Chapter 1802: Chapter 1799: Sheep’s Blood? Human Blood?

Although this was a joke, anyone could hear the pride in the words. Lin Tian smiled knowingly and gave a thumbs up to these pioneers. It is because of these predecessors that we juniors can stand tall as people, rather than being looked down upon.

"Xiao Yang, how’s the situation?" Professor He asked a woman in protective clothing, then suddenly remembered something and added, "Oh, these are your junior classmates."

"Hello, Senior Sister," Lin Tian and the others greeted.

Senior Sister Yang nodded, then said to Professor He, "Professor He, we’ve observed for a day, and the biological samples still show no reaction."

"Have you simulated the living environment?" Professor He asked.

Senior Sister Yang answered very confidently, "We’ve already simulated the underground environment, changed the light intensity, air humidity, temperature, and even the oxygen and carbon dioxide content, but the biological samples showed no reaction whatsoever, even when we used microcurrent stimulation; still ineffective. I suspect their dormancy is irreversible."

"Senior Sister Yang, have you tried simulating the environment of corpse decay?" Lin Tian suddenly interjected.

This startled the senior sister, and she looked at Professor He in some confusion because Lin Tian’s words, spoken with a scientific attitude, were rather horrifying in content.

However, Professor He did not immediately explain but rather contemplated for a moment, then said, "Try as Lin Tian suggested."

"Alright." Senior Sister Yang did not question it, but as she turned to prepare, she glanced at Lin Tian due to the profound impression his words made on her.

About ten minutes later, Senior Sister Yang turned back and said, "Professor He, everything is ready. We can start anytime."

Professor He led Lin Tian and the others over, personally inspected the equipment, then nodded, "We can begin." Senior Sister Yang began operations on the computer.

"Temperature: twenty-five to thirty-five degrees..."

"Humidity: forty percent... forty-five, fifty..."

"Oxygen separation, concentration: twenty-one percent... nineteen... fifteen..."

"Carbon dioxide injection, zero point three percent... one percent... two percent..."

...

With Senior Sister Yang’s operations, the computer reported the changes inside the biological sample’s sealed chamber. Although the main part of the equipment was sealed, the surroundings and lid were made of special glass, so Lin Tian and the others could see the biological samples inside.

It was a black insect, not one of the hair-like tiny bugs flying out of crevices, but the kind found in a webbed passage. About the size of a grain of rice, completely black, it was clearly visible when magnified on the display screen, with six legs and hooks. Most bizarrely, the insect had two mouths.

One was mosquito-like, for blood-sucking, shaped like a needle; below it, there was a pair of sharp mandibles. An insect growing this way clearly wasn’t benign at all.

The sharp mandibles could tear prey, and the mouthparts could suck blood, full of aggression. Lin Tian was perplexed as to why they didn’t attack humans in the webbed passage; could it be due to his presence?

"Professor He, the environment simulation is complete," Senior Sister Yang reported.

"Let me have a look." Professor He nodded, stepped forward, and observed the insect through the observation lens.

After five whole minutes, Professor He stood up with a somewhat disappointed expression: "No movement, I’m afraid there are factors we haven’t grasped yet."

After speaking, Professor He fell into deep thought, clearly pondering the factors he mentioned having overlooked. Lin Tian and the others also saw on the big screen that the insect was still lying motionless, as if it were truly dead.

"Lin Tian, what should we do?" Xiao Manxuan asked Lin Tian instead of the more professional Senior Sister Yang or the extraordinarily professional Professor He, as if there was nothing Lin Tian couldn’t solve.

Lin Tian frowned, thought for a long time, and suddenly said, "Senior Sister Yang, does the lab have any blood samples? Um, like those that have been discarded."

"We do have some, but what do you intend to do with them? Every discarded experimental sample in the lab has a disposal process, and cannot be used haphazardly," Senior Sister Yang asked, puzzled. Not just her, even Professor He found it strange.

"I suggest vaporizing the blood samples and injecting them into the sealed chamber," Lin Tian stated directly.

Professor He showed an interested expression and pursued, "Xiao Tian, your reasoning."

Lin Tian pondered for a moment and then said, "It’s like this, I noticed the insect has mouthparts; in insect-type organisms, such mouthparts are either used for sucking animal blood or drawing nutrients from plant liquids. And under the mouthparts, there are mandibles, which clearly aren’t those of a vegetarian, so it is very likely to be a carnivorous insect."

"Eating is the instinct that maintains a living creature, and if we stimulate it with blood, we may ignite its instincts and reactivate it." Lin Tian thoroughly explained.

Professor He listened intently, his eyes getting brighter, and finally clapped his hands, exclaiming, "Xiao Tian, I have to say, your idea has such Spiritual Energy, this kind of divergent thinking is excellent. You seem not like a bookish top student, but rather someone with an agile mind and good talent."

Senior Sister Yang, being astute, didn’t need further instructions from Professor He and had already gone to retrieve the blood samples, quickly returning with a glass test tube in hand.

"Professor He, this is the sheep blood leftover from the last experiment; I’m not sure if it’s usable?" Senior Sister Yang asked.

"It’s usable." Professor He immediately instructed her to add the blood into the sealed chamber.

Senior Sister Yang placed the blood into the equipment, causing a faint buzzing sound, then everyone saw a subtle blood-colored gas dispersing inside the sealed glass cover.

A test tube of blood doesn’t amount to much, and after vaporization, it isn’t noticeable in the sealed chamber, but upon careful observation, one can still see a faint mist of color. Everyone kept a close watch on the insect for its reaction.

However, Lin Tian was having a different thought; his suggestion to Professor He to use blood mist wasn’t because of what he said earlier about igniting feeding instincts. Instead, he wanted to verify whether these insects were really related to zombies.

If there is a connection, it can be certain that the source of influence on these insects is Jiang Chen. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

A few minutes went by, and Senior Sister Yang shook her head in disappointment: "No reaction..."

It shouldn’t be like this, my deduction should be correct, but why isn’t the insect reacting? Could it be influenced not by Jiang Chen, but truly just ordinary insects? Lin Tian slightly furrowed his brow, his mind racing with thoughts.

Or perhaps animal blood isn’t suitable and only human blood can be used? Lin Tian thought of another possibility.

But he knew Professor He certainly wouldn’t allow the use of human blood; it’s a rule of the experiment involving ethical considerations.

Just as everyone felt disappointed and was about to wrap up the lab, one insect on the screen suddenly moved—one of its legs twitched, although subtly, it was caught clearly by the ultra-high-definition camera, magnified several times on the screen.
