Top-Tier Female, All Beastmen Want Her
Chapter 160: Rescued
Looking at Gu Yao’s face, Jiang Zheyu thought that one’s personality really did determine one’s looks. It was the same face, but Gu Yao had seemed morbidly ill. Now that it was someone else, he looked exceptionally attractive.
Her gaze lingered, focused on his face.
Jiang Yi paused, then slowly raised a hand to cover her eyes. His voice was soft. "Don’t remember this face."
This was the face of a Star Thief, and Jiang Yi didn’t want her to grow fond of it.
Jiang Zheyu’s long lashes fluttered. She nodded in agreement. "I can tell the difference. You’re not him."
A soft chuckle sounded from above her head.
"I’m going to jump from here in a moment. Don’t be afraid," Jiang Yi instructed. He placed his hands on her shoulders and turned her around so her back was to him. "This is the body of a Star Thief’s Biorobot. You don’t need to feel sorry for it."
After saying this, Jiang Yi let go of Jiang Zheyu’s arms. He leaned straight back and plummeted from the top of the tall building.
Jiang Zheyu felt a cool breeze brush past her shoulders, a gust stirred up by his fall.
She understood what he was doing: throwing the Biorobot’s body down to destroy it.
Still, Jiang Zheyu couldn’t help but worry. ’If he doesn’t withdraw his spiritual power link in time, will he feel what it’s like to die? Wouldn’t that be a horrible form of torture?’
The wind atop the high-rise was strong and cool.
Then, a chaotic clamor echoed from below the high-rise.
Jiang Zheyu knew the Biorobot had finally hit the ground.
She wiped away the cold sweat on her forehead, which felt damp in the breeze. As another gust of wind blew past, she couldn’t help but shiver.
’Was that person possessing Gu Yao’s Biorobot just now... Jiang Yi?’
Deep down, Jiang Zheyu felt it was him. The feeling she got from the Biorobot was the exact same feeling she got from Jiang Yi.
But doubt crept back into her mind.
’For Jiang Yi to be able to link with this Biorobot, his true Beastman body must be somewhere near Gu Yao and the others.’
Jiang Zheyu had no idea her line of thinking was completely off track.
She would never have imagined that Jiang Yi was actually a string of self-aware data code. As long as data existed somewhere, he could be there.
Originally, Jiang Yi had already severed the data stream of Gu Yao’s spiritual power connection to the Biorobot and had also changed the Hovercar’s destination.
The Hovercar would have taken Jiang Zheyu safely back to the Imperial Palace.
But the Hovercar’s irreversible self-destruct function disrupted his plan.
Thus, Jiang Yi had no choice but to establish a data link with Gu Yao’s Biorobot.
There was no way Jiang Zheyu could have ever guessed any of this.
From the start, she had never even considered that he could be data, and now her thoughts were straying even further from the truth.
’Now, what is the relationship between Jiang Yi and Gu Yao’s group? How else could he link up with their Biorobot bodies?’
A loud roar echoed through the sky.
It was a fleet of Imperial Army Hovercars arriving. They hovered in the sky, their brilliant white searchlights sweeping back and forth.
"Princess Zheyu, are you alright? We’ve come to take you back to the Imperial Palace." The Guard Captain hurried out of the Hovercar. "You’ve been through a terrible ordeal. Hui has been captured and imprisoned. You don’t have to worry."
Jiang Zheyu couldn’t care less about Hui right now. ’Where is Jiang Yi?’
Jiang Zheyu ignored him, her gaze sweeping past the captain, searching for any sign of Jiang Yi. But he was nowhere to be seen.
"Where’s Jiang Yi? My new housekeeper. Didn’t he come? Where is he now?" Jiang Zheyu looked at the Guard Captain beside her, the questions tumbling out in a rush.
Normally, Jiang Zheyu wouldn’t have wanted to ask about Jiang Yi’s identity. As long as he fulfilled his duties as her housekeeper, she had no need to pry into his background or his true Beastman identity. But now she had to. ’What is his relationship with those Star Thieves?’
The Guard Captain looked stunned for a moment before replying, "Housekeeper Jiang told us to come here and get you. He didn’t say where he was going. He should still be at the Imperial Palace, I imagine."
"Then let’s return to the Imperial Palace now." Jiang Zheyu fell silent for a moment, knowing she couldn’t rush things.
As she sat in the Hovercar, Jiang Zheyu recalled what the Guard Captain had said about Hui being imprisoned. She spoke up, asking, "He’s just locked up? Hasn’t he been punished?"
If he was just being held in a cell without any punishment, Jiang Zheyu wouldn’t stand for it.
’I absolutely cannot let that man get off easy.’
"We won’t know the punishment until the trial tomorrow. We will need you to be present then, Princess Zheyu," the Guard Captain told her.
Jiang Zheyu...
"Do I need to provide evidence or something?" Jiang Zheyu had no evidence at all. She had only overheard Hui’s Light Brain call with the Star Thieves, and she hadn’t managed to record it. With nothing to show, how could she possibly testify against him?
’Will Hui be acquitted just because I don’t have any proof?’
That’s what Jiang Zheyu assumed testifying would entail.
But the Guard Captain told her, "Housekeeper Jiang has already collected all the evidence. All you’ll need to do is show up and identify him. Then Hui will receive a severe punishment."
Hearing this, Jiang Zheyu froze. ’How could Jiang Yi gather all the evidence in such a short amount of time?’
The suspicion she’d had about his connection to the Star Thieves grew even stronger.
’If Jiang Yi really is involved with the Star Thieves, how am I supposed to face him?’
Jiang Zheyu’s heart was in turmoil.
’What should I do? My brain feels fried again.’
Jiang Zheyu returned to the Imperial Palace.
The Guard Captain escorted her back to her palace quarters, said his goodbyes, and left.
Jiang Zheyu walked slowly into her palace. The bright lights inside were still on, as if waiting for her return.
She was draped in a soft blanket, her feet snug in plush slippers—both given to her by the Guard Captain after she boarded the Hovercar.
"Princess Yu Yu, you’ve returned." Jiang Yi’s voice came from behind her.
Jiang Zheyu slowly turned, and Jiang Yi immediately pulled her into his arms.
He just held her like that, saying nothing.
But the warmth of his embrace spoke volumes, conveying a silent comfort.
