Chapter 1085: Chapter 472: Sipping the Holy Grail

In Brittania, there is an exceedingly ancient legend that shortly after the death of First Knight King Arthur due to illness, a knight entirely green appeared in the forests of Brittania.

He is always silent, almost never speaking except in very special circumstances, but his power far exceeds the imagination of mortals. He is the guardian of the Brittania Knight Kingdom and a well-known presence throughout the kingdom.

He appears amongst the forests, strolling under the shade of ancient trees, moving in the clear lake waters, appearing in waterfalls, and battling the evil creatures that desecrate the sacred ground of the Lake God.

Undoubtedly, the primary enemies of the Green Knight are the Beastmen. During the thousand-year battles, it is highly probable that the Green Knight single-handedly slaughtered tens of thousands of Beastmen, earning him the title of "Soul Slayer" among them.

He is the Champion personally appointed by the Lake Fairy, a demigod walking among mortals, the only being in all Brittania whose strength surpasses the Holy Sanctuary.

The green glowing light shines upon the dusky woodland, Kaled swallowed nervously. Firstly, he felt a heartfelt joy, then a seriousness as if confronting a great enemy.

The Divine Sword Durandal was gripped tightly in his hand, awaiting the Green Knight’s response.

For the Expedition Knights, the appearance of the Green Knight signifies an important milestone on the expedition path.

That is the Holy Grail Expedition led by Kaled is about to face a significant test.

The Green Knight will challenge the Expedition Knights to test their martial skills and devotion. This duel is genuinely a Champion’s Duel, and the Expedition Knights must use all their abilities, or face the danger of being killed if they lose.

This is not nonsense. Some ignorant people often question the accounts given by minstrels or even Holy Grail Knights in taverns, questioning why the Green Knight, possessing demigod strength, would attack Expedition Knights who generally have Legendary Tier strength?

The only reasonable explanation is that the Green Knight never uses his full strength, and weapons hardly harm him. Swords and arrows pass through the Green Knight’s body like slicing through the morning mist, cutting nothing. No matter how severe the injuries he suffers, he does not die. There was once an Expedition Knight who, relying on immense bravery, beheaded the Green Knight, but the Green Knight calmly picked up his head and left.

The figure of the Green Knight is ethereal. His green eyes hidden within his helmet gazed at Kaled, and the Green Knight spoke: "Journeying Knight, accept my trial."

"Please." Kaled nodded calmly; the moment of battle had arrived.

The King of Green Eyes rode atop a steed that could no longer be called a living creature, exhaling green smoke. Its figure flickered in and out of reality, just like the Green Knight himself, who existed within the ethereal. Other than the Sword of Suffering in his hand, Kaled even doubted whether the opponent truly existed.

A chill spread through the heart and soul of the Expedition Knight. Kaled gradually realized that merely gazing at such a mysterious being inflicted a terrible pressure on him.

The Green Knight clearly did not intend to give Kaled a moment’s respite. Noticing that his opponent had already mounted and prepared for battle, the Green Knight immediately spurred his steed into a charge.

So fast! It’s incredibly fast! Kaled barely managed to shift his focus back, and the King of Green Eyes’ charge was already closing in. His advancing steps resembled an illusion, piercing through all obstacles, his ethereal form brushing past branches. In the blink of an eye, he was upon Kaled.

"Come!" Kaled internally recited the Holy Words of the Lake Fairy, gripping tightly the sacred sword left to him by Jules. Golden flames burned upon the sacred sword. As he spurred his horse, the sharp blade drew an arc through the air. His challenge reverberated with a peculiar melody, boundless fury enveloping Kaled’s will as the fierce arc of Durandal’s blade aimed directly at the Green Knight’s head.

The Green Knight, without a word, faced Kaled’s challenge head-on, wielding the green Sword of Suffering with a force as if to split the heavens and earth, striking towards Kaled.

"Clang~" The intense sparks from the clashing blades nearly blinded Kaled. This single strike from the Green Knight was enough to kill him several times over. The Expedition Knight deftly used his power to block the Green Knight’s attack, their figures passing by each other.

This was the first round.

"Again!" The Expedition Knight squinted his eyes, sensing the opponent’s strength. Almost defiantly, Kaled roared: "Show all your skills! King of Green Eyes!"

"..." The Green Knight ignored Kaled’s words, the King of Green Eyes simply turned his horse around to face Kaled again, launching another charge.

The green figure transformed into a rolling meteor, just as he imagined. The Green Knight ignored any terrain restrictions, his movements unaffected by the forest branches and muddy ground. His actions were like a destructive illusion, only his Sword of Suffering radiated an astonishing killing intent, devoid of any emotion in the King of Green Eyes’ gaze.

Kaled was uncertain whether it was due to losing all human emotions during the millennia-long war, or because the opponent was never human in the first place.

The Expedition Knight did not know; he knew only that without being vigilant, the possibility of being killed was real. The Green Knight, when facing Expedition Knights, never showed mercy.
