Chapter 1071: Chapter 260: The Blood-Red Banquet

The game was over the moment the Lord of the Holy City was exiled, and for the demons, the time to revel in their spoils had begun.

Black smoke descended upon the city, staining the entire sky black.

These smokes easily bypassed the guards and rushed into the venue, infiltrating the bodies of the family members through their mouths and noses before they could react. Those who were dressed in luxurious attire collapsed helplessly on the ground. As the guards burst through the doors, they saw bodies twisting and convulsing in ways that defied human anatomy, the sounds of breaking bones echoing in the room.

However, the invaded people were not dead. That eerie spectacle continued for several minutes, and afterward, the family members who should have perished began to rise from the ground like marionettes, with fractured limbs dangling, blood seeped from the corners of eyes and mouths, yet they bore ghastly smiles.

Their eyes were filled with black.

Among these people, there was an exception.

Its eyes were red, indistinguishable from the whites around them like the others.

The twisted bodies gazed toward the red-eyed figure.

The guards recognized him too—a marginalized youth within the family, infamous across families for his reckless antics. Now, the red eyes had unquestionably become their leader.

Everyone seemed to be waiting for the red eyes to give orders, or perhaps to declare the start of the feast.

A chief guard hidden at the end of the crowd discreetly drew a laser pistol, trying not to attract any attention.

He calmed his inner fear and anxiety, aiming the gun at the center of the red eyes’ forehead.

Someone must step forward and do something.

It was clear the insidious black smoke had used despicable means to control the family members. If these monsters were allowed to proceed, the Holy City would face unprecedented disaster.

With this thought, the chief guard pulled the trigger.

The red beam burst from the gun barrel, piercing through the crowd and the red-eyed figure’s forehead.

The chief guard finally smiled, observing the leader of the monsters who still maintained a wild grin, seemingly unprepared for someone to shoot at him in such a moment. He watched that body fall backward with a "thud."

Then, what came into view was the ceiling and crystal chandelier of the banquet hall, the surrounding sounds became surreal, and the chief guard’s vision blurred, the world was shrouded in a crimson tint. He noticed something rolling to the ground.

It was round and stained with blood.

It was his eye.

Before losing consciousness, the guard understood what had just occurred.

He hadn’t drawn his gun and shot at the red eyes!

Instead, the laser pistol was aimed at his own nose bridge, and then he pulled the trigger. Such close-range shooting was enough to shatter the top half of his head, so his eyeball had rolled from its original place onto the ground.

But...

Why?

The chief guard hadn’t even had a chance to feel pain; before his consciousness completely faded, he was still filled with confusion.

He had clearly aimed at the center of the red eyes’ forehead, so why was it his own head that exploded in the end?

"It seems someone can’t wait to join this feast!"

With his arms open wide, the red-eyed figure called to the eager demons, "Little ones, begin your hunt!"

The twisted bodies rushed towards the guards in bizarre manners, their mouths uttering unintelligible words mixed with manic laughter and screams.

Retaliation became the guards’ most instinctive response, yet with each bullet fired, one of their heads would explode from within, the liquid mixed with brain matter splattering onto the walls of the banquet hall. The gunfire lasted only a few minutes before stopping, the last surviving guard outside the doors dared not charge into the hall with the main squad.

After the gunfire had ceased for a while, he cautiously straightened up, peeking through the slightly ajar door to observe the conditions inside the banquet hall.

The guard covered his mouth tightly, afraid of making any sound.

He could only see scattered limbs all around, and those family members indulging themselves amidst the pile of corpses, their bodies bathed in blood, carefully rummaging through the remnants for something. Those who found "essentials" hurried to feed human tissue into their mouths, chewing with relish.

The guard knew he should escape immediately, but his legs felt weighed down as if filled with lead, unable to move.

In the next moment, a pair of red eyes without pupils appeared through the door crack, as if using the same method to peer at the guard from the other side.

"Ah—!" 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

The guard instinctively stepped back, but before he could fall, the red-eyed figure grabbed his wrist from behind the door, extending an invitation, "Here’s another that eluded us, come, everyone is waiting for you."

It was a force he couldn’t resist, pulling the guard into the banquet hall; his arm nearly dislocated immediately, yet the red-eyed figure ignored his cries and complaints. The last thing the guard saw was the red-eyed figure reaching with his other hand towards his head, then the sensation of tearing eclipsed everything.
