Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work
Chapter 287: The Final Say
After finishing with Ding Anmin’s wedding, Li Hongying put all her energy into buying New Year’s goods and cleaning the house thoroughly.
She put new sheets and duvet covers on all the family’s beds, washed and rehung the curtains, and cleaned every nook and cranny, even scraping away the cobwebs in the corners. The house was filled to the brim with chicken, duck, fish, meat, nuts, and candies she purchased.
Yi Roujing was never really interested in celebrating New Year’s. In her past life, she would avoid going home if she could, and during the holidays, she would volunteer for hospital duty to keep herself busy. Nobody ever called her to invite her back for the New Year’s Eve dinner, so to her, the New Year was just a name without much meaning.
Even visiting relatives was more of a business exchange, without any genuine family concern—mostly just relatives trying to see what benefits they could get from you. Yi Roujing quickly saw through it and grew tired of it.
However, during this first New Year of the era, as she watched Li Hongying moving busily around with a smile, Yi Roujing suddenly felt that life was somewhat beautiful.
Things are different now; she has family back home who care for and love her, her in-laws who treat her like their own daughter, a husband who adores her, and a baby on the way. She never thought that in this time period, nearly a year, she would achieve everything she had not achieved in the past twenty years of her previous life.
"What are you thinking about?" Xu Ancheng saw his wife holding her belly, looking tenderly outside, and walked over to hug her from behind, gently covering her hands with his. Suddenly, he felt a kick from the baby inside her belly.
"Is everything okay?" Xu Ancheng asked with a bit of concern, moving to Yi Roujing’s front to inquire, even wanting to lift Yi Roujing’s coat to look at her belly. "The baby kicked so hard this time."
"It’s fine." Yi Roujing chuckled, "We don’t even know if it’s a boy or a girl."
"Whatever it is when born, it’s fine." Xu Ancheng said, "I’ll love the baby no matter what."
"What if I never give birth to a son?" Yi Roujing seemed to think of something and asked.
Xu Ancheng laughed at her words and teased, "Are you worried about me, or the elders, or do you yourself want to have a son?"
Yi Roujing blinked her eyes, "I don’t mind either way, I like both sons and daughters."
"Alright then, whatever you want." Xu Ancheng hugged her closer, "You’re the one carrying the baby for ten months, and you’re the one enduring the pain of labor. You have the most say, so don’t worry about anyone else. I won’t let anyone disturb you with this."
Yi Roujing suddenly felt a lump in her throat, her eyes reddening; she felt like crying, but her heart was filled with joy and emotion. She reached out to hug Xu Ancheng’s waist.
"Why are you so good to me?" Yi Roujing choked out.
"If I’m not good to you, who should I be good to?" Xu Ancheng responded with a laugh, "But don’t cry, or you’ll look red-eyed when you go out, and if our parents see, they’ll probably scold me."
Yi Roujing playfully punched Xu Ancheng.
"I’ll be coming home late the next few days to help my uncle with something, but don’t worry, it’s not dangerous." Xu Ancheng informed her, "I should be done by New Year’s, and in the morning, I’ll take you to work, and in the evening, Mom will pick you up. Don’t come home by yourself."
"Okay, I know." Yi Roujing nodded, having gotten used to the care, she felt a little pampered now.
On the last working day before New Year’s, Yi Roujing was sent to her office early in the morning by Xu Ancheng. As soon as she reached the second floor, she was called by Fan Yuanrong.
"Roujing, check the inventory of our inpatient department and report the numbers. Then you can head home early, it’s New Year, happy New Year." Fan Yuanrong said with a smile.
"Okay, happy New Year, Head Nurse." Yi Roujing replied with a smile.
The storage room for the inpatient department was in the hospital’s warehouse, occupying one room. It usually held medical supplies received from higher authorities.
There was an inventory list for the warehouse; Yi Roujing just needed to check it. It was similar to when she checked the Xu Family’s warehouse in Jing City, just with different supplies.
Having worked outdoors many times, Yi Roujing was familiar with the inpatient department’s storeroom and the hospital’s warehouse.
The hospital’s warehouse was at the edge of the back wall of the hospital, a row of five rooms. However, one room was for the employee overseeing the warehouse to live in. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Nurse Yi is here."
"Sir Zhang." Yi Roujing was very familiar with Sir Zhang and greeted him with a cheerful nod.
"Please open the inpatient department’s storeroom, I need to check the inventory." Yi Roujing said with a smile.
Sir Zhang’s face wrinkled in a smile, took the keys from his waistband, found the right one, and opened the third room.
"Nurse Yi, you—whoa," Sir Zhang was taken aback and stepped back.
Yi Roujing, who wasn’t too close, wasn’t hit by Sir Zhang’s retreat. Instead, she quickly supported him from the side to prevent him from falling.
Sir Zhang’s face was full of horror, pointing at the storeroom, his whole body trembling, "Person, there’s a dead person."
Yi Roujing was shocked to hear this. Seeing that Sir Zhang could stand steadily, she went inside herself. There, she saw a thinly clad person with pale and bluish skin curled up, showing only a back. From the back, she could see dry, yellow hair—it was a girl.
Yi Roujing quickly went in, moved to the girl’s side, where the girl’s head was lowered, hands a bit stiff. She reached out to feel the neck and found a weak pulse. She immediately took off her own coat and covered the girl.
"Sir Zhang, go call someone quickly, this child isn’t dead, she’s alive." Yi Roujing knew the child was frozen, so she immediately rubbed the child’s limbs.
Three minutes later, Sir Zhang came with others, including a doctor and nurse from outpatient care.
The doctor who came was a young male doctor. Seeing Yi Roujing’s actions, he quickly examined and joined in to help rub blood back into the child’s limbs.
After half an hour, the child let out a groan, and the doctor quickly picked her up and headed to outpatient care.
Feng Lishu didn’t come over, it was Han Xiangxi and Pan Jinfeng. Knowing that Yi Roujing had given her coat to the child and was wearing only a sweater, Han Xiangxi quickly took off her own.
"You wear this for now, once the child is wrapped in a warm quilt, I’ll take your coat back." Han Xiangxi bundled up Yi Roujing tightly.
"Xiangxi, I’m not that cold, you..."
"You’re pregnant; whether you’re cold or not, you have to wear it." Han Xiangxi glared at her, then protected her on the way to outpatient care, "Get your coat back before continuing work."
Seeing the child come back to life, Sir Zhang relaxed a bit and frowned slightly in confusion, "Strange, I’ve never opened the door; how did the child get in there?"
