Chapter 148 - 110: The Iron Dragon’s Dilemma
The Mechanical School, currently flourishing in Prole and on the verge of establishing its own Law, needed mineral resources more than anything.
And yet, through it all, L, as a mere lone wolf who had only been a Demon Hunter for a short time, was able to hone his skills to the point of defeating Gray and single-handedly taking on six members of the Glorious Knight Order.
One could only imagine the hardship he must have endured.
Lewis smiled at Yalilan, the superior who had once hired L, and said, "Ever since he defeated Gray yesterday, many noble and powerful families in Fude City have come to me asking for information about him, and inquiring about marriage arrangements."
Before Yalilan could reply, Stephen, who was standing to the side, said, "Doesn’t the Lord City Master also have an unmarried daughter?"
Hearing this, Lewis paused for a moment, then said with a light laugh, "Although Remedios is unmarried, she and Zhan Jiale are childhood sweethearts... I imagine a talented young man like Mr. Allen has no interest in marriage right now."
Remedios was Lewis’s only daughter, and Zhan Jiale was the Vice-Captain of the Glorious Knight Order. He was said to be only a Black Iron Tier Knight.
His father was a wealthy merchant in Steel City and a longtime friend of Lewis’s, making it a well-suited match.
Stephen just smiled and said no more.
On the stage, Galahad, who had re-tied her hair, and the other Knights gave Baron a Knight’s farewell salute amidst the chorus of "Allen!" from all directions.
As she was leaving, Galahad said to Baron very seriously, "I will definitely defeat you."
’Are you Grey Wolf, little girl?’
Baron smiled. "We shall see."
Galahad nodded and said no more. As she stepped down from the stage with her senior Knights, she pursed her lips and said, "Seniors... did you all know? Was it because of my father’s instructions that you’ve been taking such good care of me?"
The senior Knights were stunned. The one who looked like their leader paused for a moment and said:
"Galahad, you entered the Glorious Knight Order by taking first place in the selection of a thousand Intern Knights, all through your own strength. You only need to remember that."
"As a sixteen-year-old Black Iron Knight, you’re already exceptional!"
Galahad was taken aback for a moment, but a smile appeared on her face. She saw Gawain getting up from his stretcher in the distance, then turned her head to look at the Demon Hunter on stage, who was receiving the cheers.
She clenched her fists.
’I must become the strongest Contract Knight and make my father see.’
Galahad Richard thought to herself.
...
Baron came down from the stage and, as usual, was welcomed by many of his fellow Demon Hunters. This even included Andre, with whom he had initially been at odds.
Andre watched him from afar on the edge of the crowd. His throat bobbed, but he didn’t manage to say anything. He just nodded and turned his gaze elsewhere.
That was how straightforward relationships between Demon Hunters were. As long as it wasn’t the kind of hatred that came from slaughtering your entire family, anyone could be won over by sheer strength.
’What a classic tsundere.’
After exchanging a few pleasantries with the group of Demon Hunters—most of whom he barely knew—Baron freed himself and went to join Yalilan and the others.
By the time he reached the long pavilion, Victor had already left. According to Lewis, he wasn’t feeling well, but only Yalilan and the others knew he had actually gone to ask Gawain about "the reason for the three kneels."
Stephen came right up to Baron and said, "L, so young and promising."
"Beats being old and disappointing," Baron joked with a smile.
Stephen paused, and just as he was about to ponder the meaning of those words, Lewis said with a beaming smile:
"Mr. L, you have some truly fine skills. However, I am curious about one thing: how did you achieve those blood-red Alchemy Circuits?"
"Although I am not a Demon Hunter, I have some small understanding. It seems that a Silver Demon Hunter’s Alchemy Circuits are tied to their Tier, are they not?"
’Straight for the jugular.’
Yalilan’s delicate eyebrows shot up. She hadn’t expected Lewis to be the one to initiate the confrontation. Just as she was about to step in and help Baron, Tate immediately followed up:
"Could it be that you used an Alchemy Array Pattern? I’ve heard that Alchemists over in Feinan have a method of inscribing Alchemy Arrays onto human skin, a technique they call a Tattooed Register..."
He still didn’t believe that Baron had learned Burning Blood in just one night.
"Of course, I’m not saying you broke any rules, Mr. L..."
’You might as well have "tattletale" written on your forehead.’
Baron said calmly, "For that, I have Vice Gang Leader Rodney’s Silver Faction Secret Technique from last night to thank."
A Secret Technique?
Lewis and Stephen looked puzzled.
Utterly confused.
’From the sound of it, were they discussing a Secret Technique used by Silver Demon Hunters to alter their Alchemy Circuits for temporary bonus effects?’
It really was a Secret Technique!
The expressions on Tate’s and Yalilan’s faces suddenly froze. The former stared blankly at Baron for a few seconds, then gave an awkward laugh.
"You must be joking. Mr. L, you should know that mastering a Secret Technique is not something that can be done in a short time. Besides, your Alchemy Circuits are red, which is a departure from the original..."
Baron said coolly, "Because I’m a genius. I discovered a shortcut to mastering that Secret Technique. Is there a problem with that?"
When it came to Tate, he didn’t need to be pleasant.
Stephen and Lewis both had their own sources, so they were naturally aware of the incident at the Guard Post last night and the grudges involved.
Moreover, it was Lewis who had helped him solve the problem of his identity; he was no longer an unregistered person in Prole.
He now had an identity: L. Allen.
’How is that possible...’
Tate’s face was a mask of disbelief.
He thought Baron was bluffing.
If Baron had said he also had Burning Blood and had only taken a few months to learn it, Tate might have been half-convinced.
But his confident pronouncements only made Tate more certain that he was bluffing.
’Learning and mastering a Secret Technique in one night, then quickly forming it during a match? Are you kidding me?’
Even Yalilan and Stephen, standing to the side, were starting to have their doubts when they heard Baron’s words. A genius... but even for a genius, learning a Secret Technique overnight was surely the stuff of fantasy.
