Chapter 276: Duality Of Nobility

The next morning.

A loud horn rang throughout the camp and pulled everyone out of their sleep.

Bael, who had yet to sleep, also sat up in his bed, and his lips parted to ask about what was going on.

But before he could, the two noble boys jumped off their beds and hurriedly put on their silver armour and strapped their family swords to their waists.

Seeing that, Bael thought, ’Is this a drill or an actual emergency?’

If he wanted to, he could find out with his Zone; however, he had shrunk it because of the other Zone, which covered everything within a one-kilometer radius of the commander’s tent.

The king had yet to reach the battlefield, and the war hadn’t yet begun either. The reason why so many soldiers were here was to intercept the duke’s forces as soon as they fell in sight. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Bael stepped down from his bed and asked while forcing out a yawn, "What’s going on?"

As if practiced, Jareb and Henry looked at him at the same time and muttered with a furious look, "We are going to check the battlefield!"

’Check the battlefield?’ Bael tilted his head and muttered, "Aren’t you two nobles? Why are you doing such a thing?"

Bael didn’t ask it because he disapproved of them acting this way.

Instead, he wanted to know why they weren’t acting like the spoiled, arrogant young masters that always fell for some beauty, which then fell for the protagonist, and then the protagonist had to face-slap the young master to get the beauty.

’Why are they so responsible?’ He inwardly clicked his tongue, and the two answered with a dumbfounded expression.

"Do you think our ancestors became noble by cooping themselves up in war tents? NO!! They bleed for the kingdom! We, as the descendants, have to do the same; otherwise, what meaning do we hold? A name forged not by ourselves but by someone in the past."

They spat, their eyes burning with determination beyond their age, and they added,

"Even if we die, we would die as nobles — not by title but by self."

Hearing them, Bael’s lips arched up into a smile, and he thought, ’Why did those transmigrated or reincarnated protagonists only find those young masters but not these young-hearted nobles?’

Bael chuckled and said, "You are right. I apologise for my rude behavior."

He raised his hand towards the exit and said, "Please, show the way."

The two of them snorted and walked out of the tent while holding their helmets in their left arm.

Bael followed behind them, and the words that they had spoken were still ringing in his head.

It was truly strange; he had expected many cliches to happen, but instead he was thrown into people who tore them to pieces. First, it was Calvus Barley, and now these two.

However, each time that happened, he couldn’t help but smile brightly.

The world wasn’t as corrupt as people made it to be; the world wasn’t full of villains. They were given more attention because it took years, if not decades, to become a hero, but only a single moment to become a villain... such was life. A beautiful thing indeed.

After walking for a few minutes, they reached the eastern end of the camp, and there stood multiple soldiers, most of whom were sleepy.

The recruits and the knight trainees made the soldiers, while the knights and knight captains acted as a higher authority that connected them to the commander.

Seeing the three of them, the knight who was overseeing everything said with a wide grin, "Lord Jareb and Lord Henry, you are finally here."

Jareb and Henry smiled and responded, "It’s good to see you, Sir William."

William was a middle-aged man with styled black hair, deep brown eyes, and a fatherly face; his very presence made one feel at home.

After greeting the two exceptional noble children, William looked at the white-haired man behind them and asked, "Is that person your guard?"

The two turned towards Bael, and before they could answer, Bael bowed slightly and spoke with a hand on his heart, "I am."

Jareb and Henry looked at him with dumbfounded expressions, and he mumbled in a way that only they could hear him, "Don’t worry. You can trust me."

Even though those were the most untrustworthy words one could say, for some reason, the two nobles believed his words and muttered with a nod, "Yes. He is our guard."

"Ah... No wonder he was able to defeat Sir Hector within five minutes," William mumbled with a nod and added while chuckling, "Some even think that he is a nebula."

Hearing William, everyone’s eyes widened beyond belief, all of the sleep turned into smoke, and they looked at Bael as if they were looking at some monster.

Bael chuckled and responded while scratching the back of his head, "You praise me too much, Sir William. Sir Hector was simply looking down on me.

"Having your opponent undervalue your abilities allows you to defeat those of greater strength than yourself."

A surprised expression appeared on William’s face, and the soldiers looked as if they had just received some profound wisdom.

"You are right," William mumbled.

A scornful voice reached all of their ears, "You two always come running like dogs. Do you have no noble dignity?"

Hearing that voice, a frown appeared on William’s face, and Bael furrowed his brows. ’Is it finally happening? Am I finally going to meet spoiled, arrogant young masters?’

Jareb, Henry, and Bael turned to the left and saw a group of early twenties and teenagers walking towards them.

’Twenty,’ Bael counted.

Everyone in the group wore flashy armor with their family insignia on the chest and the cape.

Most of them had an annoying smirk on their faces, while a few had flat expressions as if nothing mattered to them.

"What do you want, Enris?" Jareb and Henry questioned flatly.

Enris, a teenage boy no older than the Jareb and Henry, brushed his long scarlet hair and muttered with a smug expression, "All I want is that you keep some dignity. If not for yourself, at least do it for your family."

His black eyes stared at everyone as if they were below him.

Hearing him, Bael’s heart skipped a beat. ’Yesss!’
