Chapter 403: Chapter 403: Watching a Movie

Tang Xiao’nan’s palms grew sweaty. The Adrian Hawthorne in her book had truly terrible luck. His youth was filled with hardship. He lost his closest family and friends again and again, his body was wracked with illness, and he had no one he could trust. Even his one dear friend, a man from a much older generation, met with a disaster.

A few years after his friend’s accident, Adrian Hawthorne had also gone to Umbara. She had no idea what he was doing there. He claimed he was expanding his business, but what kind of business could he possibly expand in Umbara? In the end, he vanished without a trace, and she was almost certain he was dead.

"What are you thinking about?"

The Mad Lord’s voice came from above her. Tang Xiao’nan quickly looked up and smiled. He patted her on the head a few times as they reached the mouth of the alley.

The Mad Lord glanced toward a corner, a faint smile playing on his lips. Will saw it too. The Mad Lord gave a slight shake of his head, signaling for him not to startle anyone. It was just two kids.

"Want to watch a movie?" the Mad Lord asked.

Tang Xiao’nan nodded. ’The big boss calls the shots.’ She had assumed they were going to a movie theater, but she had underestimated his wealth. The man had his own private screening room and a large collection of videotapes. They were all self-recorded, though; the sleeves were plain black, with only a paper label bearing the movie’s title.

"Which one’s good?" the Mad Lord asked Will. He rarely used the screening room himself.

Will didn’t have a clue, but he didn’t want to look incompetent in front of his boss. He rummaged through the pile of videotapes and picked one out. The title was *Little Treasure*.

"This must be for kids."

Will said with full confidence. ’Kids watch movies called *Little Treasure*, right?’

The Mad Lord nodded. He thought it sounded reasonable enough. He had Will put the tape in. Tang Xiao’nan yawned; she always got sleepy after a full meal. Still, she really wanted to watch a movie, so she forced her eyes wide open and stared at the screen.

The projector was excellent quality. The picture was sharp and the sound was fine. But the movie itself... didn’t seem much like a children’s film. The characters were all adults, and they were speaking Cantonese. It must have come from Port Krol.

Tang Xiao’nan sat up straight, her eyes wide. She could understand a bit of Cantonese. ’So what if it isn’t a kids’ movie? I’m an adult, I can handle it.’

The Mad Lord was about to change it, but he saw Tang Xiao’nan watching with rapt attention and decided against it. ’A kid won’t understand any of it anyway,’ he thought. ’She can just watch for the spectacle.’

In the pitch-black screening room, the two adults and one child watched intently. But the plot was taking a strange turn. A suspicion grew in Tang Xiao’nan’s mind. ’Why does the style of this look more and more like one of those adult films I used to watch?’

The man’s lecherous smile, the woman’s seductive charm... The more she watched, the more certain she became. But she couldn’t say anything. ’A six-year-old girl calling this an adult film? That’d probably be harder to believe than seeing a goddess descend from the heavens.’

Sure enough, the next scene didn’t disappoint. Staring at the screen full of flesh, she tried her best to look as innocent as possible. Inside, however, she was dying to laugh.

The Mad Lord, who had been getting surprisingly into the movie, froze when the scene suddenly changed. His face darkened instantly. He roared at the dumbfounded Will, "What is this piece of crap you picked? Change it, now!"

"Oh, oh, oh... But it’s called *Little Treasure*! How did it turn out to be... this?"

Will muttered as he fumbled to change the tape. He’d genuinely thought it was a children’s movie. Who knew it would be this kind of thing? ’It must have been Ace and those other little bastards who got this.’

"Did you see anything?" the Mad Lord asked, a little worried the chubby girl might get a sty.

Tang Xiao’nan let out a huge yawn, her eyes bleary. She looked at him in confusion and then yawned a few more times. The Mad Lord relaxed. The chubby girl hadn’t seen a thing. Perfect.
