Transmigration; Married to My Ex-Fiancé's Uncle
Chapter 425; Shuyin
"Ew," Yuyan said, though her tone was more teasing than genuinely disgusted. "I mean, I’m glad you and Papa are happy together, but I don’t need to know about the kissing and stuff."
"I completely agree," Shuyin said fervently. "We will never speak of this again."
"What are you talking about?" Chen Xiao asked, clearly confused by the entire exchange.
"Nothing," both Shuyin and Yuyan said simultaneously, then looked at each other and laughed despite the awkwardness of the moment. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Grown-up things," Yuyan told Chen Xiao with the superior air of an older sibling. "You’ll understand when you’re older."
Chen Xiao accepted this explanation with the easy trust of a young child and returned his attention to the television, apparently satisfied that if Yuyan wasn’t worried, he didn’t need to be either.
Shuyin pulled the covers higher, making sure her neck was better covered, and closed her eyes with a mental note to be more careful about visible marks in the future. Having her daughter point out evidence of her intimate activities with Lu Yuze was mortifying in ways she hadn’t fully anticipated.
But despite the embarrassment, there was something warm and comfortable about the moment. The easy teasing, the family dynamic, the sense that even awkward conversations were manageable because they had trust and love between them.
"Try to sleep, both of you," Shuyin murmured, wrapping an arm around each child and pulling them close. "We all need rest after this morning."
Yuyan snuggled closer, her earlier trembling completely gone now, replaced by the comfortable security of being surrounded by family. Chen Xiao made a small contented sound and pressed against Shuyin’s other side, his small hand fisting in her shirt as if to anchor himself.
Within minutes, both children’s breathing had evened out into the steady rhythm of sleep. Shuyin let herself relax fully for the first time since waking that morning, her body sinking into the mattress, the warmth of the children on either side creating a cocoon of safety and peace.
The television continued its gentle murmur in the background. Outside the closed door, she could hear the distant sounds of activity as the mansion staff worked with Ting Fei and Yu Shou to coordinate the massive undertaking of relocating two hundred children.
But in this room, in this moment, there was only quiet and rest and family. Shuyin let exhaustion finally claim her, drifting into sleep with her children safe beside her and the knowledge that despite the morning’s chaos, they’d handled it together and would continue to face whatever came next as a unit.
Her last conscious thought before sleep took her completely was that this, this feeling of belonging, of being part of something larger than herself, of having people to protect and who protected her in return, this was what home actually meant. Not a building or a location, but the people you chose and who chose you back.
And for the first time since the mermaid consciousness had merged with this body, Shuyin felt truly, completely at peace.

Lu Yuze made his way down the corridor from the east wing, his footsteps quiet on the polished floors as he headed toward where the coordination efforts were taking place. The sounds of activity grew louder as he approached, children’s voices, staff members giving instructions, the general organized chaos of moving two hundred people out of the mansion.
He found Ting Fei standing near the main guest wing entrance, consulting a clipboard and directing traffic with his usual efficiency. Beside him stood Ah Ling, who had evidently returned from whatever errands had taken him away earlier that morning and was now assisting with the massive relocation effort.
"Master," both Ting Fei and Ah Ling greeted in unison when they noticed his approach, bowing respectfully.
As they straightened, both guards’ eyes flickered briefly to Lu Yuze’s neck, where several scratches were visible despite not being particularly deep. The marks were accompanied by faint bruising that spoke clearly of their origin, passionate encounters that had left physical evidence on his skin. The bites and scratches told an unmistakable story to anyone who looked closely enough.
Neither of them commented, of course. It would have been deeply inappropriate to mention such things directly. But Lu Yuze could see the slight knowing expressions that crossed their faces, the subtle satisfaction in their eyes at this evidence that their master’s marriage had evolved from contractual arrangement to genuine relationship. Ting Fei and Ah Ling had both served him long enough to have witnessed Lu Yuze’s twelve years of isolated grief after his first wife’s death. Seeing him finally move forward, finally allow himself connection and intimacy again, was clearly something they welcomed.
"Mmm," Lu Yuze acknowledged their greeting with a soft sound, choosing not to address the marks they’d noticed. His private life with Shuyin was his own business, though he supposed the visible evidence made privacy somewhat moot. "How’s the progress?" he asked instead, his gaze moving past them to observe the organized movement of children being prepared for departure.
"Everything is proceeding in order," Ting Fei reported, his tone professional and efficient. "I’ve instructed several guards to escort all the children who provided information about their homes and relatives. They’ll be taken directly to local police stations where family reunification services can begin the process of contacting parents and arranging safe returns. The police have been fully briefed on the situation and are prepared to handle the cases with appropriate sensitivity."
He paused to consult his clipboard before continuing. "As for those who don’t have families to return to, the ones who were sold or orphaned, they’re being transported to the South District Hostel. Mrs. Liu, who runs the facility, arrived personally about five minutes ago to oversee the transfer and ensure the children feel safe during the transition. She seems genuinely caring, which is reassuring."
"Good," Lu Yuze said, nodding his approval. The logistics were being handled exactly as Shuyin had instructed, which meant the children would be properly cared for even as they left the mansion. "And the boy who attacked Yuyan?"
