Chapter 82: Chapter 82: Farewell To The Horny Village

Morning sunlight spilled through the tall windows of the manor study.

Kai woke up to find Eliza resting her head on his bare chest.

Her blonde hair spilled across his skin, and her breathing was slow and even.

The faint golden rune on her chest pulsed softly to match the quiet rhythm of her heartbeat.

He let his hand trail down her bare hip, taking a moment to just enjoy the soft warmth of her skin.

She stirred slightly and pushed her smooth leg over his thighs, pressing her body against him in her sleep.

He carefully slipped out from under the blankets so he would not wake her, pulled his dark trousers on and walked over to the open balcony.

The air outside smelled fresh and clean.

The foul stench of rot and dark magic was entirely gone from the wind.

A faint golden dome arched high above the village of Greyhollow, forming a beautiful protective barrier that kept the shadows pushed back into the deep woods.

’We actually did it,’ Kai thought to himself, leaning his arms against the wooden railing.

’The ward is holding strong, and the town is safe.’

A blue system window popped into his vision with a pleasant chime.

Kai smiled broadly at the floating text.

Jumping levels in a single night was a huge boost to his stats, and the gold coins would easily fund his next set of gear.

He swiped the window away as he heard soft footsteps walking across the rug behind him.

Eliza wrapped her arms around his waist and pressed her bare breasts against his back.

"You are up very early," she whispered, kissing his shoulder blade.

"I was just admiring our handiwork," Kai replied.

He turned around and pulled her into a warm hug.

"The barrier looks good, and the village is finally quiet."

"Let’s get dressed and go outside," Eliza suggested, running her hands down his chest.

"I need to see the sun hit the streets with my own eyes to actually believe it is real."

They walked down the main cobblestone street a few minutes later.

The morning sun was bright, and the ruined village was slowly coming back to life.

Wooden doors creaked open as terrified survivors finally stepped out of their hiding spots to look at the sky.

The old farmer walked out of the cellar carrying his crossbow, but he had a wide smile on his wrinkled face.

Thom followed close behind him.

The young girl’s bitten arm looked totally normal again because the holy pulse had burned the corruption right out of her veins before it could reach her heart.

Kai looked toward the tree line at the very edge of town.

A small group of thralls had tried to cross the boundary during the night to reach the fresh meat inside.

Their pale bodies were actively dissolving into grey ash the moment they touched the golden light.

"Well, don’t you two look very cozy," a familiar, teasing voice called out.

Vienna walked out of the local tavern carrying two open bottles of wine.

She wore a fresh linen dress, and her hair was tied back in a practical knot. She handed a bottle to Kai and took a long drink from the other one.

"We had a very productive night," Kai smiled, taking a sip of the sweet red wine.

Vienna laughed loudly and leaned her back against a wooden post.

"I can clearly see that. The whole town felt that magical pulse. You really know how to make a dramatic entrance, Kai."

"So what happens to the town now?" Eliza asked, wrapping her shawl tighter around her shoulders.

"Greyhollow needs strong leadership to rebuild the damaged homes and secure the farms."

Vienna looked around the ruined market square and sighed heavily.

"I have been thinking about that all morning. The mayor is dead, and the cowards running the town guard are gone. Someone needs to run this place, and I know everyone in this village by their first name."

Kai raised an eyebrow in surprise.

"You want to be the new mayor?"

"Why not?" Vienna grinned wickedly.

"I know all their dirty secrets because they get drunk at my bar. That makes me highly qualified for politics. Plus, someone has to make sure the trade routes open up again so we can get fresh supplies from the coast."

’She is right,’ Kai thought, looking at the confident tavern girl.

’She is tough, and she survived the worst of it. The village will follow her without questioning her authority.’

Eliza looked back up at the stone manor sitting on the high hill.

"I do not want to go back up there. That house is just a tomb full of bad memories now. Arthur is gone, and the protective ward is safe inside me."

She turned to face Kai, and her green eyes were bright with serious determination.

"I want to come with you. I know how to fight, and my holy magic is tied directly to your mana now. If you leave me behind, this golden rune might fade, and the village will fall again."

Kai looked at the beautiful woman standing right in front of him.

He thought about the dangerous roads ahead and the dark succubus queen waiting in the southern mountains.

Having a holy magic user by his side would be a huge tactical advantage against the demon courts.

And having her warm body in his bed every night was a very convincing bonus that he could not ignore.

"Are you sure you want to trade a safe village for sleeping in the dirt?" Kai teased her gently.

"As long as I am sleeping right next to you, I really do not care where we camp," Eliza replied smoothly. S

he stepped close and kissed him right on the lips to seal the deal.

A new blue screen appeared briefly in the corner of his eye.

They spent the rest of the day helping Vienna organise the remaining survivors.

Kai retrieved the bags of gold coins from the hidden vault in the basement and split them evenly with the new mayor to fund the rebuilding efforts.

By late afternoon, Kai and Eliza were fully packed and ready to hit the western road.

Vienna walked them to the main gate.

The Aphro Aura was gone, but the physical attraction between her and Kai was still very real.

"You are going to break a lot of hearts out there on the road," Vienna told him, resting her hands on her hips with a knowing smirk.

"I will try to keep the collateral damage to a minimum," Kai laughed, tightening the saddle straps on his horse.

Vienna stepped forward and grabbed the collar of his white shirt.

She pulled him down into a deep, passionate kiss.

She pressed her soft curves against him, letting her tongue explore his mouth for a long moment before she finally pulled away, leaving him wanting more.

"Just a friendly reminder of what you are leaving behind," Vienna whispered.

She looked over at Eliza and nodded respectfully.

"Keep him out of trouble out there. Or at least try to keep him alive."

"I will do my best," Eliza smiled back, showing no jealousy at all.

Kai climbed onto his black horse and reached down to help Eliza up behind him.

She wrapped her arms tight around his waist and rested her chin on his broad shoulder.

He took one last look at Vienna and the quiet village of Greyhollow.

The town was battered and scarred, but it was breathing again.
