The moment he finished speaking, Homelander turned around and casually shoved the microphone into Neuman’s arms.

His face was twitching.

He had already stopped giving a damn. Homelander knew that after a speech like that, what little approval rating he still had would definitely drop again.

But it didn’t matter anymore.

Homelander didn’t care anymore.

All he needed was... for the people who truly loved him to love him.

Neuman stood frozen in place, her face pale as paper, unable to get a single word out.

"Boom!"

A violent sonic boom exploded from the ground.

Homelander bent his knees slightly, then shot into the sky like a blur.

The powerful rush of air instantly sent a dozen protest signs in the front row flying.

Under everyone’s gaze, he flew straight into the clouds and disappeared.

The vast square went dead silent.

A rally of tens of thousands of people had fallen completely quiet.

...

...

Inside Vought Tower, in a luxurious penthouse apartment.

There was a muffled thud.

A howling wind from high above poured into the room through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Homelander took off his cape and Supersuit.

He ignored the greeting from the apartment’s smart butler and walked straight to the center of the living room.

Then, like a pile of sludge, he collapsed heavily onto his back on the wide leather sofa.

The apartment was quiet.

Homelander stared blankly at the ornate chandelier on the ceiling. Those blue eyes, usually so full of pressure and menace, now looked empty.

Homelander felt a little lost.

In front of tens of thousands of people, he had completely ripped off the mask and cursed out those idiot politicians and ignorant civilians.

It had felt damn good. Even better than beating the shit out of Doppelganger.

Homelander had stopped caring. He couldn’t even be bothered to pretend anymore, so he said every last thing he wanted to say.

And yet, even after all that, there was still a fire堵ing up his chest, a rage he couldn’t push down no matter what.

It wasn’t that he cared about losing approval ratings. He just couldn’t swallow it.

Homelander clenched his fists and thought back on everything.

Back before Soldier Boy returned, Vought International had arranged all kinds of fake scripts for him.

He smiled for the cameras, posed in front of green screens, and the public worshipped him like some god sent down to earth.

But after Soldier Boy came back...

He listened to Soldier Boy. He did plenty of good things.

Homelander truly went out and saved ordinary people. He saved an entire plane full of passengers... and he had personally used Heat Vision to burn two disgusting scumbags who tried to rape a pregnant woman into ash.

He did everything a superhero was supposed to do.

And what did he get?

Endless abuse...

Boycotts, protests, and a filthy water bottle thrown right into his chest...

...

All because he hadn’t followed the rules of the law. But if they had gone by the law, the sentences those two scumbags got never would have made up for what they did.

...

"Why...?"

Homelander didn’t understand.

He stripped naked, lay on the sofa, and contemplated his life.

Forget it. As long as his father and his son acknowledged him for what he’d done, then it was worth it.

...

...

Meanwhile, at Manhattan Plaza.

Although the protest rally had stayed quiet for a long time after Homelander left, it was now gradually turning into a complete mess.

The scene was full of chaotic noise.

Because Homelander had shown up and disrupted everything with that speech, Neuman quickly found an excuse to hastily end her address, then left under the escort of her bodyguards.

Besides, Homelander seemed to have completely changed.

Neuman had thought Homelander wanted to apologize, but it turned out that wasn’t it at all...

Had Homelander lost control?

Just as Neuman’s mind was racing, trying to work out her next political move...

"Ring, ring..."

The private phone in her bag suddenly rang.

Neuman froze.

She quickly dug out her phone. The moment she saw the caller ID, her tense nerves finally eased a little.

A cute profile picture flashed on the screen.

It was her precious baby girl, her daughter, Zoe.

Neuman took a deep breath and forced her expression under control, trying to make her voice sound as gentle as possible.

"What’s wrong, sweetheart? Mommy will be home soon."

As soon as the call connected, Zoe’s excited little voice came through.

"Mommy, Mommy! There’s a guest at home!"

Neuman paused.

A guest?

Her address was classified, and at a time like this, how could there possibly be a guest at her house?

Before she could ask, Zoe’s cheerful voice continued.

"He brought me tons and tons of yummy food!"

"There are extra-large fries from McDonald’s, and egg tarts fresh out of the oven from KFC!"

"Oh, right, right! And a five-layer beef burger from Burger King too!"

Through the phone, Neuman could even hear the little girl happily chewing.

"He said he’s waiting for you at home and wants to talk to you!"

"Mom, he’s a really handsome uncle!"
