Venerable Demon Chef
Chapter 119 - 117: Zhang Shao Backs Down
Stared down by Brother Ni, Zhang Shao’s face paled, and he stumbled back.
He glanced at Second Brother Ni and Third Brother Ni, his voice trembling. "You... No, you are the Void Three Slaughters from over a thousand years ago?"
"Oh ho! Not bad, kid. You’ve seen a thing or two, recognizing us like that. But..." Brother Ni’s tone suddenly changed as he sent Zhang Shao flying with a backhand slap.
"Is that what this old man asked you?!"
Half of Zhang Shao’s face swelled up, the red imprint of a hand clearly visible.
A cold glint flashed in his eyes, but he quickly concealed it.
The Void Three Slaughters, three legendary brothers from the Void Sect over a thousand years ago.
Their talent had once been so exceptional that they were forcibly taken away by the Mountain and Sea Empire.
But for some unknown reason, they eventually returned to the Void Sect. They were immensely powerful and had violent tempers, known for launching into killing sprees at the slightest disagreement, which had earned them the title of the "Three Slaughters."
"Senior, you’ve had your strike, but don’t push it too far!" Zhang Shao said in a low voice. "This junior may not be your match, but my Wolf Fang Sect has never feared anyone!"
Brother Ni sneered. "Kids these days are getting more and more arrogant. Forget you—even Old Dog Cang wouldn’t dare speak to this old man like that!"
"How dare you insult my grandmaster!" Zhang Shao roared, once again taking out a Sound Transmission Talisman.
The Old Dog Cang Brother Ni spoke of was the Wolf Fang Sect’s leader from two generations prior, an expert from the same era as the Ni Brothers.
He was called "Old Dog Cang" simply because his Beast Pet was a Hellhound and he shared some past grievances with Brother Ni.
"Insult him? I’d call him that even if Old Dog Cang were standing right here!" Brother Ni said with utter contempt. "And stop posturing in front of this old man. Those three hundred thousand Beast Soldiers you have ready? Believe it or not, I could wipe them all out in less than ten minutes!"
"You wouldn’t dare!" Zhang Shao’s expression froze. "The Mountain and Sea Empire has an ironclad rule: experts who have surpassed the Void Realm cannot interfere in matters between Cultivators and Sects, and they absolutely cannot attack Low-Tier Cultivators!"
"If you attack the Beast Soldiers, the Mountain and Sea Empire will immediately dispatch its own experts to eliminate you!"
Once a Cultivator surpasses the Void Realm, their power and destructive capabilities are great enough to threaten the very balance of the Mountain and Sea Empire.
If such experts were to fight without restraint, it would throw the entire Empire into turmoil and lead to the destruction of countless lives.
Therefore, the Mountain and Sea Empire established an ironclad rule: experts who have surpassed the Void Realm are strictly forbidden from taking action, unless their own lives are in danger or their Sect is facing annihilation.
Violators would be hunted relentlessly by the Empire’s experts until they were dead.
Brother Ni stared at Zhang Shao and said, "Trying to scare me with the Empire’s rules? Go on, give it a shot. See if this old man dares."
Would Zhang Shao dare to test him? Of course not!
Who were the Void Three Slaughters?
They were the kind of ruthless men who, back in the day, had dared to behead the children of several Princes right in front of them!
Was there anything they wouldn’t do?
With the conversation having come this far, Zhang Shao didn’t dare gamble with his own life.
’What if they really don’t care about the Mountain and Sea Empire’s rules and just kill me right here, just like that? Who would I even go to for justice?’
"Senior, this junior came today because Mo Qi killed my son. As a father avenging his son, that’s not too much to ask, is it?" Zhang Shao’s tone had softened considerably. This was the first time he had backed down since arriving at the Void Sect.
"The feud from the murder of one’s son is irreconcilable. It’s not too much to ask at all." Brother Ni shook his head, then added, "So, does that mean you want to discuss the details of how Mo Qi killed your son?"
"But don’t blame this old man for not warning you: everything happens for a reason. If a personal grudge accidentally gets escalated to a conflict between Sects, then it’s no longer a simple matter of whether you’ve gone too far or not."
Zhang Shao was furious, but there was nothing he could do besides clench his fists.
