Chapter 63: Chapter 63: Test

"Doctor Li, you’re not working at the Imperial Capital First Hospital anymore?" Jiang Zheyu asked, voicing her confusion.

Li Xingbai picked up a pen and paper from the desk. He adjusted his glasses with one hand, his clear, beautiful, yet distant silver eyes looking over at her through the lenses. "Miss Jiang, to answer your question, I am only here because I’ve been temporarily reassigned."

He slowly walked over to the spiritual power testing device to calibrate it, adding, "However, I am indeed resigning. The Imperial First Hospital will assign a new primary physician for you, so you don’t need to worry about that."

’Soon, I’ll be transferred to the military’s Research Institute to study those disgusting insects. That way, I can avoid being bothered by other females.’

"I see," Jiang Zheyu replied, surprised.

’It wouldn’t be right to ask Li Xingbai why he was resigning, though.’

"Miss Jiang, you can come over now." After finishing his calibrations on the spiritual power testing device, Li Xingbai glanced over at her.

Jiang Zheyu walked over.

Realizing she was still holding several Beastman matchmaking profiles, she placed them on the desk before approaching him.

"Miss Jiang, you’ve had your spiritual power tested before, so you should know what to do, right?" Li Xingbai said as he helped place the spiritual testing halo on her head. Being so close, he caught the faint, tea-scented fragrance of the shampoo in her dark hair, carried as if on a crisp breeze.

Li Xingbai paused for just a moment before quickly moving away to the control console. His long, slender fingers rested on a few buttons. "Miss Jiang, you can now focus your spiritual power on the point of light in the center."

Jiang Zheyu nodded. "Okay."

She knew how to proceed from the original host’s memories.

’However, I don’t want to display such high spiritual power, nor do I want to make myself stand out.’

’After all, the Little Princess of the Empire’s spiritual power is only A+ at its highest. I just need to be a tiny bit higher than her.’

After numerous spiritual power treatments, Jiang Zheyu could already control her spiritual power with ease.

The point of light on the column in front of Jiang Zheyu slowly brightened and began to rise.

When Li Xingbai noticed her level reach C+, he was already a bit surprised. After all, the female’s previous level was only C. To increase to C+ in such a short time was quite impressive.

He thought this was the female’s limit, but unexpectedly, the point of light continued to rise. It became C++, then broke through B, and showed no signs of stopping. His gaze gradually grew solemn.

Jiang Zheyu stopped precisely when her spiritual power level was controlled at A++.

Beside her, Li Xingbai’s usually calm silver eyes couldn’t help but tremble slightly. He suppressed his inner shock and recalibrated the machine. "Miss Jiang, let’s test it one more time."

Jiang Zheyu had no objections and, following Li Xingbai’s instructions, tested it again.

The results of both measurements indicated her spiritual power had reached the A++ level.

Li Xingbai looked at her with a complicated expression. "Miss Jiang, your measured spiritual power level is A++."

Jiang Zheyu nodded slightly, not looking surprised. In truth, her spiritual power was even higher than A++; she was S-Class.

"The test is done, so can I go back now?" Jiang Zheyu asked softly when she saw the silent Li Xingbai.

"I’m afraid not." Li Xingbai paused, looking at the beautiful female before him. "In a moment, I’ll have to trouble you to accompany me to the Imperial Palace, Miss Jiang."

’Just as I thought,’ Jiang Zheyu said to herself. ’It’s not that simple.’

"Okay." She still agreed to go, however.

The Imperial Palace was a Western-style building constructed of white walls with gold trim, giving it a noble and majestic appearance.

The garden’s plants were neatly trimmed, and flowers bloomed in clusters. Sunlight spilled down, and an open-air fountain scattered water that shimmered with fantastical colors.

’As I followed Li Xingbai,’ she thought, ’I realized that prying gaze was gone. Is it because he’s with me, or has that Beastman already left? I have no way of knowing.’

"Doctor Li, who are we going to see?" Jiang Zheyu glanced at Li Xingbai beside her.

"The Star Emperor," Li Xingbai said simply.

’Oh, I get it. The Star Emperor is the ruler of the Empire, like an emperor.’

’But I’m just a female with A++ spiritual power. Is that enough to get an audience with the Star Emperor?’

’This is the first time in my life I’m meeting an emperor. I’m a little nervous, even if he is an interstellar emperor.’

"Mr. Lin!" A frantic voice suddenly shouted.

A massive brown hawk with enormous wings swooped over, instantly blotting out the sun. It blocked the daylight above Jiang Zheyu and kicked up a furious gale, as if the apocalypse had arrived in an instant.

Following the brown hawk were various military aircraft that immediately surrounded it. Lasers continuously fired at the great hawk, and a silver net of light was cast toward it. On the ground below, a large, orderly group of Beastmen in military uniforms pursued the hawk, guns in hand.

As the silver net of light enveloped the hawk and various types of Laser Cannons struck its body, it rapidly shrank to a human-like size and plummeted to the ground in front of Jiang Zheyu, kicking up a massive cloud of dust.

The hawk, tangled in the light net, continued to struggle fiercely, looking as if it was about to lunge at Jiang Zheyu. Li Xingbai instinctively stepped in front of her.

Soon, soldiers from the Imperial Palace guard surrounded the hawk and brought it under control.

A young man in a white shirt walked over, accompanied by a young boy with a worried expression. The man looked at the hawk with emotionless eyes. "Lock Mr. Lin back in the basement."

"Yes, sir," the group of Beastmen responded.

"Mr. Wu, I’ll go with them to check on him," the young boy said, looking at the man in white.

The man in white simply gave a slight nod of approval.

The Beastmen quickly took the hawk away, and the young boy hurried after them.

Only then did the young man in the white shirt turn to look at Jiang Zheyu and Li Xingbai.

"My apologies, esteemed female. You were frightened." The young man lowered his eyes, placed his right palm over his left breast, and inclined his body slightly in a polite greeting to Jiang Zheyu. His voice seemed to carry a mechanical, rigid coldness.

"Commander Wu," Li Xingbai, standing beside her, also greeted him by placing his right hand over his left breast and bowing slightly.

Jiang Zheyu instinctively copied the gesture, placing her right hand over her left breast and bowing slightly. "Commander Wu. I wasn’t frightened."

’The original host was from a remote star. As a C-Class female, she never had the opportunity to enter the Imperial Palace, let alone meet a member of the Imperial Family.’

And so, after she made the gesture, both men looked at her.

Jiang Zheyu: ...

’Was my gesture improper? Why are they looking at me like that? I’ve never learned Imperial etiquette, so you can’t blame me if I did it wrong.’
