Metaphysical Mechanic?
The Divination System is out, but it hasn’t been tested yet.
To be precise, it hasn’t undergone a formal code reliability and stability test yet, though Chen Ba and Lu have privately tested it several times.
The results naturally were normal!
Chen Ba wasn’t surprised at all by this result, his mind was completely calm.
"Honestly..."
"Maybe we should just scrap this testing process? We never find any issues, it just wastes time."
Lu mumbled: "We spend forever testing, but barely find any bugs, and those we do find are small ones. The really tricky game bugs rely on players to dig them up."
What is this stuff?
Same thing every time, it’s making Lu feel a bit unsure, gradually doubting his own capabilities.
He doesn’t think he’s dumb, he even feels he might be smarter than Ba and Dong, yet when it comes to testing new games, he’s always getting criticized by Ba.
Once or twice is nothing, could be an accident or oversight.
But when it keeps happening, every new game the studio launches, he gets a reprimand; who can tolerate that?
"What are you talking about?"
Chen Ba said irritably: "What game company deletes the testing phase? Even chefs have to check the seasoning, and you’re this confident about a new game?"
"With other people’s new games, maybe I’m not as confident, I might test them more times. But Ba, with your new games, I’m absolutely confident!"
"Thank you, oh..."
Chen Ba nearly choked on Lu’s words—what does it mean to be absolutely confident about his games? Does this confidence mean there will definitely be bugs?
Twisting his words to imply he’s a bug generator, does he think he can’t hear it?
No matter what.
Game testing is definitely a step that cannot be skipped, whether useful or not, it must be kept.
Even though at Tianba Studio, testing new games and finding potential bugs is likely just busywork, but what if a blind cat catches a dead rat?
Testing must go on, the classic joke about ordering fried rice in a bar needs to continue!
Of course.
Lu is indeed having a tough time, because finding potential game bugs during testing is really difficult.
After all, staff at the studio is limited, and Chen Ba cannot rest the entire responsibility for unknown bugs on him. The reason he criticizes him is purely because he has high expectations, hoping he can make progress.
"Playing workplace PUA, huh?"
Lu doesn’t buy it, rolls his eyes and says: "You pay the salary, so of course you call the shots, who else but a poor, helpless worker like us?"
"Alright, go test the game."
Chen Ba couldn’t take his pitiful look, waved his hand and said: "I won’t scold you this time, just don’t cry from fear."
Mountain Village Memories is quite a scary game, especially after hiring out for sinister music, the atmosphere is perfect!
Have you seen horror movies?
Before the eerie and evil appear, isn’t there always a particularly oppressive segment, with rapidly dense drumbeats?
Exactly!
The game music for Mountain Village Memories is just like in horror films, combined with the ultra-realistic graphics of the Dream Building Engine, the atmosphere and immersion can only be described with six words: chills down your spine!
But the game isn’t all positives.
The impressive graphics, sinister music, and the magical Divination System are indeed striking, but compared to similar games, the level design and puzzle elements are a bit awkward.
The game plot is divided into several parts.
The first part is the protagonist Hu Xi returns to the village, senses something strange with the villagers, and begins to investigate. The second part upgrades the clues, further expanding the mystery as he explores other villagers’ homes.
The third part is the scariest and most difficult to accept, during which many scenes and visuals might make people have nightmares, and even reach the level of physical discomfort.
"Why is the blood black?"
"Of course it’s black!"
The art designer responsible for this part explained: "For one, red blood is hard to get past scrutiny, so the original color can’t be used. Secondly, black blood highlights the game’s abnormal phenomena, suggesting these villagers are no longer human."
The first reason is easily understood.
To avoid red lines, many games do this now, with blue and green blood appearing constantly, it’s difficult to see normal blood colors.
As for the second reason, after pondering, Chen Ba also found it reasonable.
According to the plot setting and game background, these villagers of Santong Village are actually possessed by evil spirits, having become undead "living dead."
The protagonist ventures out at night to find clues, and the mysterious creatures he encounters are villagers revealing their true form.
From this perspective, if you kill these monsters, the black bloodstains seen in the village are understandable, since these beings can no longer be considered living humans.
Besides the black blood, the game’s monsters have other traits, which is that their bodies exist between "physical" and "spiritual."
What does this mean?
It means these villagers in Santong Village, when they reveal their true form at night, turn into mindless and emotionless monsters, conventional attacks may fail on them.
"Dad said to fight magic with magic! So in the game, the items used to counter these evil creatures have a mystical, mysterious flair."
Chen Ba explained: "For example, Child’s urine!"
"Ah?!!"
As soon as this was said, the entire office was stunned, everyone looked at Ba, wanting to confirm if they heard wrong.
