Wizard Lord of Westeros
Chapter 459: New Dragons
WILOW-Ch.459: New Dragons
Lonely Hills, Imperial Lands
POV of Domeric Pendragon
Domeric stood a few meters away and watched as the Pyre he’d created last night burned away, and the smoke and flames hid Ygritte and dragon eggs from him.
Domeric had made some minor changes to the Dragon Hatching Ritual, and by drawing a magical circle around the Pyre, he had shortened the time it took for eggs to hatch by absorbing the magical mana released by the flames more quickly.
Now, this ritual took a little over an hour and a half.
Of course, he couldn’t try this modified ritual on Ygritte for the first time.
So, while watching the Pyre, which contained Ygritte, burn, he was also stroking the two newborn dragons in his arms.
These two dragons were Domeric’s other dragon eggs, ready to hatch for some time.
His own egg-hatching ritual had finished about an hour ago. And after confirming that the ritual went smoothly, Ygritte had entered her pyre.
As a result of the changes Domeric had made to the Dragonlord Ritual, those who completed this ritual could bond with three dragons instead of one. And with these two dragons beside him, Domeric’s dragon team was complete.
For the same reason, Ygritte was currently inside the pyre with three dragon eggs. When her ritual was finished, the Midgard Empire would have a total of six dragons.
Of course, the power of these six dragons was not equal. For a Dragonlord, having all dragons of equal power in their dragon team wasn’t healthy.
Therefore, to avoid problems in this regard, Domeric, after conversations with Kilgharrah, the Wise Dragon, had created a hierarchical dragon classification chart.
In this chart, dragons had nine different hierarchical levels.
At the very top of the diagram were the Level 9 Wise Dragons. They possessed four legs and three horns. As they aged, they could communicate with humans, first mentally and then physically.
But their most important characteristic was inheriting their ancestors’ wisdom and becoming the wisest beings alive.
However, only one Wise Dragon could exist in a world at a time, and after a second appeared, the two dragons would fight until one survived.
For a Wise Dragon to be born, seven dragon eggs had to be sacrificed, and their energy transferred to one dragon egg.
Kilgharrah, Domeric’s first dragon, was currently the only Wise Dragon in this world.
At the Level 8 hierarchy were the dragons that Domeric called Dragon Kings/Queens.
These dragons, when they grew up, could communicate mentally and physically with humans, but they had two horns instead of three.
They were required to absorb the energy of six dragon eggs.
Domeric’s two new dragons were at this level of the hierarchy. Domeric named them Saphira and Tiamat, both of whom were female.
Saphira had blue scales, while Tiamat had red scales with gold lines.
In addition, one of Ygritte’s newly born dragons would have a Level 8 hierarchy.
Her other two dragons would be in the Level 7 hierarchy.
Level 7 dragons, Alfa Dragons, required absorbing the energy of five dragon eggs. Like Level 8 dragons, they were four-legged and had two horns, but when they grew up, they could only communicate with humans mentally. Physical communication was not possible.
Level 9, Level 8, and Level 7 dragons formed the noble dragon classification of the dragon lineage.
Below were High Dragons. Level 6 and Level 5 ones. They couldn’t speak to humans, but like noble dragons, they had four legs.
Level 6 dragons needed to absorb the energy of four dragon eggs, while Level 5 dragons needed to absorb three.
Below the High Dragons were the Lesser Dragons. Frankly, Noble and High Dragons generally looked down on these dragons.
The main reason was that they had two legs, with their forelegs and wings fused. If they couldn’t breathe fire, noble and high dragons might have considered them wyverns instead of dragons.
Dragons from Level 4 to Level 1 belonged to the Lesser Dragon class.
Level 4 dragons required the energy of two dragon eggs, while Level 3 dragons required the energy of one.
The situation was slightly different for Level 2 and Level 1 dragons.
Level 2 dragons were those that did not absorb the energy of another dragon egg but were born as a result of a ritual, such as human sacrifice.
In the original destiny line of this world, Daenerys’ three dragons were at this hierarchical level.
Level 1 dragons, on the other hand, were dragons that were born from the nests of their lesser mother dragons without undergoing any ritual and without a connection to a Dragonlord.
As Domeric watched the pyre in front of him, he pondered whether or not to increase the level of Daenerys’ future dragons. But to do so, he needed to know Daenerys’ future intentions. Otherwise, he might create a weapon that could later be turned against him.
While Domeric was talking about this, he continued to caress Saphira and Tiamat in his lap, and to watch the fire in front of him.
No matter how brightly the flames burned, Ygritte didn’t make the slightest sound.
Of course, he had expected this. They had both thoroughly checked her fire resistance before doing this, and he was sure that she wouldn’t burn even if she took a bath in magma right now.
The pyre he had created had no hope of burning her.
He could see Ygritte’s silhouette sitting at the center of Pyre every now and then, but nothing else aside from that.
He felt the urge to go back to his desk and study the magic and runes in the locket he’d borrowed from Melisandre for a while.
But this seemed more important... Like a child’s birth. So even if his presence wasn’t required, even if there wasn’t anything he could do at this point, he stood before the pyre and didn’t move.
The Pyre continued to burn for the next hour till noon before it was finally fully consumed and turned into ash.
In the middle of the burned-out pyre, Ygritte seemed to be in a deep state of meditation.
He waited in silence until she finally opened her eyes and smiled at him.
He smiled back, and Ygritte then presented him with three dragons.
One of them was a red dragon with black lines across its back.
Another was a white dragon with scattered silver stripes.
And the last one was a dragon that was partly light green and partly dark green.
"Domeric. Meet Lagertha, Brunhilde, and Leonidas."
Domeric was momentarily surprised by the names Ygritte gave her dragons. But then he thought it wasn’t so strange.
Domeric had already shared almost everything about his past life with her, including the myths and legends from it.
And Ygritte’s favorite stories were Viking legends and Norse mythology, followed by Greek mythology and legends.
So, it wasn’t surprising that she gave them those names.
