Yi Roujing gave her portion to Ni Yan’an, while she ate roast meat, roasted sweet potatoes, and roasted baozi. It smelled delicious.

Baozi also shared one of his small rice balls with Jiang Bomeng, but received a few bites of roasted sweet potatoes and roasted mantou.

After finishing the meal and extinguishing the fire, the group felt content.

"Ancheng, sister-in-law, are you free next Sunday? The Ni Family is hosting a family banquet. You should bring Baozi and join us," Ni Yanqing said.

"Sure," Xu Ancheng nodded.

"Sister-in-law, see you next week. Baozi, remember to miss An’an,"

"Hmm," Baozi looked at Ni Yan’an, nodded, and Ni Yan’an happily kissed Baozi on the cheek several times.

On the way back in the car, Baozi was already sleepy and soon fell asleep in Xu Ancheng’s arms.

"Is it appropriate for us to attend the Ni Family’s banquet?" Yi Roujing asked. Since Ni Yanqing invited them, it was certain that her father-in-law, Xu Zongyin, was not included in the invitation, otherwise there would be no need for Ni Yanqing to extend the invitation.

"I’m a teacher, so it’s not a big deal. Dad’s position is known, and the Ni Family holds a high status; frequent interactions might not be good," Xu Ancheng explained, "You’ll find that most attendees will be juniors, and it’s an unspoken understanding."

Yi Roujing acknowledged that she had learned something new.

"Moreover, Dad has already mentioned to me that if the Ni Family invites us, we should accept."

"I see," Yi Roujing understood.

"Today, Ni Yanqing and the others beat up Deng Yilun and threatened the Cheng Family; will there be any trouble?"

"It’s just kids fooling around. Even if the elders found out, they would only think their own children were outperformed," Xu Ancheng said casually.

"But you need to be careful. Cheng Yijin holds grudges and is affiliated with Jing University," Xu Ancheng cautioned, "During your interactions, especially with Song Yiluo stirring things up, I’m more worried about you."

"Don’t worry, if anyone comes for me, I’ll make them regret it," Yi Roujing said eagerly.

Xu Ancheng found her amusing, "As long as you don’t get hurt, no need to worry about others."

"With your words, why would I be concerned?"

"Mom, mom, mom! What’s happened to you?" A somewhat heart-wrenching cry suddenly rang out on the otherwise quiet bus. Xu Ancheng instinctively covered Baozi’s ears, but Baozi still stirred and opened his eyes.

"Daddy’s here. Sleep," Xu Ancheng said gently, and shortly after Baozi succumbed to sleep again.

Yi Roujing observed the commotion though she couldn’t see clearly as people gathered in front.

"What’s happening? Her mouth and eyes seem to be askew."

"Saliva’s flowing, she can’t move at all now."

"Oh dear, it’s over, it’s over. In our brigade, a man in his sixties suddenly collapsed like this. Never got up again. Couldn’t control bodily functions, lost speech, and after a month in bed, he was gone."

"Quick, hurry, take my mom to the hospital, the hospital..." The woman who initially cried out looked increasingly agitated.

Listening to the speculation ahead, Yi Roujing suspected a sudden cerebrovascular accident, commonly known as a stroke, "Make way, make way."

Yi Roujing squeezed forward, "I study medicine, let me take a look."

The passengers ahead heard her and swiftly made way for Yi Roujing to move forward.

"Screech—" The bus suddenly halted with inertia, then slowed down.

"Oh dear, it’s a disaster." The driver looked at the smoking hood, sweating from anxiety as the broken vehicle failed during a pressing moment with a life at stake.

Yi Roujing frowned slightly. She saw, sitting in the third-row seat, a woman with a hat, her mouth and eyes askew, limbs stiffening, drooling—an elderly lady whom she recognized as having spoken to her and Baozi earlier, even inviting them for a meal when they got off.

Seeing her fallen hat on the ground, Yi Roujing realized the woman probably didn’t see them on boarding because she had already started experiencing symptoms.

Yi Roujing lifted a corner of her coat, took a pill from inner lining, unsealed it, and put the reddish-brown pill directly into the woman’s mouth.

"What are you doing? What are you doing?" The crying woman grabbed Yi Roujing’s hand, startled at the sight of the pill.

"I got off the bus with this lady earlier, with my son. I don’t know if you remember," Yi Roujing indicated Baozi, asleep. The woman looked carefully, recognizing her—attractive people often leave a memorable impression.

"I was a nurse, now a medical student at Jing University. The lady’s showing stroke symptoms, and this pill offers emergency aid. After she takes it, we really need to get her to the hospital fast," Yi Roujing urged.

The woman’s grip relaxed; Yi Roujing administered the pill, then focused on how to reach the hospital.

Xu Ancheng handed Baozi to Yi Roujing, got off to help. With fields all around, no households nearby, contacting help seemed difficult; fixing the car was the fastest option.

Xu Ancheng joined the driver, examining the engine under the lifted hood, quickly identifying the issue, "The engine’s overheated, needs cooling."

"You’re sharp! You with the transport unit?" Relieved, the driver with Xu Ancheng’s help got the car running again in fifteen minutes.

"Comrades, we have a passenger urgently needing medical care. To assist those in need, we’ll head straight to Harmony Hospital in Jing City. Do you all agree?" The driver engaged the passengers as he drove.

"Driver, we support this, getting the patient to medical care is critical."

Yi Roujing stayed beside the affected woman, tilting her head to the side; only hospital treatment could help now.

"Comrade, what medicine did you give my mom earlier?" The woman asked Yi Roujing, "In case the doctors ask, I can explain." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

"An Gong Life-saving Pills," Yi Roujing replied, understanding the woman’s concern about unknown medication. This pill, which her maternal grandfather had left behind, was precious and she only used it because of the lady’s previous kindness.

It was time to gather ingredients to make more An Gong Life-saving Pills; in emergencies, it’s an invaluable aid.

The driver sped up, reaching Harmony Hospital in an hour.

Concerned but observing Yi Roujing, the woman followed them into the hospital while Yi Roujing signaled to Xu Ancheng as they entered.
