Some even made requests, asking her to wear a mask, saying they wouldn’t mind doing Spiritual Comfort with her...

There were also some perverts who said that no matter how vicious she was, they would always love and support her. Whoever she wanted them to kill, they would kill. She was their entire life. Even if she committed murder and arson, they would still love her! Even if she was extremely ugly, they would still madly love her!

Reading these brainless comments made Jiang Zheyu’s skin crawl.

So Jiang Zheyu deleted all the messages she needed to. ’Maintaining a fanbase with just my looks... this really isn’t an easy way to make a living.’

’Thankfully, I don’t plan on making a living this way anymore.’

Jiang Zheyu witnessed the full spectrum of humanity in her friend requests. ’Then again, that’s pretty normal,’ she thought. ’The more people there are, the more types of people you’ll find.’

The heads of the families she needed to compensate, whom she’d added as friends yesterday, began accepting her requests one by one. Only a few hadn’t.

For example, a Beastman with a solid black profile picture hadn’t accepted her friend request.

’If he doesn’t accept, how am I supposed to pay them later? For child-rearing expenses, medical bills, elder care, and all that.’

She quietly made a note of this Beastman’s name, planning to ask about him when she arrived.

Jiang Zheyu stretched languidly and changed into a simple white long dress with lantern sleeves. It revealed a wide expanse of her fair, lovely collarbones. The dress cinched at the waist, and its fringed gauze skirt fell to her mid-calves.

She slipped on a pair of white shoes and headed out, looking youthful, fresh, and beautiful.

She didn’t forget to send a message to Su Yan. "Let’s go. We can visit those families together."

At the same time, she sent one to Feng Qi: "Captain Qi, I’m ready to head out."

A moment later, Jiang Zheyu reached the door and saw two men standing outside.

Feng Qi was in his handsome black military uniform, flanked by two other Beastmen in the same attire. However, the two stars on their sleeve insignias showed their rank was far below Feng Qi’s, whose shoulders were adorned with five stars and two suns. His rank was clearly superior.

A Hovercar was parked beside him. His tall, elegant figure was leaning against the black vehicle as he looked at Su Yan. "Commander Su. We meet again."

"Shouldn’t you be on patrol? What are you doing here?" Su Yan’s tone was level, showing neither anger nor pleasure, but his red eyes gazed coolly at him. "Have you already forgotten the incident on Central Street a few days ago, Captain Qi?"

Feng Qi raised an eyebrow slightly. "That’s right," he said slowly. "My subordinates are so useless they can’t even handle a simple patrol. Now their boss has to get his hands dirty."

"That’s your failure of duty," Su Yan stated, his gaze unhurried.

Feng Qi bristled at the words, his displeasure written plainly on his face. His sharp brows knitted together, his dark eyes flashed with irritation, and his pale lips moved. "Su Yan, you’re as detestable as always."

"Your spiritual power is unstable. Is it so difficult for you to let go of responsibilities you can no longer handle?" Su Yan asked, his red eyes watching him calmly.

Feng Qi’s dark eyes darkened further. He scoffed. "You’re lecturing me? What about when Commander Su was forcibly removed from the front lines because of his Beastification Value? You defiantly submitted appeal after appeal to be sent back. Ha. ’Let go of responsibilities you can no longer handle.’ Was that so difficult for you, too?"

Feng Qi was referring to the time when Su Yan had first been forcibly removed from the front lines. Su Yan had been extremely resistant back then.

"I was willing to undergo Beastification and die on the battlefield. Your situation is different," Su Yan stated, as if it were a simple fact.

After Beastification, a Beastman’s lethality increases dramatically, allowing them to easily defeat the Zerg Race.

However, they also risk completely devolving into mindless beasts.

The military has also secretly attempted to tame Beastmen post-Beastification. Through various research initiatives, they developed a serum that allows a transformed Beastman to retain a sliver of rationality. However, the effects only last for an hour. Afterward, the Beastman’s spiritual power suffers severe trauma. Becoming a beast whose spiritual power is also crippled is little different from slowly dying as they devolve.

If they merely became a beast, they could still live. But with crippled spiritual power, there is truly no coming back.

Currently, a female’s spiritual power can only purify a spiritual body, not heal one.

Naturally, the military wasn’t just researching serums to help Beastmen maintain their spiritual power post-Beastification. They were also studying how to control transformed Beastmen, turning them into mindless killing machines; researching serums to lower the Beastification Value; and investigating why a Beastman’s lethality increases after transformation...

Of all these research avenues, only the one for maintaining spiritual power had shown any success—and even that wasn’t considered a major breakthrough.

The other areas of research had yet to yield any significant progress.

Su Yan and Feng Qi stared at each other, their gazes grim.

"Hah..." Feng Qi said nothing more, only letting out a cold laugh.

Jiang Zheyu sensed the atmosphere outside was a little off. She hesitated for a moment before stepping out and looking at them. "Are we... heading out?"

The cold, tense silence seemed to shatter at the sound of the young woman’s clear, sweet voice.

Su Yan’s brow furrowed slightly as he looked at Jiang Zheyu. "He’s coming too?"

Jiang Zheyu nodded. "Yes. Captain Qi wants to ensure I apologize to them in person."

"I wasn’t aware punishments now require Captain Qi’s personal supervision," Su Yan said, glancing coolly at Feng Qi.

Feng Qi gave a lazy smile, walked over to Jiang Zheyu’s side, and said slowly, "She’s a female, after all. I should at least protect her, just in case someone tries to bully her."

The very reason Su Yan had asked Jiang Zheyu to let him know when she was leaving, so he could go with her, was because he was concerned she might be mistreated or encounter danger while making her apologies.

"Your company isn’t necessary. She has her Beast Mate with her." Su Yan took Jiang Zheyu’s hand, his gaze darkening as he looked at Feng Qi. "I won’t let her be bullied. Captain Qi can get back to his patrol."

"It’s no problem. My patrol route goes right by there anyway." Feng Qi leaned down slightly to meet Jiang Zheyu’s eyes, extending a hand to her. His lips curved into a lazy smile. "Come on, I’ll take you."

Jiang Zheyu stared at the man smiling so gently before her. He was completely different from the intimidating figure who had interrogated her with such cold pressure in the interrogation room.

’This man is so two-faced.’

"Captain Qi, please act normal. I’m not used to you like this," Jiang Zheyu said, quietly taking a few steps back.

Feng Qi raised an eyebrow. "How am I not being normal? We’re not interrogator and criminal anymore."

After a moment’s thought, he slowly leaned closer to Jiang Zheyu and murmured, "Oh... Don’t tell me you prefer the interrogator-and-criminal dynamic?"

The corner of Jiang Zheyu’s mouth twitched. "Not particularly, no."

Su Yan pushed away the man who was getting closer and closer to his Female Master and shot a cold glance at Feng Qi. "Since it’s on your way, let’s get going. We’ll be troubling Captain Qi to be our driver, then."
