"This is the Star Network Solo Livestreaming Department."

The man wore silver-rimmed glasses. His gaze swept over the crowd of Beastmen as he pushed the frames up slightly, a meaningful smile on his face.

As the department head making the last picks, he got to watch these people grovel and beg, see their despair, and even witness them turn on each other.

The man chose the first Beastman, the second, the third, the fourth...

Only one last spot for a Beastman remained!

The atmosphere grew tense. For this final spot, the man’s gaze slowly drifted over the Beastmen who were waving and shouting frantically. He deliberately held back, delaying his choice, seeming to relish their reactions.

Jiang Zheyu’s waving arm was starting to ache. She had pushed her way to the front. Her throat was utterly parched. She gripped the iron bars of the cell, swallowed dryly, and felt her heart pound violently. Sweat beaded on her forehead, making her feel incredibly sticky.

Only one last spot left.

The last spot to live.

"Sir, pick me! Pick me!" A Beastman next to Jiang Zheyu suddenly dropped to his knees, grabbing the bars and slamming his head against them until it bled. "I don’t want to die! Please, sir, pick me!"

Jiang Zheyu jumped, startled. She looked down at the large pool of blood, and her heart began to race even faster. Most of the people in their cell had already been chosen, leaving it somewhat empty and the air less stifling, but she still found it hard to breathe.

Sure enough, the large puddle of blood from the Beastman beside her caught the man’s attention.

The man walked over slowly. A look of hope filled the kneeling Beastman’s eyes. His blood-smeared face turned upward to the man as if he were his last saving grace.

Slowly, the man raised his hand and pointed at the Beastman, pausing for a moment. The kneeling Beastman struggled to get up, thinking he was about to be chosen, a joyful light appearing in his eyes.

But before the Beastman could rise, the man’s paused finger moved again, darting suddenly to point at Jiang Zheyu. "You, come out. I’ll take you." 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

The Beastman beside her whipped his head around to look at Jiang Zheyu.

Jiang Zheyu’s heart had already sunk. She had been planning that when they sent her to the ’selling house’ to be parted out for organs, she would fight to the death for even the slimmest chance of escape.

Who knew that things would take such a sudden turn, and the man would choose her?

’He probably didn’t actually want to choose me,’ she thought. ’It’s just because I was standing next to the Beastman who’d bashed his own head open.’

’The man did it on purpose.’

Just as she suspected, the Beastman next to Jiang Zheyu went berserk upon hearing this. He pointed at her and screamed, "He’s new! He hasn’t been trained! He’s just a bystander who was accidentally captured after the Starship crash tonight!"

"Oh?" The man raised his eyebrows, looking at Jiang Zheyu with what seemed like surprise.

Jiang Zheyu knew the other Beastmen in the cell must have overheard her conversation with the person next to her last night.

So, when their own interests were on the line...

...a Beastman had sold her out.

Still, it was understandable. They were just strangers; they had no responsibility for each other’s lives.

But there was no point in hiding her status as a newcomer anymore. If she wasn’t chosen, it wouldn’t matter if she was new or a veteran—they would all be sent to the ’selling house’ just the same.

After revealing Jiang Zheyu’s secret, the Beastman desperately grabbed the man’s pant leg and kowtowed repeatedly. "Sir, this newcomer has no experience! I’ve been in the Erotica Department, the Group Livestreaming Department, and even the Pet Abuse Department! I’m very experienced. If you pick me, I guarantee I can start livestreaming and making money right away!"

The man just chuckled, then kicked the Beastman away.

After speaking, he looked at Jiang Zheyu and raised an eyebrow. "Why aren’t you out yet? Do you want to go to the ’selling house’ too?"

Jiang Zheyu quickly shook her head. She didn’t want to go to the ’selling house’. She didn’t want to die.

Her legs, heavy as lead, slowly began to move. But before she could reach the door, the Beastman behind her suddenly lunged, tackling her.

Caught completely off guard, Jiang Zheyu was slammed to the ground. The Beastman’s hands closed tightly around her neck.

She suddenly found it difficult to breathe and quickly used her spiritual power to attack the A-rank Beastman.

The Beastman choking her was struck by a sudden, sharp pain in his head and collapsed, unconscious.

"COUGH, COUGH, COUGH..." Jiang Zheyu scrambled to her feet, coughing violently while clutching her neck. Bright red handprints were already forming where she’d been grabbed. It was clear from the force that the Beastman had been trying to kill her.

She looked up and saw the man outside wearing an expression of pity.

It was unclear if he was pitying the fact that the Beastman hadn’t managed to kill her, or that the Beastman had fainted.

Either way, it was a look filled with malice.

A chill went through Jiang Zheyu’s heart. Disgust flashed in her eyes, but she quickly lowered her head to hide her emotions as the man outside looked over.

She walked out of the cell and stood next to the four other chosen Beastmen who were behind the man.

"All right, follow me," the man said, glancing back at them before leading the way out.

Jiang Zheyu and the other four Beastmen followed closely behind the man.

As she left the cell, she heard sounds of anguish and desperate cries from behind her...

All the tortured, hopeless screams vanished the moment the cell door shut, yet the sound seemed to linger in her ears, refusing to fade.

Jiang Zheyu felt numb. She couldn’t save anyone right now; she could barely save herself.
