Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work
Chapter 399: Meeting Gifts
"Auntie," Dai Zhenyong and his group said in unison.
"Oh, oh, good, good." Li Hongying took out the meeting gifts she prepared for the Dai Family. She was very grateful to the two elder sons of the Dai family. Without their understanding and consent, Li Honghua would never have been able to establish herself in the Dai Family.
Dai Zhenyong is thirty-three this year, and his wife Zhao Jingyuan is thirty. They have a son and a daughter, the son is already ten years old, and the daughter is seven.
Dai Zhenxiong is thirty this year, and his wife Jiang Meiling is twenty-six. They have a five-year-old son.
Dai Zhenyan and Dai Zhenhua are twins, both twenty-two this year. They both got into East Province University last year and will probably wait a few more years before getting married.
The four siblings of the Dai family have a very good relationship, which Yi Roujing and others could tell just by observing their interactions.
Li Hongying prepared the same presents for all of them, regardless of gender, each got a watch with the distinction between male and female styles. The children got red envelopes, but it wasn’t just the kids; Li Hongying also prepared them for all four siblings of the Dai family and their two daughters-in-law.
"Wow, it’s so pretty." Dai Zhenhua looked at the watch, her heart full of joy. She also originally had a watch, but it was domestically made. The ones Li Hongying bought for them were all imported, not cheap, and very stylish.
"As expected of Jing City, even the best Department Store here probably doesn’t have such trendy goods." The speaker was Jiang Meiling, who works at the Department Store in finance. She is familiar with the goods the store brings in, which is why she said this.
Li Hongying didn’t expect there to be Dai Caixia too, so she handed over a red envelope. This red envelope was hastily prepared just earlier while putting the luggage upstairs.
Dai Caixia accepted it with a smile tugging at her lips, but her eyes remained fixed on the watches in the hands of others, which were not cheap, costing at least a few hundred each.
In the Dai family, Dai Caixia got along best with Dai Zhenyong’s wife Zhao Jingyuan, who was about the same age, and their kids were around the same age too, giving them plenty of common topics to chat about.
Originally, it was thought that Li Honghua had strong maternal support, but it was only just discovered that Xu Ancheng was not born of Li Hongying, thus having no relation to the Dai family. Xu Ancheng is the son of Minister Xu of Jing City, Yi Roujing is his daughter-in-law, the boy is his grandson, but there is no blood relation to Li Hongying.
However, the Xu Family is very grateful to Li Hongying. Their current residence in Jing City and their jobs are all thanks to Xu Ancheng and the Xu Family. Dai Caixia only thought Li Hongying was lucky, not knowing how much the Xu Family gave her. Otherwise, how could she afford to give such expensive watches? It’s likely the Xu Family prepared them, and she simply took the advantage.
Li Honghua wanted to say something to Li Hongying, but in front of her sons and daughters-in-law, she couldn’t say anything. After the meal, she went into the room to lecture her.
"Why did you prepare such expensive gifts for them?" Li Honghua disagreed, "Six watches, how much do they cost? Red envelopes would have been enough."
Li Hongying smiled at her words, "Big Sis, it’s not that I don’t know better. It’s within my capability to give. Over the years, I’ve saved quite a bit of money, and besides, it’s the first time meeting Zhenyan and the others, as well as Zhenyong and Zhenxiong. You being able to live comfortably in the Dai family for decades is inseparable from their approval. As their aunt, what’s wrong with buying them nice watches? Not to mention I didn’t attend their weddings."
"I discussed this with the family as well; they’re all aware," Li Hongying explained. "Big Sis, don’t worry. It’s thanks to Ancheng being filial."
"Those savings were meant for Ancheng. After all, the house in Jing City was paid for by Ancheng and Roujing, yet the title is under Weihe and me. I remember how good they are to us but they refused to accept it, saying family doesn’t need such things."
Li Hongying felt a bit emotional, "Honestly, our Ding Family has been doing well all these years, all thanks to Ancheng. He’s smart and capable, got recommended for university and studied for free, with state support. After graduation, he got a job; it’s all thanks to him leaving the village."
"That child is filial," Li Honghua said gently, "It’s also because you and your husband genuinely treated him well and raised him well as your own son. It’s rightful now to enjoy a son and daughter-in-law’s filial piety, and knowing your temperament, you surely wouldn’t wrong them."
Everyone returned to their rooms to discuss; Zhao Jingyuan put away the family’s red envelopes directly upon returning to the room. She and Dai Zhenyong each had ten yuan, and the two kids had five each, a significant amount for a red envelope.
"Didn’t expect that cheap little aunt to be so generous," Zhao Jingyuan said with a hint of joy, pocketing all thirty yuan, almost as much as her monthly salary.
"Don’t call her that randomly," Dai Zhenyong frowned slightly at his wife’s words.
"I’m not wrong, just saying it in our room. It’s not like I’d call her that to her face. She’s just lucky, having raised the Xu family’s son for over twenty years; otherwise, how could she have her current fortune?" Zhao Jingyuan felt a bit envious of others’ good fortune.
"She’s kindhearted. When she raised him, she didn’t know he was the Xu family’s son back then. Another pair of chopsticks at home, let alone supporting him through college, is no simple task. If such luck comes your way, you might just push it away." Dai Zhenyong, understanding his wife, spoke bluntly.
"You..." Zhao Jingyuan was a bit angry but held it back, thinking of the gifts and money, as she was in a good mood today.
In Dai Zhenxiong and Jiang Meiling’s room, the couple was also looking at the gifts and red envelopes.
"Isn’t it too extravagant?" Jiang Meiling felt it was a bit overwhelming.
"If Mom and Dad didn’t say anything, then it’s fine," Dai Zhenxiong replied, "When Auntie and the others are leaving, we can prepare some specialty products for them. When they return to Jing City, we can occasionally send some over as a gesture." 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Jiang Meiling nodded in agreement, "By the way, how’s the application for the couple’s room going?"
"It should be approved this year," Dai Zhenxiong assured, "But about Big Brother and Sister-in-law..."
"They are them, we are us," Jiang Meiling looked down on Zhao Jingyuan’s ways somewhat, "Little Uncle and Auntie haven’t even married or settled yet, and even though we haven’t split the family, it doesn’t feel right to just take without contributing, given the family expenses come from Mom and Dad."
"Back when we had to contribute wages, Sister-in-Law disagreed, causing a scene. Dad still doesn’t know about it; it’s just Mom covering it up. Otherwise, how could Big Brother and Sister-in-Law still live here?"
"Fortunately, Big Brother has a good sense of discretion; now Sister-in-Law doesn’t dare go overboard. But living together still feels pointless, and we want our own life."
"Distance makes the heart grow fonder. We could visit often; in this way, relationships might even improve," Jiang Meiling still longed for independent family life.
