Chapter 292: Chapter 292: Does It Still Hurt?

"Exhausted, still exhausted?" Xu Ancheng suddenly panicked, his face turning slightly pale.

"Don’t make a fuss," Doctor Ren said with a chuckle, "It’s normal."

Looking at Yi Roujing, who was lying on the hospital bed with a calm expression and a rosy complexion, Doctor Ren joked, "If I didn’t know better, I’d think it was your husband who was giving birth."

"But you’re very sensible; you just washed your hair, didn’t you? Smart," Doctor Ren gave her a thumbs-up in praise.

Yi Roujing flashed a bright smile, but the contractions intensified a bit, causing her expression to freeze. Her brows furrowed as Xu Ancheng hurried to her side, gripping her hand tightly.

The contractions came and went, and in no time, Yi Roujing’s forehead broke into a sweat. Xu Ancheng, sitting by her side, dabbed her sweat with a handkerchief, occasionally whispering questions about whether she needed water or anything to eat.

Liu Huilan rushed in hurriedly, wearing an apron. She had taken time off, not forgetting to bring good food from the cafeteria for her daughter and in-laws.

Yi Roujing initially endured it; she ate quite a bit of lunch in bed. But by the afternoon, the contractions became incessant and overwhelming. Xu Ancheng grew extremely nervous, but any sound from those around her became an irritation and a catalyst for her.

"Please don’t talk," Yi Roujing whispered, and Xu Ancheng quickly fell silent, only doing what he could to help.

In the same room with Yi Roujing were two other maternity patients, one yet to give birth who moved in around the same time as Yi Roujing, and another who had just delivered and had a baby crying constantly by her side.

The two women felt somewhat envious of Yi Roujing. Each of them had only one accompanying person, their husbands not even close by. The one who had given birth had only her own mother with her, making the contrast glaringly obvious.

To them, Yi Roujing’s words to Xu Ancheng sounded like someone born into fortune without realizing it, and their gazes towards Yi Roujing changed, tinged with jealousy.

However, Xu Ancheng’s continued attentiveness made the two women feel even more bitter.

"Four centimeters dilated, time to head to the delivery room." Doctor Ren frequently checked in on Yi Roujing, being from their own hospital, naturally showing extra care.

Xu Ancheng wanted to follow inside but was persuaded to stay out by Yi Roujing.

"Rest assured, I’ll come out fine. You just wait for me outside," said Yi Roujing in a low voice, noticing Xu Ancheng’s unusual anxiety compared to usual, even through her pain.

Xu Ancheng nodded.

"Mr. Xu, don’t worry about it. Roujing’s baby is in the correct position, and her dilation is progressing quickly. There’s no need to fret," Doctor Ren said, amused to see such a concerned husband for the first time, "Possibly by dinnertime, you’ll see your wife and child."

"Ancheng, it’s alright. Sit for a bit, or go for a walk outside—childbirth is like this," Liu Huilan could hardly bear to see her son-in-law in such a state. Since Xu Ancheng wasn’t planning to leave, she pulled him to sit down.

Yi Roujing labored in the delivery room for as long as Xu Ancheng sat outside. At sunset, a loud cry sounded. The Yi Family and Ding Family members waiting outside all stood up abruptly, only Xu Ancheng remained seated, his legs feeling weak.

After a while, Doctor Ren personally came out holding the baby, "Hahaha, both mother and son are safe. Congratulations, congratulations! Roujing has given birth to a 6 pounds, 3 ounces healthy boy."

Li Hongying and Liu Huilan were overjoyed. After confirming Yi Roujing’s condition, they glanced at the baby in Doctor Ren’s arms. After some back-and-forth, Li Hongying was the first to hold the baby. By then, the child had stopped crying, eyes tightly shut, occasionally moving its lips, looking utterly adorable.

"Where’s my wife?" Xu Ancheng rose, asking this as his first question. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

"Inside, but you can go in now if you’d like," Doctor Ren responded with a smile.

Xu Ancheng dashed into the delivery room, seeing Yi Roujing lying there, drenched in sweat. Overwhelmed with tenderness, he leaned down to kiss her forehead, "Does it still hurt?"

Yi Roujing felt relieved the moment the child was delivered, though she was still somewhat exhausted, her consciousness was clear. Seeing Xu Ancheng’s face full of concern moved her deeply, "It doesn’t hurt anymore. Actually, it wasn’t too bad. Have you seen our son?"

Xu Ancheng shook his head and murmured, "I’ll see him later, I just want to see you, my big treasure, first."

Yi Roujing blushed slightly, noticing that the medical staff around hadn’t heard, she gazed at Xu Ancheng, her eyes twinkling like stars.

Li Hongying, Liu Huilan, and others came in to see Yi Roujing. Confirming she was alright, they felt reassured.

After spending over an hour in the delivery room, Yi Roujing was moved to a patient room, which was filled to the brim with people like Ding Anmin, Xia Xingchen, Feng Lishu, Xie Chenyan, and Yi Roujing’s two sisters-in-law. The men were stationed outside in the corridor.

"Alright, Roujing is fine, you’ve seen the baby too, let’s head back. Come again after discharge," Liu Huilan began ushering out half the crowd.

Ding Anmin stayed, attempting to hold the baby, "Wow, sister-in-law, he’s so soft. I’m a bit scared."

"Then just put him down," Li Hongying glared at her daughter.

"Mom, I just wanted to practice a bit," Ding Anmin responded righteously.

"Are you pregnant?" Yi Roujing’s eyes lit up as she beckoned Ding Anmin over. Ding Anmin handed the baby to Li Hongying, blushed slightly, and obediently extended her hand.

Yi Roujing felt her pulse, "Two months along, you’re quite fast."

"Sister-in-law, you’re too kind," joked Huang Xiaobao while rubbing his head, before Ding Anmin even spoke.

"What nonsense," Ding Anmin chided, going to hit Huang Xiaobao as those around them burst into laughter.

Li Hongying was delighted to hear the news, then she began instructing her to be more careful and not to be too reckless...

Li Hongying took out some chicken soup she had specially prepared that afternoon, telling Xu Ancheng to warm it up, making sure Yi Roujing finished it all.

"In-laws, Ancheng and I will stay with Roujing tonight. You all should head home for dinner; it’s getting dark," Li Hongying persuaded Liu Huilan and Ding Anmin to head home, and stayed back with Xu Ancheng to take care of Yi Roujing.

Once everyone left, Li Hongying began helping to stimulate milk flow, massaging with a warm towel, and then letting the newborn suckle.

Yi Roujing finally got a good look at her son. Earlier, when Doctor Ren held him next to her face, she had only taken a quick glance. He was dirty, red, and wrinkled. Now, while he wasn’t dirty, the redness and wrinkles remained.

"So ugly," Yi Roujing couldn’t help but complain.

"Oh dear," Li Hongying laughed, "They all look like this at birth. He’ll get better looking, changing every day."

Although the curtain was drawn, it was Yi Roujing’s first time nursing, and she felt a bit shy under the watchful eyes of Li Hongying and Xu Ancheng.

The baby took some effort, but finally began to nurse, sucking quickly and little by little, which Yi Roujing found suddenly endearing.
