Unrivaled Soldier in the City
Chapter 515: Beautiful Woman Visits
Tang Yu naturally understood what Lin Kuang meant. In a struggle like this, let alone people like Yi Feng, even some individuals with powerful connections wouldn’t dare to rashly side with the Lin Family.
With Old Master Lin on his deathbed, who would dare to align with the Lin Family at a time like this? The only exceptions would be the old man’s most trusted confidants. After all, the Lin Family’s meteoric rise to power was entirely due to Old Master Lin’s terrifying Energy in the military. It was no exaggeration to say that the majority of high-ranking officers in various provinces and cities were soldiers the old man had personally trained.
This was also why Old Master Lin commanded such extraordinary authority in the military. A single word from him could mobilize thousands of troops, and this was no empty boast. But once Old Master Lin fell, those who supported him would likely depart as well. This was no longer the era of forging an empire; society was now driven by self-interest, and in the eyes of some, personal relationships weren’t worth a dime.
"Lin Kuang, I’ve persuaded my father," Tang Yu said earnestly. "Rest assured, while the Tang Family may not be immensely influential, we absolutely will not sit by and do nothing."
Truthfully, choosing to side with the Lin Family at this moment was a monumental gamble. Winning the bet meant they could defy fate; losing meant certain death. In other words, choosing the Lin Family was an all-or-nothing gamble with no path of retreat—not something an ordinary person would dare to risk their entire family on.
Hearing Tang Yu’s words, Lin Kuang’s expression shifted. He wasn’t a fool; he knew exactly what Tang Yu’s actions signified. It was providing crucial help in his time of greatest need.
Lin Kuang let out a long breath. "Brother Tang, rest assured, I won’t let you down," he said, his tone solemn. "Even without the Old Master, the Lin Family is still the Lin Family! No matter who tries to make a move on us, I guarantee they will meet certain death!"
In truth, Lin Kuang was confident he could resolve the Lin Family’s crisis.
The Wumi Building was an incredibly powerful and formidable organization. With its help, it wasn’t that no one would dare to touch the Lin Family, but they would have to think long and hard before acting. After all, the Wumi Building’s power was clear for all to see. However, Lin Kuang didn’t want to use that power, as it belonged to Old Liu. He had no intention of revealing its existence unless absolutely necessary. Moreover, the Wumi Building was his trump card, one he would only play when forced into a corner.
Hearing Lin Kuang’s arrogant and somewhat domineering words, Tang Yu couldn’t help but smile. "Of course I believe you. This is the Lin Kuang I know—arrogant, conceited, and domineering!"
Lin Kuang was slightly taken aback, then smiled bitterly. "Brother Tang, are you praising me or insulting me?"
"Haha, of course I’m praising you!" Tang Yu laughed, his mood clearly excellent. "Tonight, let’s go for a few drinks! We’ll hit the food stalls for some skewers!"
"Deal. It’s been over a year since we drank together. We’re not going home until we’re drunk," Lin Kuang replied with a smile.
"Alright, that’s settled then. We should get going. We only snuck out for a bit, and it’ll be a hassle if we get back too late," Tang Yu said, getting to his feet with a smile.
Lin Kuang nodded and didn’t try to stop them. "Okay, Brother Tang, Yi Feng, Zhang Chao, Zheng An, take care. We’ll see each other again."
"Alright," Tang Yu and the other three replied with a smile. Lin Kuang walked them to their car, and the four of them drove away.
Watching them leave, Lin Kuang smiled and was about to head back to his room. Just then, another car pulled up, prompting him to turn and look. With his sharp eyesight, he could clearly identify the driver as Xu Yingying. Sitting in the passenger seat was her best friend, Yao Wenwen.
Seeing them arrive, Lin Kuang looked a bit puzzled, but he still stood smiling by the door, waiting for the two women to approach. In a moment, Xu Yingying parked the car by the roadside, and the two of them got out.
"Ladies, what brings you to my humble abode?" Lin Kuang asked with a smile.
"It was Yingying’s idea to come. You think I wanted to be here?" Yao Wenwen retorted irritably.
"Oh, I was just being polite by including you. My question was really for Yingying; your answer doesn’t matter either way," Lin Kuang said with a grin. His words made Yao Wenwen’s face turn crimson, and she stood there grinding her teeth.
Doesn’t this jerk know how to give a girl some face? Yao Wenwen fumed.
Just then, Xu Yingying walked over, giving them both a helpless look. "You two, can you go one minute without bickering? Don’t tell me you actually like each other?" she asked with a smile.
"How could I possibly like her?"
"How could I possibly like him?"
Lin Kuang and Yao Wenwen spoke in perfect unison. Afterward, they both froze and stared at each other.
"Jerk, why are you copying me!" Yao Wenwen snapped, her face flushing red.
"Ahem. It seems to me I said it first," Lin Kuang defended himself with a smirk.
"I definitely said it first!" Yao Wenwen argued stubbornly.
"Alright, that’s enough! You said it at the same time, so what is there to argue about?" Xu Yingying quickly intervened. Otherwise, who knew how long the two of them would go on? 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Hearing Xu Yingying, Yao Wenwen finally fell silent, though not before aiming a heavy snort at Lin Kuang. He simply rolled his eyes and ignored her, which only infuriated her more. She gnashed her teeth and stomped her foot, looking like she wanted to slap him a couple of times.
Looking at Xu Yingying’s lovely face, Lin Kuang smiled. "Yingying, you’re here for a reason, right?"
Ever since he was a child, he loved sticking by Xu Yingying’s side. Now that he was grown up, that feeling hadn’t faded; if anything, it had only deepened with time.
Xu Yingying nodded. "Yes, I do have something to discuss. Let’s talk inside."
"Alright, let’s go inside," Lin Kuang agreed, leading her into the room.
Yao Wenwen naturally followed them in. Though still annoyed, she was driven by a curiosity she couldn’t quite name. When she saw Lin Kuang’s room, she was taken aback.
She had assumed his place would be luxurious, if not opulent, but it was actually quite simple.
The room was furnished with an old mahogany table, chairs, and bed. Though aged, everything was spotless. The white sheets on the bed were slightly wrinkled, obviously from being sat on. The quilt, however, was folded with military precision, its edges so sharp and clean they looked as if they had been cut with a knife.
Seeing this, Yao Wenwen couldn’t help but blush. My own room has never been this tidy.
