Westminster Bank
Chapter 252 - 159: The Dog’s Collar
The Little Flame Demon carefully carried the key in its mouth as it flew out through the iron window bars.
Its glow was dim—the only way to keep the Dragon Flame from melting the key before it reached Baron’s hands.
Jack marveled at the Little Flame Demon. "Constantine, has your control over Dragon Flame really reached this level? You can even mold it into a little dragon."
Baron took the key, unlocked the iron door, and said flatly, "It wasn’t molded."
"If it wasn’t molded, does that mean it formed naturally? A Taboo Item?"
Jack didn’t even consider the possibility that he had obtained a new Promise at the Bronze Tier.
Because he knew it was impossible.
According to Westminster Bank’s data, Baron had likely only become a Dragon Knight in the last two years. After all, it had only been a few years since his fiancée broke off their engagement over his status as one of the Bloodless.
On top of that, on the Outer Side, he was just an ordinary bank clerk with a heavy workload. With no record of him ever returning to the Inner Side, it was highly unlikely he had any free time to hone his Spiritual Power.
There was no way he could have soared from the Black Iron Tier to the Bronze Tier in just two or three short years.
Besides, even the legendary Silver Lion Wilder, the youngest ever to reach the Silver Tier, took three years to get from Black Iron to Bronze.
No matter how exceptionally talented Constantine was, he couldn’t possibly have surpassed that benchmark.
If he had surpassed that benchmark, Jack figured Baron wouldn’t need to be on some mission with him now, trying to solidify some S Level standing.
Simply put, they might as well just make him the next director of Westminster Bank!
He himself could just latch onto a powerful ally, and all those bastards who framed Constantine would be terrified... but in the end, that was impossible.
...
Jack led the way through the door. He moved aside the two unconscious Guards, kicked away the straw they used for sleeping, and opened up a hole he had dug with a drill in the corner behind them.
Although Baron knew Jack had mentioned the isolation cell was well soundproofed, he hadn’t anticipated it being so effective that Jack could use a drill to break through the floor undetected.
"It’s not a Taboo Item, either," he said, following Jack down into the hole before covering the entrance with straw.
The tunnel Jack had dug was narrow, forcing them both to crawl. It was dark, so Baron sent the Little Flame Demon ahead to light the path.
Jack scrambled along behind it, curiously sizing up the Little Flame Demon’s form, which resembled a miniature model of a Giant Dragon.
"Not a Taboo Item? Then is it one of the legendary Fairies?"
Fairies. They appeared in ancient times alongside the Elves, two interdependent races. But as time went on, like the Giants, they gradually faded into the realm of legend. To this day, there have been no recorded sightings of this Old Race.
There is also a theory in the Alchemy Realm that a great war broke out between the Elf Race and the Fairy Race long ago. After the war, the Fairy Race went into hiding in another world that has yet to be discovered.
Supposedly, the Fairy Race includes fairies with just such a small silhouette.
This also indirectly revealed Jack’s state of mind; he was more willing to believe the Flame Demon was a Fairy than that Baron had reached the Bronze Tier.
"I’m Bronze Tier now," Baron said.
Jack continued, "If it’s not a Fairy, does that mean it’s a sealed Demon? It’s weirdly cute."
"I’m Bronze Tier now."
Jack asked, "Bronze what? Are you saying you have a Bronze Tier Taboo Item?"
Baron said without expression, "I’m Bronze Tier now."
Jack wiped the cold sweat from his face. "Brother Constantine, we’re here... Have your Flame Demon scout ahead through this opening... I... You..."
"How are you Bronze Tier?" Jack asked, his voice trembling.
’He was Black Iron Tier just a few days ago.’
He subconsciously pinched his own cheek. It didn’t hurt. This wasn’t a dream.
But a profound sense of absurdity still washed over him. The kind you feel when your fugitive, Black Iron Tier friend suddenly promotes to Bronze in a short period, and will now very likely win the favor of the director, become the unprecedented youngest SS Level agent, be chosen as a candidate for the next director of Westminster Bank, and at a young age start down the path of teasing Stella and mouthing off to Howard—all while you’re still struggling to raise your own Tier to C Level just so you won’t be discriminated against by the Westminster Bank intelligence teams all over the world.
"It’s a long story, so let’s not get into it."
Baron directed the Little Flame Demon out through the small hole Jack had made. After confirming the coast was clear, he used the blade of his Spear Sword to precisely cut an opening in the wall large enough to climb through.
"Because I can’t explain it either."
He jumped out of the hole and was immediately stunned by the scene before him.
...
The sensation of stepping on the floor was like walking barefoot on the surface of the sea.
The gilded marble floor was pieced together like the stained-glass windows on the four walls. Light shone in from outside, casting its rays on long pillars of coral gold and quartz glass, revealing the various Taboo Items held within them in perfect, minute detail.
Baron was about to step forward when Jack, who had just climbed out behind him, stopped him.
"These Old Blood Clans go to great lengths with their security measures to preserve and contain their Taboo Items. Brother L, don’t make a move. Leave this to me."
With extreme professionalism, Jack took out and put on a pair of white gloves. He then retrieved a flashlight that could detect infrared rays from his Holding Ring and, like an ace agent from an action movie, carefully scanned the surroundings.
His movements were practiced and elegant... If one were to disregard his pathetic-looking face, which resembled a rain-drenched golden retriever, Baron figured plenty of women would be willing to date him.
Jack rummaged through a toolbox from his container, searching left and right. He pulled out some other tool, tapped around on the floor with it, then waved at Baron, signaling for him to stick close to the wall and follow.
