What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?
Chapter 905: You Are Human
As much as I would like to just stay here forever... We unfortunately had work to do so we had our things packed and were now heading back to our ship.
Of course, we had Vieretha along as well and she was quite obviously looking forward to stepping foot on our ship for the first time.
True to her word, she came alone with her bodyguards nowhere in sight.
The moment we stepped inside, a large ball of fluff bounded towards me, only to skid to a stop right in front of me.
Of course, the ball of fur turned out to be the dog that I had recently acquired and I proceeded to start patting its head.
Speaking of which... It seems like I have not yet given her a name either...
What should I name this doggy then?
Hmm~ Hmm~
"You... Have a dog, Tera?" Vieretha whispered.
Though she wasn’t as scared of it as my girls who had immediately pushed themselves against the wall to get as far away from the dog as they could, she did take a few steps back from it.
I scratched the dog under its chin and it let out a cute whine sound as it sat there to enjoy the scratches.
"Well... Things happened and the dog came under my care..."
"Does it have to do with the fact that Kaito Business Holdings became available for acquisition?"
"Err... Yes."
She looked at the dog, then at me, then at the dog again, then back to me once more.
"Do you have a license for it?" She asked simply.
"No," I answered back just as simply.
She stared at me for a while more.
I cleared my throat, "Ahem... That’s actually the next part of our plan. We’re going to get a Bio-Weapons license right now so it’ll be fine. We already intended to get a dog to begin with but circumstances just made it so that we acquired a dog before we got a license for it."
"I see..."
Anyway... I’ve figured out a name for the dog!
"For the time being... Her name is Freyja!" I declared, patting the dog on the head.
The dog perked up, likely understanding that I just gave her a name.
She let out a happy bark as though to let me know that she liked the name and if that wasn’t enough, the fact that her tail was wagging especially hard behind her showed that well enough.
So cute~
Who’s a good girl? Who’s a good girl? Whoosh a gud girl?
That’s right, you are! Pat~ Pat~ Pat~
Freyja let out a happy bark and wagged her tail even faster.
Ahhhh~ She’s so cute, so cute~
"Did you just... Name it?" Vieretha asked.
I turned back to her, "Yes? What’s wrong with that? Is that weird?"
The Dragonling turned to look at my girls and all of them just shook my head at her.
I’m not sure what they are shaking their heads about though but it seems like some kind of understanding was passed between them as Vieretha nodded before turning back to me.
"You really are interesting, Tera... And for the dog to be this obedient as well... You have only just come into possession of it not too long ago, correct?"
I figured that I might as well just explain everything here now so I let out a sigh, "Girls, prepare to set off. I will have a talk with her."
All of them dispersed to prepare the ship for take off while I led the Dragonling towards the dining area.
Freyja seemed to want to follow along so I let her walk by my side as we walked, which resulted in Vieretha following a short distance behind me instead of right beside me like before.
We reached the dining area and I gestured for her to take a seat across from me while Freyja settled down at my feet.
Even with her laying down on the ground, her large size made it such that she was at the same height as the seat, allowing me to easily reach over to continue patting her head.
So fluffy~ Ehehehe~
Ahem.
I gave Vieretha a serious look, "Whatever I’m about to tell you is nothing but the truth and I’m telling you all this in confidence that you will not betray us. If you do, I cannot guarantee your life."
She steepled her fingers and leaned forward, "And what is this great secret that you were unable to share with me?"
Great... Where do I even begin? I suppose I might as well just start from the very beginning...
"You see... I’m actually from another universe..."
I spend the next hour or so telling her about how I was from another universe and how I woke up here and the events leading to what landed me in my current position so far.
I also went ahead to tell her that I was also a Psionic and that we have two other Psionics on our crew. Not to mention the fact that we also have a former Pirate Lord and also a... I guess an eldritch entity that I was currently wearing as clothes.
Of course, I had asked the girls ahead of time if they would be ok with me revealing all of this to her and all of them gave me the go ahead.
It’s only after I said all this did I realise just how much stuff I’ve been through in this short time frame and it felt quite surreal to recount everything that I’ve experienced so far.
By the time I was done, it really felt like I had relived my entire life up to this point again. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Vieretha did not immediately respond when I stopped talking and looked more like she was deep in contemplation.
Finally, she spoke up, "Is it because you are from another Universe that the animals obey you so easily?"
I’m surprised that’s the first thing she asked seeing that I literally told her we had three Psionics and even an eldritch being on board but I guess this was the first thing she saw when we first met.
I shrugged, "I don’t know. It could be, I guess... Or it may be one of those perks that allows me to be so friendly with them."
She paused for a moment before shaking her head, "No... I think I know why. And also why you are a Psionic with much stronger Psionic capabilities than other Psionics... You are quite literally a pure human."
I blinked at her, "Eh? What do you mean? I mean... I suppose I am human but aren’t Amber and Mara human as well?"
"I mean that you are a pure, unmodified human."
"Err... I don’t understand?"
She gestured towards Freyja, "These creatures... They were modified by humans to serve humanity as their weapons of war and also their companions. They were made to obey humans and modified down to their genes to do so. But over the years, humans have also spliced themselves with gene mods and cybernetic mods that you could say that the humans of today are genetically different from the humans of before."
I sucked in a breath, "You don’t mean that... The animals don’t see humans as human anymore?"
"That is what I believe after hearing what you have told me so far. It has been a topic of study since in some past records, it was said that these animals were exceptionally obedient and easy to control, yet we do not see that now. It has been theorised that the animals had undergone another set of genetic modification that gave them that aggressiveness somewhere during the AI rebellion but now I think the real reason is that humans have modified themselves to change so much during the AI Rebellion that the animals no longer recognise them as pure humans anymore but more like beings who look and act the same as humans."
She eyed Freyja who had been obediently laying on the ground beside me to receive head pats this entire time, "But since you are a pure human, you are able to command them as that is what they have been modified to do. If I’m not wrong, you may be the last pure human in this Universe."
"But... I did Gene splice myself though... As you saw with the honey cum and the tentacles..."
"Yes, but this would most likely only affect your offspring and not you. You will still be recognised as a human despite that but your future offsprings might be seen as a little different from being human. That’s how it must have changed through the generations of humanity during the course of the AI Rebellion as people had to rely on these modifications to fight back against the robots. This also applies to your Psionic capabilities since humans are the only ones who can naturally awaken as Psionics and you are a pure human as well."
That’s... Interesting... I have to admit that this might make sense since this character was created ’new’ so I guess if you think about that... Everything would be explained with this fact alone.
Guess now we know?
