Ultimate Gacha System: Reborn As A Mob in My Favorite Game
Chapter 62: Festival? [III]
Klaus smiled at her enthusiasm. "Lead the way then."
Their first stop was a stall selling grilled meat skewers... The vendor had multiple varieties displayed... beef, chicken, pork, and even some exotic monster meat that supposedly had magical properties.
"I’ll take two of the honey-glazed beef skewers," Serra told the vendor, then turned to Klaus. "You should try a bite first to make sure it’s good quality!"
The vendor handed them the skewers, and Klaus took a bite from one. The meat was perfectly cooked... it was tender and juicy with a sweet glaze that balanced nicely with the savory flavor.
"It’s quite good," Klaus confirmed.
"Oh, that’s great!" Serra said brightly, then immediately took a bite from the exact same spot on the skewer where Klaus’s mouth had just been. "Mmm! You’re right, it is delicious!"
Klaus noticed this but chose not to comment on the obvious indirect kiss. They moved to the next stall which was a dessert vendor selling candied fruits on sticks.
"These look amazing!" Serra said, her eyes sparkling. "The apples are coated in this hard sugar shell! Klaus, you should taste-test this one too!"
Klaus took a bite of the candied apple, the sweet coating crunching satisfyingly before giving way to the tart fruit underneath.
"Good balance of sweet and sour..." Klaus said.
Serra immediately bit from the same location. "Oh wow, you’re totally right! The contrast is perfect!"
This pattern continued for several more food stalls.
Every time, Serra would insist Klaus try the food first "to make sure it was good," and then she’d take a bite from the exact same spot he had.
At one point, they bought fluffy cotton candy, and Serra somehow managed to position herself so they were both eating from opposite sides of the same cloud of spun sugar with their faces gradually getting closer as the candy dissolved between them.
"This is fun!" Serra said happily, her face slightly flushed either from the sweetness or from how close they were standing.
After food came the games... Serra spotted a goldfish scooping stall and practically dragged Klaus over.
"I’ve always wanted to try this!" she explained.
The game involved using a fragile paper net to scoop goldfish from a large tub. The paper would break after getting too wet, so you had to be quick and skilled.
The vendor handed Serra a paper net and gestured to the tub full of orange and white goldfish swimming around.
"You get to keep any fish you manage to scoop before your net breaks!" the vendor explained.
Serra crouched down beside the tub and focused intensely with her tongue sticking out slightly in concentration.
She lowered the net into the water and carefully positioned it under a slow-moving goldfish.
SCOOP!
She got one! Serra quickly transferred it to the collection bowl.
"I did it!" she celebrated, then immediately went for a second fish.
Her technique was actually quite good... she’d scoop quickly and smoothly, minimizing the time the paper spent in water.
SCOOP! SCOOP!
Two more fish successfully caught but on her fourth attempt, the paper finally broke apart from the water damage.
"Aww," Serra pouted at her torn net, then brightened immediately. "But I got three whole fish! That’s pretty good, right?"
"Very impressive..." Klaus agreed honestly.
"Now you try!" Serra insisted.
Klaus took a net and managed to catch four goldfish before his paper broke. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"Show-off..." Serra teased, but she was smiling. The vendor provided them with a small glass bowl to carry their seven fish in, along with some food flakes.
"Now I need to name them all," Serra announced seriously. "Let’s see... I’ll call mine Klaus One, Klaus Two, and Klaus Three! And you should name yours Serra One through Four!"
"Please don’t name goldfish after me," Klaus said with mild exasperation. "Besides I don’t want goldfish..."
"Too late Boss, They’re already named..." Serra declared triumphantly. "We now have seven children together... fish children, but still!"
Klaus decided this was a battle not worth fighting. They visited a few more game stalls... Serra won a small stuffed rabbit at a ring toss game, Klaus won a decorative fan at a dart-throwing booth and they sampled warm pastries filled with sweet cream and chunks of fruit.
By the time Serra’s timer started getting close to the end, they were both carrying various prizes and half-eaten snacks.
"This has been really nice," Serra said softly. "Thank you for spending time with me, Boss."
"We’re not finished yet," Klaus pointed out. "You still have a few minutes."
"I know, but I wanted to say it anyway," Serra smiled. "Sometimes you have to say these things before the moment passes."
RING RING RING!
Serra’s timer went off right on schedule.
"Aw, already?" Serra pouted dramatically, but her expression was mostly playful. "Time really does fly when you’re having fun..."
They walked back to the meeting point where the other girls were waiting, Serra still carefully carrying her bowl of goldfish.
"How was your time?" Taula asked.
