Her hand was suddenly wrapped in his. Aurelia Shaw froze for a moment, then turned back and smiled at Mason Nightshade. "What is it?"

Seeing her act like she always did, a nameless weight lifted off Mason’s chest. He pulled her into his arms, rubbed her hair. "What are you thinking about?"

"About Jovana Shaw." Aurelia lowered her gaze, letting her long lashes hide the depths in her eyes.

Mason wasn’t an ordinary man. The slightest abnormality would trigger his suspicion.

All this time, she actually hadn’t realized he already knew she’d been reborn. Yet he could pretend nothing had happened. It showed just how deep his scheming ran.

"I promised I’d give her a big gift."

"Perfect. I’ve prepared a big gift for her too."

Aurelia lifted her eyes to look at Mason, confusion in her gaze. Mason smiled, indulgent and doting. "I thought you couldn’t be bothered to dirty your hands with this bunch, so I helped you prepare a little something. No idea if it’ll come in handy, though."

When they came back, Jovana Shaw was just walking down the spiral staircase. The whole room was sunk in darkness, with a single beam of light trained on her. She wore a red backless dress and red diamond-studded heels.

Anyone familiar with Aurelia could tell at a glance this was the look she liked: that flamboyant red that made her even more stunning and alluring. A brazen aura, a brazen outfit, paired with that cold, proud face.

Jovana wanted to imitate Aurelia, but she usually played the cute, innocent style. Suddenly switching to a flamboyant, sexy style made her look awkward and out of place.
