Wasteland: I Awakened A Plant System
Chapter 301: Incubation Pods
Vikram silently glanced at Draco, not refuting him, but instead Phanty and Fiery appeared in front of them.
"With the Phanty and Feiry, we won’t die. Let’s go."
Vikram’s outing today was specifically to clarify the situation of these zombies; there was no reason to shrink back without cause.
Hearing this, Draco had nothing more to say and, along with Ron, took the lead in entering the pit.
The pit was about two to three meters deep, roughly enough for four people to stand together simultaneously.
As soon as Draco and Ron reached the bottom of the pit, they discovered a crooked tunnel dug into the ground.
The two exchanged glances, both seeing a hint of surprise in the other’s eyes.
They hadn’t expected that zombies would dig tunnels like groundhogs.
Draco summoned a torch from his bag, lit it, and waved it in the tunnel.
Seeing that the torch did not extinguish due to lack of oxygen, he slowly ventured deeper into it.
At this moment, Vikram, who was following behind them, also jumped into the pit.
The obvious claw marks belonging to zombies in the pit immediately caught his attention.
It wouldn’t be easy to dig this tunnel with just a pair of claws in land ravaged by extreme cold.
This proved that either there were many zombies inside, or there was a powerful zombie.
Otherwise, those few zombies outside would break their fingers trying to dig this path.
The group slowly advanced, following Ron and Draco’s footsteps.
Vikram could feel that the passageway was not level but sloped slightly downwards.
The tunnel dug by the zombies was not meant for humans; it was impossible to walk upright, so everyone could only crouch and crawl forward.
As if to confirm Vikram’s guess, during their advance, Vikram also found several finger segments broken off and embedded in the wall.
This added a touch of horror to the already cold and damp environment inside.
Fortunately, this narrow and dark passage was not very long; after advancing a few dozen more steps, the space ahead suddenly opened up.
Although there was still no light source here, at least they no longer needed to press against the cold earth walls.
The group stepped out of the passageway into this unfamiliar space.
The two at the very front held up torches, remaining silent.
Their long survival experience in the Wasteland told them that speaking less in unfamiliar environments could greatly increase their survival rate.
However, this method was clearly not going to be very effective today.
Shortly after the group stepped in, several piercing roars immediately echoed through the open space.
Compared to Survivors, these zombies, who didn’t need sight, naturally had a huge advantage in the dark.
While Draco and Ron were still fumbling blindly in the dark, several figures had already attacked.
Vikram noticed that many of them were Mutated Zombies.
Without hesitation, he immediately summoned his machine gun, and pulled the trigger.
"Tat-tat-tat!"
The sudden gunfire instantly illuminated the front.
Vikram, firing his machine gun with one hand, didn’t forget to toss a flashlight to Percy.
Among everyone on this trip, he had the lowest physique, so it was most reasonable to give him the light source.
The moment the front was illuminated, Harry and the others immediately put their torches into their backpacks and took out their weapons, using the light to swing at the approaching zombies.
With the machine gun’s support, these zombies fell in droves with almost no effort.
With the crisis averted, everyone now had time to observe the underground space dug out by the zombies.
"My goodness, are these zombies so arrogant? They’re so ugly, yet their living space is so big?"
Looking at the space, which was larger than the hundred-square-meter living area Vikram had left for them, Ron couldn’t help but show a look of surprise.
"Heh heh, if you’re envious, after we deal with the zombies here, why don’t you just move in?" Draco saw Ron’s unworldly appearance and scoffed.
"Go, go, go! This hellhole is nothing but big. How can it compare to the mansion Brother Vikram gave us?"
Shaking his head, Vikram ignored their bickering and advanced on his own.
The moment Vikram entered this spacious underground area, he clearly saw everything inside, which shocked him to core.
There were many incubation pods, and a large numbers of Zombies inside.
And it was the same as the Vikram seen in the Vampire Ruin.
"Ew!"
"What are these things inside the pods? They’re so disgusting."
The group, following Vikram’s footsteps, also saw the incubation pods?
Each of them made sounds of disgust.
"Hey, look, there are zombies inside these! Brother, should we just stab them to death?"
Ron raised his alloy baseball bat and asked.
The pods in his vision were semi-transparent, and when he leaned closer, he also saw what was inside.
What else could it be but zombies?
He took a slight step back, taking in all the pods-like bodies on the wall.
Only then did he realize that these pods seemed to be composed of the flesh and blood of some creature.
At the same time, Vikram also noticed that these pods-like bodies were not randomly arranged, but rather centered around one largest pods, surrounding it in layers.
Each pods also had a long, IV-tube-like line dangling from its side, connecting to each other like a spiderweb, and finally converging on the largest pods in the center.
Without rushing Ron and the others to act, Vikram walked around each pods.
The system scanned them one by one.
[Epic-level Zombie: Purple. An Epic-level Zombie struck by a natural disaster’s lightning storm. It has outstanding intelligence and the ability to control lower-grade zombies. It is currently absorbing nutrients from other zombies to increase its strength and is about to advance to the purple-gold grade.