"Perfect!" Serra said. "We got children together!"
"You did what?!" all the other girls exclaimed simultaneously.
"Fish children!" Serra clarified quickly. "Seven goldfish! It’s basically the same thing!"
"It’s absolutely not the same thing," Klaus said flatly.
Next was Taula’s turn.
"Finally!" Taula said, practically vibrating with excitement. "I’ve been waiting forever for my turn!"
She grabbed Klaus’s hand and started pulling him deeper into the festival, weaving through crowds with ease.
"I have a whole plan!" Taula announced. "Places I want to visit, things I want to see, items I want to get... I’ve been thinking about this the entire time!"
"You put a lot of thought into this," Klaus observed with amusement.
"Of course I did! It’s my precious thirty minutes with you..."
They walked past various stalls, and Taula’s eyes kept darting around as if searching for something specific.
Finally, she spotted what she’d been looking for... a small shop tucked between two larger stalls, selling various handmade accessories and charms.
"There!" Taula pointed. "That’s the first stop Zephyra told me about..."
The shop had displays of wooden carvings, metal pendants, leather bracelets, and decorative beads arranged in neat rows.
An elderly craftsman sat behind the counter, carving a new piece with skill. Taula immediately gravitated toward a particular display case containing matching sets of carved wooden charms.
"Look at these!" Taula said excitedly, pressing her face close to the glass. "They’re matching charm pairs! See, there are wolves, bears, eagles, dragons... all carved in pairs so two people can each have one!"
She pointed specifically at a set of two small wolf charms, each one intricately carved with detailed fur texture and fierce expressions.
"These wolf ones are perfect!" Taula said. "We should totally get them!"
"Matching charms?" Klaus raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah!" Taula’s face was turning slightly red as she explained. "One for you, one for me! That way, we’ll always have something physical that reminds us of each other whenever we’re apart!"
She looked up at him hopefully. "Don’t you think that’s a good idea?"
Klaus smiled gently. "Alright, if that’s what you want, then let’s get them."
"Really?!" Taula’s face lit up like the sun.
They purchased the matching wolf charms from the craftsman, who wrapped them carefully in cloth. Taula immediately removed hers from the wrapping and attached it to her belt where it would always be visible and accessible.
She held up Klaus’s charm. "Here, let me attach it for you too!"
Klaus bent down slightly so Taula could reach his belt more easily, and she carefully secured the charm in a position that mirrored her own.
"Perfect!" Taula said, stepping back to admire her work. "Now we match!"
They continued walking through the festival, and Taula kept glancing at Klaus’s belt where the charm hung, a satisfied smile on her face.
As they rounded a corner, they came across a fortune teller’s tent that Klaus hadn’t noticed during his time with the other girls.
It was an elaborate structure with deep purple curtains embroidered with golden stars and moons. Smoke drifted lazily from incense burners positioned at the entrance, creating an air of mystery and mysticism.
"Ooh!" Taula’s eyes went wide. "A fortune teller! Let’s get our fortunes read..."
"Really?" Klaus was skeptical. "Fortune telling is usually just—"
"Come on!" Taula was already pulling him toward the tent entrance. "Don’t be boring! Everyone should have their fortune read at a festival!"
The interior of the tent was dimly lit by dozens of candles positioned strategically around the space, their flickering light creating dancing shadows on the fabric walls.
An elderly woman with long silver hair that was obviously colored and mysterious pale eyes sat cross-legged behind a small wooden table covered in mystical items with crystal balls of various sizes, tarot cards with worn edges, rune stones carved from different minerals, and other divination tools.
"Welcome, young ones," the fortune teller said in a deliberately mystical voice, gesturing to cushions positioned across from her. "Please, sit. The spirits have been expecting you."
Taula sat down eagerly, pulling Klaus down beside her.
"The spirits knew we were coming?" Taula whispered.
"They always do," the fortune teller said with a knowing smile. "Now, let me see what fate has in store for you both."
She reached across the table and took Taula’s hand, turning it palm-up and studying the lines carefully with intense focus.
The fortune teller traced one line with a gnarled finger, humming thoughtfully.
"Ah, I see..." the woman said cryptically, her voice taking on an even more dramatic tone. "Your love line is strong and clear. You, young lady, will indeed be married to the person you truly love with all your heart. The person who occupies your thoughts day and night, the one who makes your heart race when they’re near."
Taula’s face turned bright red and she shot a quick glance at Klaus, who was sitting beside her looking thoroughly unimpressed.
"And children..." the fortune teller continued, squinting at Taula’s palm. "You shall have... let me see... five children. No, wait..."
