Two Realms: I Will Become the Immortal Emperor
Chapter 52 - 53: The Limit of an Ordinary Student
"Haha!"
Listening to the lively laughter in the office.
Chen Che stood to the side, forcing a smile. ’Congratulations, you’ve successfully eliminated the right answer again.’
After the laughter died down, Li Xiaoshuang’s tone shifted.
"You should get back to class. This information is a bit complicated. I’ll organize it first and send it directly to your personal database after school tonight."
"Thank you, Teacher Li!"
Chen Che was overjoyed.
This meant the teacher had agreed to guide him in condensing his Divine Sense.
As they watched Chen Che leave the office,
Yan Jun raised an eyebrow and looked at Li Xiaoshuang curiously.
"What materials are you planning to give him?"
"The curriculum for condensing Divine Sense."
Li Xiaoshuang said, opening his Micro Crystal Brain and starting to search.
Yan Jun was stunned for a moment, then exclaimed in surprise,
"Old Li, this is teaching ahead of the curriculum! Aren’t you afraid a parent will report you to the Immortal Sect’s Ministry of Education? You’ll end up in a world of trouble!"
It’s human nature to resent unfair advantages more than shared hardship. You can’t escape it anywhere.
While they weren’t afraid, it would still be a hassle.
"If a student has questions outside of class, am I not allowed to offer guidance?"
Li Xiaoshuang’s tone was natural, but tinged with a hint of regret.
"Chen Che has always aimed for the Four Great Daoist Schools, but you and I both know how hard that is. Oftentimes, diligence and hard work can never bridge the gap left by a lack of talent. The harder you try, the more you feel the despair."
"But the student hasn’t given up, so I’m not willing to give up either. If he ends up missing the Four Greats by just a few points, I’ll never be able to eat or sleep in peace."
Yan Jun fell silent as well.
Having dedicated many years to education, he had seen many students like Chen Che. The ceiling for students like him was, at best, a Yiben Daoist School.
It might seem like a small gap of just a few points, but for most people, it was an insurmountable chasm they could never cross in their entire lives!
"I’ll organize some materials too. You can help me pass them along to Chen Che."
Yan Jun also opened his computer.
"He’s my student!"
Li Xiaoshuang emphasized, his tone laced with displeasure.
"So what? Maybe after he receives my materials, he’ll be so moved that he’ll transfer to our class! Then he’ll be my student!"
Yan Jun stuck his nose in the air, his face full of scorn.
He was already imagining the look on Li Xiaoshuang’s face when Chen Che transferred to his class and he could flaunt the report card at him.
...
’This is great! The Cultivation Technique issue is solved!’
Leaving the office, Chen Che was ecstatic.
Having a teacher’s guidance was far better than fumbling around blindly with a textbook on his own.
If you could become an expert just by getting a textbook, what would be the point of teachers? What would be the point of schools?
’Still, I need to buy a set of Incense-Making Tools next!’
Concentration Incense was not a Pill, but a type of Incense Stick.
The Pill Master curriculum didn’t just cover Alchemy; it also included the creation of incense, which was considered a branch of pill-making.
Because of the Yingyue Flower, the recipe for Concentration Incense was practically common knowledge. He didn’t even need to ask Ding Dawei about the production process. Of course, for the sake of secrecy, he couldn’t consult Ding Dawei even if problems arose later.
As for the tools, they were even easier to obtain.
On his way back to the classroom, Chen Che went online and ordered a set of Incense-Making Tools from a local store with the best reviews.
The thought that he would soon be able to condense his Divine Sense made his steps much lighter.
The classroom was bustling with noise.
Many students were just fooling around. The news of Chen Che’s breakthrough had died down after just one class period. For most students, their own lives were more important.
It had only spurred on a few of the more ambitious students, who now sat silently at their desks circulating the Energy-Introducing Technique, even after class ended.
At his desk,
Qi Fengzhu was scrolling through short videos, a few other students gathered around him.
"What are you watching?" Chen Che leaned in.
"Some school organized a field trip for its students to a nature preserve today. They ran into a Golden Core Demon Beast and demonstrated the harmony between Demon Beasts and Cultivators."