Four-dimensional Physique: Strength: 68, Speed: 68, Stamina: 67, Reaction: 70.]
[Mutated Zombie: Blue-Purple. A Mutated Zombie that has absorbed many zombie nutrients to advance.]
[Normal Zombie: Blue. A Normal Zombie whose nutrients have been fully extracted, on the verge of death.]
In the center was naturally the Epic-level Zombie that was about to advance.
The two outer rings consisted of over a dozen Mutated Zombies, and the outermost ring, of course, contained the Normal Zombies that were about to be drained dry.
With just a glance, Vikram understood the meaning of these pods. Simply put, the Normal Zombies in the outer ring were all nourishment for the Epic-level Zombie in the middle, continuously increasing its strength through the pods-like bodies.
Now he understood where all those Mutated Zombies came from.
This method was equivalent to reducing the number of the originally massive zombie population and developing them in terms of quality.
All of this was still understandable.
What shocked him was that the lightning that day was also a type of natural disaster.
But the most shocking things was that everything here was same as in the Vampire Ruin. Except, here it was in more advanced scale, and it looks it happened many years ago. That’s what confused him more.
After the analysis, Vikram pouted.
Without the slightest hesitation, he immediately raised his machine gun and pulled the trigger at the pods on the wall.
"Tat-tat-tat!"
Bullets, accompanied by flashes of fire, shot out, each one accurately hitting an pods.
The hit pods naturally could not escape the fate of being shattered.
The moment the bullets hit, most of the eggs burst like paper, breaking with a single touch.
A liquid, presumably nutrient-rich, splattered down first, drenching Ron’s pants, who was closest.
Then came the Zombies, killed by Vikram along with the pods.
A dozen Zombies fell limply to the ground; before they could awaken from their pods, a bloody hole had already appeared on their foreheads.
"Ptooey!"
Ron, with his pants covered in sticky liquid, spat on the spot, looking as if he was about to cry.
"This stuff is too disgusting, it smells worse than pee. No wonder these Zombies all have a putrid smell."
"It turns out it’s all because they live in these disgusting things."
Pinching his nose, Ron quickly retreated.
They didn’t have a system analysis, so of course, they didn’t know the origin of these pods.
As a result, they subconsciously believed these were the nests where Zombies hibernated.
Ignoring Ron’s complaints, there were so many pods on the wall that Vikram spent a lot of time and still hadn’t cleared them all.
As the muzzle gradually shifted to the Mutated Zombies in the inner circle, just as he killed one Mutated Zombie, a disturbance suddenly came from the wall.
Looking up, the Epic-level Zombie in the central pods sac had, at some unknown point, opened its eyes.
Its gaze swept over the people below, one by one.
Whether it was his imagination or not, Vikram actually read a hint of fury in its eyes.
Ron and the others clearly also noticed the situation above, taking out their weapons and retreating a few steps.
Vikram, standing still, couldn’t care less about that; since he was already here, these Mutated Zombies had crystals inside them, and it would be a waste not to take them.
Completely ignoring the gaze of the Epic-level Zombie in the middle, he continued to fire his machine gun.
Under its furious gaze, the pods in the inner circle were also shot open one by one by him.
Seemingly sensing that the source of nutrients had been cut off, the Epic-level Zombie no longer cared about the pods.
Extending its sturdy claws, it actively tore open the inside of the pod sac.
Its massive body leaped up, landing heavily on the ground, causing a violent tremor in this underground cave, which completely disregarded its structural integrity.
Along with it came its heart-wrenching roar, "Roar—"
What Vikram didn’t know was that these pods sacs couldn’t be formed casually.
It was all created many years ago, and only after lightning it can activated, and it could be said that this was the only chance for these Epic-level creatures to advance.
Now that the pods sacs were broken, it would have to wait for the next thunder and lightning storm to appear in the Wasteland World if it wanted to advance.
Not to mention that the Zombies used as nutrients in this nest had already been completely eliminated by Vikram and the others.
The number of Zombies that each Epic-level creature hit by a thunder and lightning storm can control is limited.
Now, after the thunder and lightning storm, Epic-level creatures are everywhere, making it even more difficult to acquire ownerless Zombies.
Vikram’s actions were tantamount to cutting off its path to becoming stronger.
As a result, the expression on this Epic-level Zombie’s pale face became increasingly ferocious.
Its Zombie fangs were bared high, wildly secreting saliva containing corpse poison.
The blood-red light in its eyes suddenly flared, and the next second!
Its massive figure had already disappeared from its original spot, leaving only a blurry afterimage.
When Harry and the others reacted, Zombie had already arrived behind Vikram.
At this moment, the Zombie’s giant arm was raised high, and without a word, it slapped Vikram’s forehead.
It held nothing back, vowing to smash Vikram’s brains out!
"Boss!"
"Brother, be careful!"
They were too far from Vikram, and it was already too late to go and save him now.
Percy and the others could only desperately point behind Vikram, hoping he could dodge this fierce blow in time.