The woman leaned in even closer, her nose nearly touching Taula’s hand.
"Actually, I’m seeing more. Much more. Ten children! Yes, definitely ten children! A large, happy family filled with laughter and chaos!"
"T-T-TEN?!" Taula sputtered, her face going from red to practically crimson. "That’s... that’s a lot of children!"
"The spirits are never wrong..." the fortune teller said with absolute certainty then she released Taula’s hand and turned her attention to Klaus, reaching out expectantly.
Klaus sighed but extended his hand, deciding to just go along with this obvious scam.
The fortune teller grabbed his hand with surprising strength and pulled it close to her face, her pale eyes going wide as she examined his palm.
"You..." she said dramatically, her voice rising with intensity. "Oh my. Oh MY. The spirits have much to say about you, young man!"
She traced several lines on his palm with her finger, making exaggerated expressions of shock and amazement.
"You will be surrounded by many women!" the fortune teller declared loudly. "Not just a few, but a multitude! Women who love you completely, absolutely, unconditionally! Each one devoted to you in their own unique way!"
Klaus could feel Taula tensing beside him.
"All different types!" the woman continued enthusiastically. "Yanderes who would kill anyone who threatens you! Kuuderes who hide their deep feelings behind cold exteriors! Tsunderes who deny their affection while blushing furiously! Derederes who openly adore you without shame! Danderes who are too shy to speak but show their love through actions! The spirits show me at least a dozen different archetypes surrounding you!"
Klaus ran his hand down his face in exasperation.
’This is literally the most generic, cliche fortune telling scene I’ve ever experienced in my life,’ Klaus thought wearily. ’These are just stock predictions... Isn’t she even bothering to look at how I’m dressed? I’m obviously a commoner. Why would any of this happen to someone of my social status?’
"And children!" the fortune teller’s voice reached a crescendo. "So many children! Your bloodline will be legendary! Dozens of descendants, each one carrying your strength and potential! You will father a dynasty!"
She released Klaus’s hand and sat back with a satisfied expression.
"This is your fate as revealed by the spirits," she declared. "Do you accept what I have seen?"
"Sure, why not?" Klaus said flatly.
"And!" the fortune teller added quickly, reaching under her table and pulling out two small charm pendants. "To seal these fortunes and help bring them to fruition in the physical realm..."
She held up the charms... one carved with a sun symbol, one with a moon symbol, both hanging from delicate chains.
"You must wear these matching celestial charms! The sun and moon represent the eternal cycle, the balance of masculine and feminine energies! Together, they will bind your fates and ensure happiness flows to you both!"
Klaus recognized a sales pitch when he heard one.
"How much?" he asked tiredly.
"Only two silver coins for both charms and their blessing!" the fortune teller said with a wide smile. Klaus paid, and they were handed the sun and moon pendants.
As they exited the tent, Taula was practically glowing with happiness despite or perhaps because of the embarrassing fortune.
"Ten children..." she muttered to herself, a small smile playing on her lips. "That’s a big family..."
RING RING RING!
Taula’s timer went off right on schedule.
"No! I want more time!" Taula complained, actually stamping her foot in frustration. "Thirty minutes isn’t nearly enough..."
But she reluctantly handed Klaus over to Zephyra for the final time slot. Finally, it was Zephyra’s turn... the last of the four thirty-minute time slots.
She immediately linked her arm through Klaus’s and pressed herself close to his side, clinging to him much more openly and possessively than any of the other girls had dared.
"I’ve been waiting so long for this moment," Zephyra said happily. "Watching everyone else have their time with you was torture."
They walked together through the festival, and Klaus noticed that despite her cheerful demeanor, Zephyra seemed slightly more subdued than usual... There was probably something weighing on her mind.
"Is something wrong?" Klaus asked gently. Zephyra was quiet for a moment before responding.
"I was actually planning to tell you something important..." She said slowly and Klaus’s eyes widened.
"Oh me too... I’ve made a decision. I’m planning to head back to Galen Town tomorrow morning."
"Oh..." Zephyra processed this. "I’ll put the Moonstone Residence under proper maintenance then. I’ll make sure to fix anything I accidentally broke during our stay there."
He was thinking about the bedroom door she’d nearly ripped off its hinges, and several pieces of furniture that had been damaged during her more... enthusiastic moments.
"That’s fine, that’s fine," Zephyra said quickly, waving her hand dismissively. "I’ll cover all the repair costs, obviously. But that’s not the main thing I needed to tell you."
She tightened her grip on his arm.
"As much as I desperately want to come with you back to Galen Town and continue living together..." Zephyra’s voice became more serious. "I actually have to return to the Capital instead."
