Chapter 243: The Old Familiar

After an inspection at the gate, to ensure they weren’t bringing in any illegal materials or smuggling any criminals, the convoy limped into the city of Grizal and disbanded. Some of the merchants going to their stores, some going off to the farmlands that they actually belonged to, whilst a few of them found places to rest for the night before they continued to travel for the foreseeable future.

"Well, it was lovely to have you body-guarding for me this trip. Even if I did have to save your ass in the end, I still owe you a basic payment." Midas said with a laugh, handing Belladonna a handful of glimmering coins that she quickly squirrelled away into her bag.

"You’re heading to the capital city, right?" She asked as she hopped off of the cart and brushed herself off.

"I don’t know how you are gonna survive going all that way without me." Belladonna added with a laugh.

"Oh, I have a feeling that I will actually do much better without you. You might be a wonderful investor, but you seem to have this way of attracting trouble." Midas replied, before they both broke out into laughter.

"Yeah, I guess you are right. I kinda do." Belladonna chuckled, glancing over her shoulder.

"Well... If my source is to be believed, and sometimes he isn’t, my target should be around this area. So it’s time I moved on. Good luck with the rest of your journey, and don’t forget about helping out your investor now and then."

"You got it. Until we meet again, most likely in some kind of bloody melee or world ending event. I know that if I need to find you again, I should just follow the smell of blood. Where else would I find the Baroness of Blood." Midas chuckled, before giving her an exaggerated bow, that Belladonna dramatically returned, before they moved off in different directions.

Although that didn’t last long, as when Belladonna was only a few metres away, a cart quickly trundled up beside her before slowing to match her pace.

"Oh, I almost forgot!" Midas shouted from the drivers seat, before stopping and lowering his voice, "One of the noble merchants told me to warn you about using your ’natural abilities’, like the mind control one. He said something about the Fell-spawn clans, and that there are people who would see you as a prime target.

Does that mean anything to you?"

Belladonna frowned, rolling the words back and forth in her mind for a moment before nodding and smiling,

"Yeah, it does. Thanks for that Midas. Good luck in the capital, I’ll try visit sometime in the future. I’m sure you will do great there." She said as she patted the side of the cart, before they actually parted ways for real this time.

Making her way through the town, Belladonna asked for a few directions from the locals, before finding a secluded area to log off for five minutes, just to get her real life needs in order. As it turned out, despite playing for nearly an entire day, she didn’t feel hungry in the slightest.

She tried to eat anyways, just so she didn’t have any more hunger incidents, but everything that touched her tongue simply tasted bland and miserable, even more so than it usually did. After her mini vacation with Percy she didn’t even have any fresh meat and her funds were running dry after her plant splurge.

Thankfully her eager Thrall, who was still standing over her when she logged out, had offered to buy some food for her with her own money. So Bai Yin rushed off to get some fresh, bloody meat while Valerie logged back in and took the role of Belladonna again.

With that sorted out Belladonna, and the still wounded Beans, made their way through the strange city until they came across a familiar sight. A round tower that suck out like a sore thumb in the market district, and had a magically glowing sign hanging above its simple wooden door.

Channelling some mana from the ambient air around her, Belladonna stepped into the lowest level of the local ’Tower of Mystica’ and was immediately taken aback by the familiar sight.

With her world taken over by corporations, Belladonna was used to franchises and blueprinted copy pasted buildings that sprouted up in far too little time to be truly safe. But even in those cases, there was always some differences.

A slightly faulty printer making a weird wall, a weird quirk of the terrain causing the franchise to have to build around it, even just an old poster the staff hadn’t taken down yet. Things like that. Nothing you would truly think of at the time, but you would subconsciously notice and come to associate with the different locations of similar buildings.

But this tower was exactly the same. Exactly. Down to every single minute detail, including the receptionist sitting behind the desk and smiling at her, and the Hellion standing in the corner.

The only thing that was actually different was non-staff individuals milling about in the lobby, and the quests posted on the board to her side.

Casting the receptionist a suspicious glare, to which she got a bubbly smile and a playful wave in return, Belladonna hurried over to the mission board and rapidly scanned the different sheets. They were all naturally written in this worlds languages, but their translations were projected in illusionary words above them. The only problem was there was a lot to search through, and a lot of them were useless junk, like picking Seventeen of a very particular flower.

She was almost getting ready to curse Revenant out in her mind as a useless profit, when she caught sight of the word ’Grimsh-’ written on a notice that was half hidden behind others.

Snatching the notice from the board, Belladonna read over it with a gleeful smile, before hurrying over to the desk.

"Hello again, Fancy meeting you here." The Receptionist said with a coy giggle, when Belladonna finally reached the front of the queue.

Belladonna narrowed her eyes at the woman, who tilted her head innocently as if she didn’t know exactly what she was doing, before sighing in resignation and placing down the notice.

"I’d like to officially take this quest."

"Certainly~ Anything for an esteemed member of the tower. Congratulations on your progress by the way." She said with a flowery smile, projecting her voice loud enough for the rest of the queue to hear her, as well as most of the people milling about in the lobby.

A good number of whom were players, who naturally looked towards the individual in question. It didn’t take long for the first mutterings of the phrase ’Baroness of Blood’ to start, causing Belladonna to sigh again.
