Top-Tier Female, All Beastmen Want Her
Chapter 187: The Great Bug
The only thing on the Deserted Star was the experimental research base established by the Imperial Army.
Now, after the power and water went out, the entire world seemed to fall silent.
Jiang Zheyu still stood at the bathroom door, clutching her clothes, feeling like a complete mess.
Jiang Zheyu had never expected the power and water to go out.
Her fingers tightened around the change of clothes she was holding.
’I’ll just wash them when I get up tomorrow,’ she thought.
’The power and water should be back on by tomorrow, right?’
’Enduring it for one night is no big deal.’
Tossing and turning in bed, Jiang Zheyu couldn’t fall asleep. In that moment, she truly understood the weight of the saying: it’s easy to go from humble to pampered, but hard to go from pampered to humble.
When a habit becomes second nature, you feel completely out of sorts if you can’t follow it.
Jiang Zheyu...
*Sigh...*
Jiang Zheyu could only force herself to endure it. It felt wrong to bother Shan Xun just because she couldn’t take a shower.
Since she couldn’t sleep, she let her spiritual power drift, and as it spread, she discovered an extraordinary spiritual power fluctuation.
After the past two days, Jiang Zheyu had grown sensitive to the unique spiritual power fluctuations of the Zerg Race. This was undoubtedly it.
Although the fluctuation was faint, Jiang Zheyu still managed to detect it.
The Zerg was lying in wait, and it felt huge.
Jiang Zheyu scrambled out of bed. Her first instinct was to rush and find Shan Xun, but then she thought, ’Wait, my spiritual power is so strong now. I should just kill the Zerg myself.’
’But I’m not sure if I can kill it in one blow.’
’My spiritual power is strong, but I’m a total glass cannon.’
’If I don’t kill it in one blow and it counterattacks, I’m toast.’
When it came to her own life, Jiang Zheyu preferred to have a few extra layers of insurance.
Besides, the Zerg was right underneath this very building. If she failed to kill it and it went on a rampage instead, the whole building could be in danger. A Zerg that big would surely cause the building to collapse and be destroyed.
Making a snap decision, Jiang Zheyu slipped on her slippers and opened the door. It was pitch-black around her. Faint, hazy moonlight filtered through a central window. She felt her way to Shan Xun’s door and knocked. "Shan Xun! Shan Xun! Captain Shan!"
CLANK.
The door next to hers opened.
Jiang Zheyu’s hand, still raised to knock on the door in front of her, froze. She felt a flash of embarrassment.
"Over here," Shan Xun’s voice came from her left.
But there was no time for embarrassment. Jiang Zheyu blindly followed the sound until her hands bumped into Shan Xun’s lean waist. An instant later, her fumbling hand was caught by a much larger one.
Shan Xun frowned, offering a blunt assessment. "Your night vision is terrible."
’I’m not an animal, of course my night vision is terrible.’
’I wonder what kind of Beastman Shan Xun is. His night vision seems pretty good.’
But this was no time to be thinking about that. Jiang Zheyu gripped his hand back and spoke urgently, "Captain Shan, I found a Zerg. It’s right under this building. Should we evacuate everyone first and then attack it?"
When Jiang Zheyu gripped his hand back, Shan Xun’s body went rigid for an instant, but her words quickly captured his full attention.
His expression immediately turned serious. He looked down at Jiang Zheyu, whose eyes couldn’t focus in the darkness. "Are you sure?"
It was too dark. When Jiang Zheyu looked up at Shan Xun, his taller, larger frame blocked even more of the moonlight. In her eyes, he was just a blurry black mass, and she couldn’t tell where his face was.
Jiang Zheyu just looked up and nodded. "It’s true."
"Alright," Shan Xun responded.
Jiang Zheyu immediately pulled his hand, feeling her way toward the stairs. "Let’s get going!"
She remembered the stairs were this way.
As Shan Xun followed Jiang Zheyu down, he pulled out his Light Brain to issue a notice. "All Beastmen in Building A, evacuate immediately."
The next second, the building’s alarm blared to life.
Jiang Zheyu and Shan Xun were on the third floor.
Jiang Zheyu pulled Shan Xun along quickly, but due to her poor vision, she stumbled her way down.
But they had to race against time to get out. Once they reached the stairs, their movements became smoother, and they broke into a run.
Just as they reached the second floor, the entire ground suddenly began to shake.
Jiang Zheyu stumbled to the side, and Shan Xun caught her by the waist just in time.
They both realized what was happening.
The Zerg was no longer lying in wait. It was coming out now.
The entire building began to shake.
And at that moment, the two of them were on a landing in the stairwell.
The Beastmen were simply jumping out of windows, equipping their Mechas, and flying away.
"Didn’t you tell the Beastmen to leave the building? Why haven’t I seen a single one on the stairs?" Jiang Zheyu was confused. Why were they the only ones running down?
"During a Zerg ambush, Beastmen just jump out a window, equip their Mechas, and leave," Shan Xun explained quickly.
"Then why didn’t you just take me and jump out the window!" The corner of Jiang Zheyu’s mouth twitched. "Wouldn’t that have been faster?"
Shan Xun paused for a moment, then said, "I saw you were already pulling me down, so I just went with you down the stairs."
His only thought at the time was to follow the female.
By the time it occurred to him, they were already running down the stairs, so he figured they might as well keep going.
The entire building suddenly tilted!
’We’re screwed! Did taking the stairs just sign our death warrants?!’ 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
"We’re done for, we’re done for! You didn’t even try to stop me! When this building collapses, we’re going to be crushed under it," Jiang Zheyu lamented, her face a mask of pure despair.
She hadn’t expected the Zerg to emerge so quickly.
Thinking she was about to be crushed under the ruins anyway, Jiang Zheyu decided to just attack the Zerg directly with her spiritual power.
A huge chunk of stone came crashing down. She was completely focused on attacking the Zerg with her spiritual power and didn’t notice the falling debris. Shan Xun grabbed her arm, and Jiang Zheyu, caught off guard, slammed into his chest as a deafening crash sounded right next to them.
"That’s not going to happen," Shan Xun said. With a single punch, he smashed a massive hole in the adjacent wall and leaped through, carrying Jiang Zheyu with him.
His Mecha materialized, and he hovered successfully in mid-air as the building behind them collapsed with a deafening roar.
The interruption caused Jiang Zheyu’s spiritual power attack to miss its mark. The Zerg underground seemed to pause for only a moment before it continued its frenzied ascent, moving even faster than before.
The Zerg suddenly appeared before Jiang Zheyu and Shan Xun.
Shan Xun’s eyes twitched. With the female in his arms, his movements were restricted.
Cradled in Shan Xun’s arms, Jiang Zheyu was still concentrating, gathering her spiritual power to strike the Zerg.