"The Capital?" Klaus asked with genuine surprise. "Why would you need to go all the way there?"
The Capital was the seat of government for the entire kingdom... a massive city that dwarfed even Rivera, located hundreds of miles away.
"Since I broke the seal on my male form transformation... the one placed on me years ago since I was a child... I need to go confront him about it directly," she explained. "And my younger sister will probably be there too, which makes it even more complicated."
She looked up at Klaus with determination in her eyes.
"It’s messy family politics involving succession rights and magical inheritances and a bunch of other noble house nonsense," Zephyra continued. "But I have to face it head-on now that the seal is broken. I can’t just ignore it and hope it goes away."
Klaus nodded in understanding. Noble family politics were always complicated, from what he’d observed in the game.
"You shouldn’t worry about me though!" Zephyra insisted, squeezing his arm. "I’ll be completely fine! "
"I’m not worried," Klaus said honestly.
Zephyra stopped walking abruptly and turned to face him directly, her expression somewhere between annoyed and amused.
"You better be at least a little bit worried about me!" she insisted, poking him in the chest. "That’s what fiancés are supposed to do! They worry about each other when they’re apart..."
"If you insist," Klaus said with a small smile.
"I do insist!" Zephyra declared, then immediately grabbed his hand again and started pulling him toward a specific direction. "Now come on! We’re getting our pictures taken together before I have to leave tomorrow!"
They approached a booth that advertised "Magical Photography... Instant Memories Captured Forever!" in colorful letters.
The booth itself was decorated with example photos showing couples, families, and friend groups in various poses.
A cheerful middle-aged woman operated the equipment which was a complex magical apparatus involving crystal lenses, mana-focusing arrays, and light-capturing enchantments.
"Welcome, welcome!" the photographer greeted them enthusiastically. "Looking to capture some special memories today?"
"Yes!" Zephyra said firmly. "We want the full package! As many photos as you can take!"
"Wonderful! Our basic package is two silver coins per photo, or we have a premium package of five photos for eight silver coins total, which includes some nice decorative framing options and—"
Zephyra reached into her coin pouch and slapped an entire gold coin down on the counter with emphasis.
"Keep the change," Zephyra said. "We want the absolute best service you can provide."
The photographer’s eyes went wide at the generous payment, which was easily four or five times what her premium package cost.
"Of course, my lady! Right this way!" she said, suddenly much more energetic. "You’ll get the royal treatment!"
Zephyra pulled Klaus into the photography booth area, which had several painted backdrop options available.
"Which background do you want?" the photographer asked, gesturing to the choices... a garden scene, a castle balcony, a mountain vista, and a beach sunset.
"The garden one!" Zephyra decided immediately.
The photographer quickly arranged the backdrop and positioned them in front of it.
"Alright, for our first photo, let’s start with a classic pose!" she directed. "Stand together naturally and give me your biggest smiles!"
Zephyra immediately pressed against Klaus’s side and beamed at the camera and Klaus managed something like a smile.
FLASH!
The magical camera captured the image instantly, the crystal lens glowing briefly.
"Perfect! Now for the second one..." The photographer thought for a moment. "Let’s try something more intimate! Hold hands and look at each other instead of the camera!"
Zephyra interlaced her fingers with Klaus’s and turned to face him, Klaus found himself looking back at her, and for a moment they just stood there gazing at each other.
FLASH!
"Beautiful!" the photographer praised. "That’s going to be a lovely one! Now, for this next photo..."
She reached over and grabbed a stick of pink cotton candy from a nearby vendor, quickly paying for it with some of the generous tip Zephyra had provided.
"I want you both to share this sweet treat!" the photographer instructed. "Take bites from opposite ends at the same time, so your faces are close together!"
Zephyra’s face lit up at this suggestion.
"Oh, I like this idea..." she said.
She held the cotton candy stick horizontally between them, positioning one end near her own mouth and the other end near Klaus’s.
They both leaned in simultaneously, taking small bites from their respective ends of the fluffy pink sugar cloud.
As they ate, their faces gradually got closer and closer together, separated by less and less cotton candy.
FLASH!
The photographer captured the moment when they were mere inches apart, both holding the same piece of cotton candy.
"Adorable!" the woman gushed. "Young love is so sweet!"
"We’re engaged, actually," Zephyra said proudly, then took another bite of the cotton candy while maintaining eye contact with Klaus.
"Even better! Now let’s do a fun one!" the photographer suggested. "I want you both to make the silliest faces you can! Really let loose!"
Zephyra immediately crossed her eyes and puffed out her cheeks.
