Transmigration: On the Gossip Front
Chapter 2114 - 2115: The First Wife Driven Out of the House 34
Lin Yu glanced at Han Xue, hoping she’d soften her stance, but that was wishful thinking; she would never agree to it.
The person left to clean up the mess was none other than him, with no other choice. He had to plead and speak nicely in front of Zhang Yu to get her back to the negotiating table.
"If it weren’t for the fact that I’m late, I wouldn’t do it at all." Zhang Yu had none of the humility expected of the subcontractor, instead coming across as if she was the party in charge.
"During our collaboration, if anyone starts complaining nonsensically, the partnership will be immediately terminated, and refunds would be processed depending on the project completion." Zhang Yu had a feeling she had forgotten something important, and now she remembered—it was this.
"Regarding the contract, I feel it needs to be revised to include this," she asserted. Yes, it absolutely had to be added.
The contract was already extremely favorable to Zhang Yu. Who would have thought she’d come up with this so quickly? Lin Yu was really at a loss. "I don’t think that’s necessary."
"I think it is necessary. Look, we’ve just started collaborating, and your wife is already setting traps for me."
"I’m really worried that this will drag on. You know what, it’s better to specify this in the contract."
"Otherwise, how do we handle it if someone retaliates later?" Any agreed clauses must be documented in writing in the contract, not left as informal verbal agreements, which have no legal effect.
"If that’s okay, we should find a lawyer to amend the contract, and if there are no issues, we can sign it."
"Oh, by the way, Lin Yu, remember to cover the lawyer’s fees." There’s no way she’s paying for this. Since Lin Yu is set to gain greatly from this, why should she hesitate on this expense?
What? The lawyer’s fee eventually fell on him to pay? Lin Yu was fuming internally. Hiring a lawyer wasn’t even his idea; it was Zhang Yu’s insistence. Shouldn’t she be the one to foot the bill?
But Lin Yu wouldn’t dare express these minor frustrations, absolutely not. Sighing in resignation, Lin Yu had to find a reliable lawyer, communicate the requirements, and the other party quickly drafted a partnership contract.
After Zhang Yu swiftly reviewed it, she chuckled. In such a short time, this lawyer had already set a few traps for her. If she didn’t have good eyesight and ample previous experience with contracts, she might have fallen into them without noticing.
"This part is wrong, and this part is wrong too." Zhang Yu bluntly asked the other party to make changes.
"And seriously, are you really a lawyer?" Zhang Yu looked skeptically at the other party. "The contract you’ve drawn is really..."
"If the revisions aren’t satisfactory this time, there’s no need to collaborate any further. If just signing a contract is this problematic, it’s definitely a bad start for the partnership." Zhang Yu wasn’t about to coddle them.
Even though Han Xue appeared unfamiliar with this lawyer, the problem was that there were plenty of lawyers in Harbor City. From the place they arranged to meet to here, they passed by several reputable firms, some of which were famous across Harbor City, yet they chose this particular nondescript place. It was suspicious.
The other party thought that in such an inconspicuous place, they could easily set a small trap for this woman in front of them without being noticed.
Who would have thought she’d discover it so quickly? The lawyer was dumbfounded, looking up at Han Xue and Lin Yu.
Han Xue hadn’t expected Zhang Yu to find out, and could only helplessly nod in agreement. They tried to set a trap for Zhang Yu, but it backfired, sigh.
In no time, the revised contract was ready. After Zhang Yu read through it, she took photos and sent them to her own lawyer.
"What’s up?" Lin Yu noticed that after taking photos of the contract, Zhang Yu just sat there, unmoving.
"I sent it to my lawyer to review. I’m waiting for their feedback." Zhang Yu waved her phone around.
What? Lin Yu didn’t expect Zhang Yu to have her own lawyer and was dumbfounded. "You—you actually have a lawyer."
"Yeah, here in Harbor City, I need a lawyer for many things, plus hiring a lawyer isn’t too expensive." Zhang Yu laughed cheerfully.
Soon, a response came from the lawyer, and Zhang Yu reviewed it and asked for further revisions.
Lin Yu and Han Xue exchanged glances. They hadn’t anticipated that Zhang Yu could not only spot the issues in the contract herself but also had a lawyer on her side. What could they do?
"All set." After carefully comparing, Zhang Yu swiftly signed her name. "There’s really no need to make such a fuss."
"It’s not wasting everyone’s time." Zhang Yu remarked sarcastically. "Okay, contract’s signed, remember to transfer the payment."
Zhang Yu packed away the contract, put it in her backpack, and left without saying a word to them.
Han Xue watched Zhang Yu leave, feeling very displeased. "Look at her attitude."
"What else can we do?" Lin Yu was equally displeased but what could he do? "We’re the ones begging her now."
"Honey, just think of happy things. Once we secure this deal, good times lie ahead for us."
"Our days will keep getting better, but look at her, can her future compare to ours?"
"She’s someone who lacks long-term vision. If she were smart, she’d build a good relationship with us. Once we hold more power, a little tip-off from us could earn her a lot of money."
Han Xue initially wanted to nod, but then she thought better of it. "No, our resources can be given to many people, but certainly not to Zhang Yu."
"I’m telling you, you better not support her." Han Xue pointed directly at Lin Yu, disregarding that they were still in the law office. "Unless I’m unaware, if I find out, I absolutely won’t let you off."
"Don’t think that just because you’re in a position of power, I can’t do anything about you. I’m telling you, I can take care of you easily," Han Xue said menacingly.
Lin Yu didn’t need to look around to know that people were likely pointing fingers at him, and his face turned red with anger. He’s not stupid; he knew why Han Xue was erupting precisely at this time and place—it was to warn him to toe the line.
It would be a lie to say he’s not regretful. If he had known that getting involved with Han Xue would lead to this, he’d have thought twice.
But now that things have reached this stage, there’s no turning back for him. All he can do is keep moving forward, aiming to seize opportunities sooner.
Once he holds more power, he’ll definitely retaliate, Lin Yu vowed silently. But for now, he continued to placate a certain someone.
When Zhang Yu got home, Lin Zixuan had just arrived. "Son, how was your class today?"
"Mom, how was your day at school?" Lin Zixuan was curious about how Zhang Yu felt returning to school after a long time.
"It was alright," Zhang Yu admitted. "You learn as long as you live, and even though I haven’t been in school, I’ve often read books to improve myself."
"Now, it’s a formal start to my education."
"I think it’s okay too," Lin Zixuan replied, saying he had no issues at school today. "Though some parts of the English I didn’t understand, I looked up words in the dictionary, so it wasn’t too difficult."
"I’ve been competing academically since I was young." As a student from an academically competitive province, he had no qualms about grinding through exercises.
"I want to go buy some practice papers this weekend."