Qi Fengzhu angled his phone so Chen Che could see better.
The short video was edited:
A group of elementary school students in uniforms, wearing yellow hats and carrying little red flags, were riding a Flying Boat toward a range of green mountains. In the mountains, they got to see all sorts of Demon Beasts up close. At the end, they even visited the lair of a Golden Core Great Demon.
It was a silvery-white Demon Wolf. When a brave little student patted its head, it even wagged its tail in a friendly manner.
"Holy crap, that Demon Wolf is so obedient!"
"I want a Demon Beast like that too."
"I should’ve chosen the Beast Taming Department. Then I wouldn’t have to do any Cultivation myself, just order my beast to kill, kill, kill." This came from Zong Yudao, who was genuinely too lazy to practice Cultivation. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
The others were also filled with envy.
However, most of them knew it was impossible.
Even with subsidies from the Immortal Sect, most families already felt strained supporting one student’s Cultivation, let alone supporting a Demon Beast as well.
"Which school is that? Why doesn’t our school organize field trips to the preserve?"
Chen Che’s focus was a little different.
In his first year of high school, the only school-organized trip he’d been on was to a museum, and it was just a municipal one at that.
"Rushou Attached Primary School."
"I shouldn’t have asked..."
Chen Che’s envy instantly vanished.
Rushou was one of the Four Great Daoist Schools. It had its own attached primary and middle schools. The students who attended were basically all from rich or powerful families, and at a minimum, they all had Earth Spirit Roots. Every year, at least a hundred of their students were guaranteed a spot in the Four Great Daoist Schools.
Even a second-generation rich kid from the city like Huang Zhongfei wouldn’t be qualified to get in.
As he was thinking this, he glanced at Huang Zhongfei, only to see him rummaging around inside his desk. A moment later, Huang Zhongfei let out a surprised cry, pulling out a letter and exclaiming,
"Someone wrote me a love letter again?"
Hearing the commotion, Lin Yi looked over suspiciously. "Did you give it to him?"
"Nope!"
Chen Che shook his head, a little surprised himself.
’Could a girl really be that blind?’
...
After school, Chen Che stopped by a pawn shop and exchanged a Spirit Stone.
After the handling fee, 450,000 was instantly deposited into his account.
While this was no small sum for a mortal, it was nothing to write home about for a Cultivator.
Chen Che had barely gotten home when his Incense-Making Tools arrived.
After opening the package, he found a card with a Spirit Code on it. The text read: "Scan the code and leave a 1,000-character five-star review to receive a 2-yuan reward."
"Heh."
He chuckled softly.
His habit was to either leave the default positive review or a negative one.
He inspected the equipment. The box contained containers for incense powder, a digital scale, an incense extruder, a drying rack, a straightening ruler...
The online store, as if afraid he wouldn’t know what to do, had included an instruction manual for every tool.
They even had a detailed video tutorial available after scanning the code.
"The tools are all here. Now I just have to wait for the raw materials."
Of course, the raw materials for Concentration Incense weren’t just Yingyue Flower.
It included over a dozen ingredients like Thousand Sandalwood Fragrance, Blue Silver Grass, Tea Mist Water, and Celestial Forest Wood. The production process was complex and tedious, far more so than Alchemy. After confirming there was nothing wrong with the tools, he packed them away. Once he had the materials, he could begin.
DING!
A crisp notification sound rang out.
Chen Che picked up his phone and saw that Li Xiaoshuang had sent the materials.
"Huh? There are two files?"
Chen Che paused as he opened his database.
At the same moment, a message from Li Xiaoshuang arrived:
"There are two sets of materials on condensing Divine Sense. One is from me, and the other is from Teacher Yan Jun, who asked me to forward it. You can compare the two; they should give you a more complete picture. Remember to thank him next time you see him."
"Thank you for the reminder, Teacher Li."
"Mm, go ahead and study them. If there’s anything you don’t understand, come ask me."
After that, the other side went silent.
He had clearly gone offline.
"Old Yan..."
He hadn’t expected Old Yan to get involved too.
He sighed in admiration before finally opening the files in his database.