Brother Ni’s meaning was simple: Why did Mo Qi kill Zhang Cheng? It was because the Wolf Fang Sect had been pulling tricks regarding the Earth-level Spiritual Ore.
For instance, the Beast Tide, and the attempt to sabotage them by secretly entering the ore deposit.
If they were to truly air out all the details, the issue would no longer be just a personal grudge over Mo Qi killing Zhang Cheng. It would escalate into the overall conflict between the Void Sect and the Wolf Fang Sect concerning the Earth-level Spiritual Ore.
Before the Ni Brothers had shown up, Zhang Shao wouldn’t have cared; he would have willingly launched a full-scale war between their Sects.
But now that the Ni Brothers were dead set on protecting Mo Qi, Zhang Shao wasn’t sure if his own Sect’s ancestor-level experts would intervene on his behalf. After all, strictly speaking, the entire incident had started because of his personal grudge.
After a long silence, Zhang Shao gritted his teeth.
"Fine. Out of respect for you Seniors, I will let this matter go for now."
Zhang Shao was a smart man. He knew that no matter what, he couldn’t touch Mo Qi today.
’So instead of wasting my time here on a futile effort, it’s better to retreat for now and come up with another plan.’
"Hold on!"
Just as Zhang Shao was about to leave with his men, Mo Qi spoke up.
"What? You think you can just injure my people and walk away?"
’Because of me, Yang Ming and Jin Sanpang were injured by Zhang Shao, and Liu Hui almost died at the hands of that man in the black cloak. If I just let Zhang Shao walk away after all that, I wouldn’t be Mo Qi.’
Zhang Shao froze, ignoring Mo Qi to look at the Ni Brothers instead.
’For Mo Qi to dare say something like that,’ he thought, ’it must be at the behest of these three.’
However, the Ni Brothers simply shrugged innocently, as if to say they had no idea what Mo Qi was planning but would support him regardless.
"Mo Qi, are you thinking of using the three Seniors to try and keep me here?"
It would be a lie to say Zhang Shao wasn’t panicking internally.
He was strong, but in front of the Ni Brothers, he was so outmatched he wouldn’t even have a chance to escape, let alone fight.
"Relying on others’ power is hardly a skill!"
Mo Qi smiled. "Don’t bother with the taunts. Rest assured, since this is a conflict between us, I have no intention of relying on others."
Zhang Shao’s gaze narrowed. He had no idea what Mo Qi was planning.
"What do you propose?"
Mo Qi didn’t answer him. Instead, he walked over to Yang Ming, glanced at his injured hand, and asked, "Senior Brother, do you want to get revenge with your own hands?"
"I do, of course I do!" Yang Ming’s breath hitched. He glanced at Zhang Shao and sighed. "But unfortunately, I only recently broke through to the Void Realm. I’m no match for him."
Mo Qi gave a sly grin. "Senior Brother, do you trust me?"
"You saved my life. If I don’t trust you, who else is there?" Yang Ming declared with a hearty laugh.
"Good. In that case, try this." Mo Qi took out a large pot containing the leftover broth from the hot pot they’d eaten in the Secret Realm.
He ladled a bowlful and handed it to Yang Ming.
"You’re going to fight Zhang Shao in a little while. Don’t worry. With me here, I guarantee you’ll get the revenge you want."
Yang Ming didn’t even hear the rest of Mo Qi’s words. His attention was completely captivated by the bowl of broth.
Its slightly pungent, spicy scent couldn’t conceal the rich, mellow aroma within; a single whiff was intoxicating.
A faint spiritual light shimmered within it, like a crimson galaxy, dazzling the eye.
Beside them, Yu Liang and the others’ eyes were glued to the bowl. Having all experienced Mo Qi’s Medicinal Cuisine before, they were incredibly envious.
The most exaggerated reaction came from Jin Sanpang. His mouth hung wide open as a pool of drool formed at his feet.
Mo Qi didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at the sight, so he simply passed the whole pot over.
"No fighting. There’s enough for each of you to have a bowl. Right, and give some to the disciples who were injured in the earlier spars. It’ll be good for them."
With that said, Mo Qi walked to the center of the hall. His gaze traveled past Zhang Shao and locked onto the figure in the black robe and cloak.
"From the moment you walked through that door, your killing intent has been fixed on me. I’ll grant your wish. Come! Let’s you and I have a battle!"
